A wonderful new preschool series by Julie Andrews Edwards and Emma Walton Hamilton begins with this charming story about Dumpy, a dump truck that every child will want to take home.
Dame Julie Elizabeth Andrews Edwards, DBE is an award-winning English actress, singer, author and cultural icon. She is the recipient of Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy, BAFTA, People's Choice Award, Theatre World Award, Screen Actors Guild and Academy Award honours. Andrews rose to prominence after starring in Broadway musicals such as My Fair Lady and Camelot, as well as musical films like Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965).
Charlie and his grandfather decide to fix their dump truck, Dumpy, rather than getting rid of him. In like new shape, Dumpy becomes a valuable part of the farm. This is a lovely story about the value of fixing things and putting work into something.
I sought this book out after it was featured on the podcast "Julie's Library" with Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton.
On a farm near a little village there was a very old dump truck overgrown in weeds. Charlie urges his grandfather to not get rid of Dumpy the dump truck because he likes to play on it. Dumpy was a good truck in its day, so the grandfather decides to try to save it. Very nice story with a satisfying ending and enjoyable illustrations.
My three-year-old LOVES this book. However, that being said, it is not my most favorite book to read. THe pictures aren't my favorite and it is a little long to read over and over. But, I always give 4 stars to any books that Collin wants to read a zillion times a day.
And I shall dub this the Dumpy origins book. My nephew will enjoy it. Actually I think my tinkering niece will enjoy it as well. Once again focused on reaping the non monetary rewards of hard work and effort.
