Two years before, the lovely redhead Claudia enjoyed a wild sexual vacation of kinky and submissive sex, surrendering body and soul to the dominant Sam. But that was just a vacation, wasn't it? Now Sam Pender is back in Claudia's life and he expects the same kind of sexual surrender he enjoyed with her before.
As a hard-nosed Private Investigator, running her own business, Claudia hasn't had time for men since that memorable holiday. But with Sam back, she's reminded of the kinky sex that thrilled her. Once she'd bound, gagged and forced to submit, she can stop being Claudia Cole, respected businesswoman, and turn into the lusty, horny, kinky submissive 'Red'. All it takes is her surrender. Even so, she fights her desires for submission. Does she really want this relationship to stick?
When Sam is abruptly called away on an urgent business matter, Claudia's suddenly lonely, sad and angry, afraid that she'll never see him again. Although she does get her chance. An unexpected call from Sam has her putting her own business aside and traveling across the country to solve a sticky mystery that requires her professional expertise. Intrigue, danger and shady characters stir a twisted plot Claudia is hired two solve, while at the same time, she tries to resolve the battle with the kinky sexuality she both needs and fights.
I was a bit nervous reading a book predominately about a woman written by a man. But to his credit SJ Lewis did a cracking job of capturing her "voice" Totally believable.
I thought this book was going to be quite risque-but it is not heavy BDSM even though Claudia likes to be bound/gagged and foreceably taken. Her "Dom" submits to her requests with much care and love.
This turned out to be a detective story with large smatterings of well written smexy sex scenes. Claudia is quite taken aback and turned on when she first see herself in a mirror- bound and gagged and just about to have some rough sex.
The detective part of the story concerns a friend of her lover and she has to travel out of her comfort zone to investigate.
I gave this 3 stars, but 3.5 would be better. I only give a book 4 or 5 stars if I am going to re-read and even though I enjoyed this book I probably would not re-read BUT I will be reading more of SJ's work.
Not nearly as good as the first book with these characters but still a pretty good read overall. In this case, the book couldn't tell what it wanted to be, a mystery, an erotic or a thriller? It kept flipping between the three, and even at the end, it wasn't very clear what had been read We pick up immediately where vacation left off, and if you didn't read it, then you can easily follow this book, but I recommend you do read it, because it is a much better story. Sam is in town, Claudia is on semi-vacation, and they are hanging out and playing together. It isn't that exciting, but it does allow for the emotional growth between the two. Sam has to leave, he has his own business and life across the country, and Claudia is distraught, but carries on and won't change her stance, she needs to stay with her business. Fates intervene and she ends up working close to Sam, due to his string pulling, and choices have to be made on where this is going, which we get at the very end. There is a whole plot and mystery going on, but it isn't all that exciting, except how it affects Sam and Claudia Much like Vacation, the book is split in half, but unlike it, the first half is not very exciting, but like it, the second half is interesting, but is used to give us a reason for these two to be together If this had of been more focused on Sam and Claudia, and more interesting when it did, it would have been much better. These are two very interesting characters and they deserved a good story
Claudia is back with Sam visiting her. This second installment is a lovely continuation. Claudia's detective business is doing well. What isn't doing well is her private life. She has none. With Sam Pender's return, her libido wakes up and yells, "Hello!" Sam brings Claudia to her knees immediately. It's hot. His smexy BD and D/s is right up my alley. I'm happily humming along as Claudia is screaming out in ecstasy.
This story is more than about the two finding their sexual release. Sam needs Claudia's professional help. He needs her to help figure out what happened to a good friend of his. Unfortunately, this is in a state far away from Claudia. Through some manipulation, Claudia ends up using her detective skills to solve the mystery.
This however doesn't solve the situation between Sam and Claudia. It's obvious they are supposed to be together. The story ends in an unresolved manner which is why this story only gets a 3.5 star from me. There is no "Casa Blanca" ending. There is no happily ever after. We are strung out in limbo. This is frustrating for me since I like closure, be it sad or happy. I'm really hoping this isn't the end for Sam and Claudia. I find both of them fun and likeable. I want a happily ever after for them. Based on how Mr. Lewis wrote it, I'm not seeing how this can happen. This book is recommended for kinky readers who enjoy BD and a bit of D/s with their suspense.
Well, I'm now officially a fan of S.J Lewis. I really, really like his voice when it comes to touching the subject of darker fantasies, and the rough but scorching sex scenes. I'd have loved a better ending though. For a moment, I wasn't sure if my version was missing a page at the end! I'm hoping to hear more from Sam and Red.
I really liked this book, but as it has some serious issues I can't, with a good conscience give it more than three well deserved stars.
It took me a while to get into the book, in part because the opening is a bit schizophrenic when it comes to the genre. It changes from an erotic to a suspense novel to a relationship drama and back again. My kindle version also has poor formatting, which has no visual indication when the third person omnipotent perspective moves between the two main characters or when hours of time passes. When my initial discomfort with the realm of this book had passed the story quickly grew on me, with an everyday, almost mundane language which creates a comfortable environment for the the growing intimacy between Claudia and Sam. The different parts of the story also merged more and more the further into the book I got, even if they don't fully blend together. I love the fact that the rekindled affection between them doesn't take on the usual gentle and caring sexual nature, but rather combusts in carnal, animalistic and rough sex. The tender moments in between are there as well, with the small talk and caring caresses but when things heats up it gets scorching. Flickered memories speak of a past between them, but it's never fully revealed, which whispers a hint of more to come towards the ending of the book.
