You know how the saying goes? “Never judge the book by its cover?” Well, in this case it’s more than true. The cover is a very good marketing strategy (Susan, unfortunately you were right). This happens to be the second book I purchased this year based solely on the cover (well, the blurb sounded good, too), and they both left me disappointed.
I don’t want to be unfair. It was a good story, well-structured with equal amounts of action, drama, and steam, but it was the narrative style – also affecting the pacing – that did me in. It started very slow, with world-building and character establishing, then…The term “spasmodic” comes to mind, “hiccupping” would be next. The story didn’t run smoothly, didn’t flow (naturally), and it severely diminished my enjoyment.
Yes, I liked the premise, yes, I liked the characters (for once the heroine wasn’t annoying…much), I simply loved Daniel, the chemistry was good, the action (when it happened) was great, the world-building was good…I simply didn’t like the style in which it was all presented, and I truly struggled to get to the end.
But I (still) do like the cover. ;)

La verdad es que empece este libro pensando que seria parecido a la saga Hornet de Tonya Burrows, nada mas lejos de la realidad.
Desde el principio me senti extrañada por como comenzo la historia pero aun asi no queria abandonarlo sin darle una oportunidad y leer un par de capitulos mas.
Creo que llegue hasta el capitulo 7 y la trama no mejoro, por lo que decidi dejarlo. Simplemente no es un libro para mi.

Ok, now I think I understand why I'm having such a hard time with this series. It looks as though there is a Federation Chronicles series, which Phantom Corps is a spin-off of? I read and kinda enjoyed Undercover (FC#1). I liked Relentless (FC#2). And Insatiable is FC#3 - also enjoyed it. Insatiable is also PC#1. I couldn't get into Mesmerized (PC#2) and have yet to try Captivated (PC#3). I read these all out of order, so this was hella confusing.
So, let's talk about Insatiable.
First, let me say that I thought it was a romantic suspense and it sooo wasn't. However, it was a lovely romance. There was none of that "denial of emotions" between Daniel and Carina. They really, reeeally loved each other and accepted it, embraced it, and fought for it.
There was very little action. Most of this book was a) backstory of the Federation v. Imperialists; b) Carina & Daniel fawning all over each other; and c) SEX!
The backstory was somewhat neccessary, but it didn't really add to the story here. I could have done with a lot less since this apparently isn't about any of that and really only focuses on the romance. And since most readers will probably read these novels in the correct order, the backstory wouldn't be at all necessary because the information has already been shared throughout the previous books. At the same time, I personally needed some of that information.
Carina and Daniel fawning all over each other was one of the sweetest romances I've read recently. Daniel was a wonderful hero - he took care of Carina, even when she didn't feel she needed it (but usually did). He went from defender to caretaker to lover with ease and realism. His worries about his future with Carina were understandable, but they didn't take up too much page-time. Carina was fierce! I mean, she wasn't kicking ass left and right or anything, but she held her own and took care of business the best she could. I loved how she was like "Daniel is gonna marry me, even if he doesn't know it yet. He's mine." ... but totally not in a psycho-stalker way or anything. =)
The sex was steamy, as expected. But it was also FUN. The way Daniel and Carina laughed in bed was a nice change from the intense, headboard-rocking fuckathon I see in most erotica. It was touching, loving, relaxed, and... for lack of a better word, realistic. Ain't nothin' wrong with laughing in bed.
My complaints. You know I got 'em, so let's have 'em.
#1. Since I was under the impression that this was a romantic suspense, I was expecting there to actually be some threat to Carina. With her being the key to winning the war and all that. Nope. One threat was eliminated off-stage, halfway through the book. That threat could have been intense and benefited the book greatly. Unfortunately, this is actually an erotica novel. My mistake. There were numerous threats that could have formed, but they never materialized. The last half of the book was threat-free.
#2. The lack of climax. No, I mean in the storyline, not in the bedroom. There was plenty of that. I'm talking about the end of the freaking book! The big ta-da at the end was actually played by Roman Lyons, the male lead from the previous book! Carina spoke, yes. But it wasn't much. It could have been a very intense moment that I know Lauren Dane is capable of writing. She just...didn't.
#3. The writing. HOLD UP!! I, me, Lyndi, this girl? Complaining about the writing? The girl that throws around extra punctuation like you get bonus points for each use and thinks "syntax" is a fee one pays to be forgiven the sin of premarital sex? Yes. Me, fuckers. There was so much that jumped out at me and I actually tried to remember the page numbers, but I gothigh drunk last night and forgot some. So, here is what I do remember.
#3.a. "Gate"... Lauren Dane has used this word 5 times. 5 times doesn't seem like a lot in 340 pages (though my copy was 177 pages). But it is, because it's used in every single sex scene. Oh, I guess I should mention that this word is only used to refer to the vaginal opening.
He teased around her gate with the head of his cock.
He teased around her gate, pushing in just a small bit and pulling back out.
[...]pushing his cock into her gate, settling all the way in.
Her clit stood up for him as he licked through her pussy, up from her gate.
He smirked down at her as he teased his cock around her gate.
I dunno why she felt the need to use this word each time, but it's not a sexy word. It usually makes me think of a wooden fence with a door in it. But since this book has teleportation portals, it makes me think of a swirling entrance to a wormhole in the middle of space. Oh yeah, tease your cock into that gate, Daniel. Not hot.
#3.b. I'm hiding this in a spoiler because it's dialogue and it's a ways into the story. It's also raunchy.
#3.c. Inconsistency, thy name is Laura Dane.
Daniel nodded, and she threw herself at him. He caught her up in a hug and without any effort, they began to walk again as she clung to him.
“[...]”
She nodded. “[...] I’m so relieved. I’m also heavy.” She squirmed, and he held her in place.
“Watch it,” he said quietly. She didn’t know what he meant until she felt his cock brush against her ass. Ah. He put her down, and she returned to her place against his side, his arm around her shoulders.
Unless Carina's ass is in the front, I don't see how it's possible for her to feel Daniel's cock brush against her ass when she's chest-to-chest with him. It's little things like this that stood out and snagged my attention away from the story.
So... since it's an erotica, I'd say this is a great erotica novel. As somebody that likes a bit more oomph to my eroticas, this is good. It could have been a great romantic suspense, but I felt like the author just didn't want to put the effort into anything other than Daniel and Carina's relationship. While I really enjoyed their relationship, this story could have had a little more oomph and still have been erotica.
I'd recommend it, but I'm probably done with this series for now.

Phew. That’s all I’ve got to say. I think the temperature just rose 10 degrees in here and all I did was read this book.
So, sit right down and let me tell you all about it. *grin*
Daniel Haws is HOT super spy extraordinaire. His latest mission is to rescue a princess from enemy territory and bring her and her cargo back to his side of things. But, last thing Daniel wants to do is have to escort a pampered female through hostile territory. However, an assignment is an order no good soldier can ignore, so travel across enemy lines he does, and protect a girl he must. And, boy is he in for a surprise. For Carina Fardelle is no ordinary princess, and this job will take everything he has. His heart included.
As the daughter of the most hated man in all the Known Universes, she is no stranger to fear, deceit and even murder. Being the daughter of this man also has its perks. She can keep up with the men who are in charge of her well being, change identities as necessary, and even hold her own in a fight. Handy trick, that. But, when her father decides to marry her off to one of his evil pals, Carina and her mother make plans for her escape. Armed with secret bad guy info on a chip embedded in her skin, Carina is ushered across the ‘Verses by a man from the other side, one whom she vows to dislike. (He really is pretty bad towards her in the beginning.)
But, even with all the rude condescension, Carina finds herself rather attracted to the man who shall be her savior. And eventually, like with all good erotic novels, neither Daniel nor Carina can stand the tension any longer, and they end up in bed, together. And what a rousing good time that is y’all. Dane knows what she’s writing about, and she definitely knows how to make a story catch fire. And I’ll be darned if you don’t feel a tiny bit scorched by the end.
One question I did have, that was eventually answered, was how do these people, who have never been there, always know Earth English slang and curses. F-bombs, S-bombs, freak, hand-job, a veritable curse/slang smorgasbord. Am I right? Well, this time, I can explain. This series takes place well into the future, during a time when we’ve apparently figured out the whole space travel thing and have been settled on other planets in other places for quite a long time. And I guess some of the good things just last. So, imagine, hundreds of years from now, we could still be LOLing and O.M.Ging with the best of them.
Or not.
All in all, an exciting, sexy adventure into the future and space.

She did not look at the men in the trees, did not look at the men crouched at the next corner shooting round after round, all set to kill her. They would not harm her; she knew that instinctively. Knew Daniel Haws would kill a thousand men to save her, knew he’d give his life for her. This last bit scared her more than the men trying to kill her. This last bit was a bigger threat than any, because he was her everything, and she would not survive losing him.
So she looked up at Daniel, into his face, and held on to her certainty that no one was better than he.
Spent shells showered around her head, glittering in the sunlight with a sick sort of beauty. The ones that touched her bare skin burned as they bounced, hitting the ground, still smoking. Their metallic ping sounded over and around the other sounds, all chaos. The stench of the powder within the shells hung in the air, stinging her nose, making her eyes water.
His face was stark, a mask of furious, righteous anger, a vengeful angel. Each shot brought the energy rebounding through his upper body, and she watched, fascinated, as it bounced against him over and over, but he never lost his focus.
All around her she heard screams of rage and pain, the percussive thump as bodies hit the ground. The thick, coppery scent of blood mixed with the stench of the spent shells, the acrid wash of fear coating it all.

Carina Fardelle's father, Ciro, holds the position of Supreme Commander of the Imperial Universe. Carina is disgusted by her father who treats her mother like dirt. He has decided to marry her off to an odious man without any care for her feelings. Her mother Esta has lost two sons, one to death, the other to desertion because of her husband and doesn't want Carina to suffer like she does. She has figure out a way for Carina to escape her tyrannical father, and that is to steal very important information and bring it to The Federation.
The Federation Military Corps try to keep the peace and have a close eye on the Imperial territory. Daniel Yaws, the leader of the secret Phantom Corps, will help smuggle Carina out to safety. There is great risk on Daniel's part and he assumes Carina is some fragile, spoiled princess who will barely be able to make the long, dangerous journey. But Daniel is in for a big surprise because Carina is not some weak woman and is more than willing to do whatever it takes to help those in need and to stop power hungry men like her father who kill to get what they want.
Both Daniel and Carina hide in the shadows and wear disguises as they run. Because Daniel has backup and support from many undercover agents, he is able to keep Carina safe. But the close quarters these two share together bring to light their growing attraction, where Carina longs for Daniel to make her his woman. They just have to stay alive in order to have a future together.
Lauren Dane is one of the best authors out there writing exciting, on the edge of your seat science fiction romance. Insatiable delivers that and more, especially with two amazing characters. Daniel is one swoon worthy hero. He may have issues because of his past and the lengths he has to go through in order to succeed, but he lives by a moral code and loves deeply. This is show so perfectly in the way he loves his sister Abbie and his new found love for Carina. Their lovemaking is steamy, but at times fun and joyful because they're both embracing life together that could be taken away from them at a moment's notice. Daniel may seem to have control of the situation at hand with Carina, but that quickly changes. Carina is not some simpering, living in fear female. She takes on a great sacrifice bravely and walks by Daniel's side proudly. And once she claims him for her own, Daniel doesn't stand a chance.
I would say that Insatiable is also a great suspenseful thriller where the chase will leave some readers breathless. Borderline erotic, as well as sensual definitely comes to mind when reading the ways Daniel and Carina love one another. But there is always a deep respect between these two and a yearning for a future that is just out of their reach.
You can't go wrong with Lauren Dane and Insatiable is a perfect example why.

Comentario final: Ella sin mas bien parece super fuerte y frontal por momentos me parece demasiado mandona y tan dulce que me dan caries, como que tanto amor de golpe me cuesta creerlo tanto así, el tiene demasiado paciencia y temple con ella, para ser un hombre tan frío a la hora de matar no me condice con al forma en que le habla a ella, es como que no le discute nada, toma todo tan como viene.
En cuanto al libro en general me pareció un poco complicado en la utilización de términos para los lugares y personas, se me mezclaba mucho todo y el seguir el hilo de la historia, me fue muy largo el viaje, en partes estuve re atrapada y en otras parecía que no terminaban mas las escenas

Third in the Federation Chronicles and first in the Phantom Corps romantic sci-fi series with the couple focus on Daniels Haws and the Princess Carina.
My Take
Omigod. This was so bad. Just… I have to believe Dane either didn't have an editor or they didn't care. It's an interesting enough story with the usual theme of the nasty despot destroying all around him while the brave and glorious good guy is trying to protect it all.
Dane has one of her characters commit suicide, but never explains why. I think he was too embarrassed to be associated with this story.
I get that Carina is, should be, an intelligent woman who stays alert and schemes to remain safe, so why is she such a nincompoop on the trip? Dane tries to insert tension and drama and it only makes me want to stop reading. Or gag. I think Dane got hold of a book on writing fiction and is trying to create that tension, but without dong the work involved in writing to make it tense or dramatic. She's got Carina bouncing from flirty little girl to experienced warrior woman to ignorant, sheltered princess so fast, my eyeballs spun. It just doesn't hold together. Hell, Dane can't even maintain consistency in language.
Christ, woman, do some work to build your characters, give them depth, take the time to build a scene!
Why would the silly bint feel soft toward her father's Skorpios? She knows what they are, how they operate… WTF, I thought she was supposed to be smart?
Dane has Carina falling for Daniel immediately. Well, thank god Dane is telling us because the storyline certainly isn't building up to it. Dane just whips it on out there like it's part of the outline...oops...it is part of the outline. Why bother to take the time to make this believable. Dane wrote the words and so it must be. Gag. Dane has Carina offended pretty much every time Daniel opens his mouth. Again, she's 'sposed to be smart?? Why not assume he's good at his job and LISTEN. Daniel has w-a-a-a-a-a-a-y more patience that I do. Carina does at least have a practical appreciation for what Daniel does.
Dane keeps having Carina pull stupid stunts as though this will build her up in our eyes as being a strong character and create tension. Yup, it was tense...unbearably tense as I kept hoping the stupid twit would get caught!
Then there's the short bit of requisite whining---good thing we got that out of the way. Make up your mind, Dane, either Carina is really strong or she's stupid.
Please, pick up a dictionary. Use your words properly. It can only help.
How does the Imperium know she's with Daniel? Why don't we ever get a point of view from the other side? Oh, duh, I forgot...Dane would have to work.
What danger exists on this escape? Dane says it...a lot...but only shows us a couple scenes.
On what basis is Carina making judgments about men? Her "vast experience" of her father, brothers, her father's ministers? The Skorpios shock troops?
One of the few believable things in this story is how long it's taking to get Carina back to the Federation. To my regret.
Christ, Dane makes Carina---the virgin---sound like she's pleasured the garrison, "Oh, I've never done that." No shit.
Dane has all these tragedies happening and we learn nothing. Wait, forget I said anything. If Dane had expanded this story, made us more sympathetic to the horrors occurring everywhere, bringing us deeper into the storyline---I would have had to read more of her crappy writing! Eeek!
Dane's bit about Leal and her torture and death is poorly done. The timing of the insert had me reading it over and over trying to figure it out. Just another example of how Dane could have enriched this story.

The Characters
Daniel Haws is a nobody who worked his way up in the service. Where he now leads the Phantom Corps and is Wilhelm's right hand man. He's one of their best, an assassin working for good. Hating those who betray their own people. Daniel's parents are Mai who owns a bakery and is only alive today because Daniel forced their father to move them out of the desert. His dad's a jerk. He used to love their mother but fools around all the time and ignores them. Georges, his brother, is finding his place in politics. Nyna is his sister, married to Marcus, and running a café. Andrei is Daniel's partner, a fellow operative.
Ciro Fardelle is the bad guy, the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Universe, leads (if you can call it that) the Imperium. Esta is Ciro Fardelle's first wife. She was set aside when her sons didn't pan out as Ciro expected. His second wife has presented him with a son, but I suspect she hates him. He's using his daughter, Carina, as a bargaining chip. Hartley Alem is one of Ciro's ministers and a nasty pervert. Vincenz is Carina's older brother and he ran away. Petrus is her younger brother who died quickly after a terrible disease. YaYa was their paternal grandmother. The one who disappeared shortly after she helped Vincenz escape.
House Lyons is the reigning House in the Federation and is headed up by Roman Lyons. A man who himself "betrayed" the tenets of his class to marry Daniel's sister, the newly pregnant Abbie. A barrister who terrifies all the men in her life. Alexander Lyons is Roman's very flirtatious brother. Deimos is Roman's oldest son and heir.
Commandant Wilhelm Ellis is Roman's top military man (I think he's actually the spymaster, but, hey, I'm just the reader). Mercy is Roman's house manager. She raised his sons when his wife died and has been with him forever.
The Cover
The cover is soft browns and grays with Daniel's well-muscled torso on display as he leans against that concrete wall. I'd've thought this was a contemporary romance and not a sci-fi piece based on this cover...
The title is all about Daniel's Insatiable need for Corina.

This picks up where the first 2 left off (the Federation against the Imperialists). This was Daniel's story (Abbie's brother). Daniel is a top operative in the Phantom Corp, a group who goes undercover wherever they need to go. They rescue, assassinate, gather information. The goal is to prevent a war with the Imperialists.
Daniel's latest job is to rescue Carina, the daughter of Ciro Fardelle. Carina has information that will help the Federation. In Carina's world, she has no value except as a pawn to further her father's power. Ciro is after power, at any cost. The citizens of the Imperial empire are scared, if they speak out in any way, they disappear. This happened to Carina's brother Vincenz and her grandmother. It's also revealed, that Carina's other brother was allowed to die as an experiment.
Either way, this had some action, not too detailed (the romance is the primary focus). Carina has been suppressed and knows what she doesn't want. She falls for Daniel quickly and he her. I liked Carina, she's smart and when told to do something by Daniel, she listens. She's also open with her feelings. Luckily there wasn't too much of the "I'm not good enough for her!" bullshit. Carina does get answers about her brother. Daniel is also a great character, he's an alpha without the alpha-holeness.

By the time I closed this book I looked at the cover of INSATIABLE and all I wanted to say was; It’s me, not you, in why I struggled with your story. The fact remains though that I did struggle with this story and the main irritation for me was Carina. The story begins with the separate introduction of Daniel Haws and Carina Fardelle, and at that moment I had no problems. Daniel came through as a skill-honed Phantom Corp warrior who was preparing himself for a dangerous mission and Carina, in her initial situation, showed resilience. A prim and proper royal woman of her Verse but inside she was screaming for what the rules of her Verse were forcing her in to. The beginning promised a story that I could revel in…that was until Daniel and Carina met and I gradually started to dislike Carina more and more.
It wasn’t the body chemistry but the personalities that didn’t mesh for me. Carina’s actions or thoughts were emotive at times to reel me back in but then as fast as she got on my good side she would do or say something that would completely aggravate me. Like telling Daniel he has fluff for brains, or that he is silly, or that he has to stop pouting or shushing him in an argument. Carina probably meant it in a different tone but I just didn’t pick it up that way. Or the moment she was thinking of his butt - and how she had her hands on that butt while he fucked her - in the middle of a dangerous fight. In such a situation I would think your mind would be else wise occupied. She just rubbed me the wrong way but then I thought; Okay Daniel she gives you attitude, show her your ‘in-charge’ attitude and give her something to chew on! I mean, a skill honed and high ranked warrior doesn’t seem like the man who would pout. Instead I got a man who was endeared by her, almost overpowering, persona and that’s where they lost me.
If I would look at Carina through Daniels eyes she is bossy, regal, sassy, hard, smart, serious and innocence wrapped up in a curvaceous package to savor. What he found sexy or sweet I just found plain annoying and I just never gained his perspective. I felt Daniel was a man who had two sides to him. One who is commanding and a deft warrior, and the other side is caring and sexy, but pliable. He is a likable hero but most of the times he couldn’t push my buttons.
So here I was, drawn in and pushed out of the story in rapid succession because yes, there were also good things. It was my struggles however with the main couple that created a domino effect to the romance. I read them falling for each other but I wasn’t feeling the love or drawn in their romance that made my heart beat a bit faster. The kind of romance I know Lauren Dane can deliver for me! This is also an erotic romance and the sexual desires were more naughty of tone then anything else which included some voyeurism, self masturbation and M/F bed play.
The plot was embedded in a chase where their adversary was an evil man doing diabolical deeds who send his Skorpios men for the chase, but these Skorpios were faceless and very much in the background. The enemies’ actions were mentioned more than actually shown and I didn’t get the chills and thrills of; will they make it, or won’t they? It does have some tension filled moments where they find resistance and the only way through it is via a fight. With the last third of the novel focused on the more political aspect of the plot.
Romance and plot might not have blown me away but Lauren Dane has the writing skills that make the Federation/Imperial world come to life. She effortlessly provides information how this culture lives, rules, and how their world works. Not only does the main couple matter, the supportive cast of family, friends a fellow Phantom Corp member’s breath their essence in to this story. I loved the quiet, rock steady Andrei, Wilhelm Ellis mysterious persona who got under my skin since the moment I met him in UNDERCOVER and I was so glad Roman and Abbie got to play a significant role. They flesh out this story, allow the overall plot to become a critical part of the story too, and each of them have their part to play.
With INSATIABLE, Lauren Dane ups the ante with the troubles in the Verses and to add the Phantom Corp to it as a focal point is an intriguing move. It allows many new characters to come in to the picture, joining the strong characters I already met in the previous novels; UNDERCOVER and RELENTLESS. I may have my issues with Daniel and Carina but they still added their own perspective and flavor to the already colorful cast. Daniel loved Carina, and Carina loved Daniel, of that much I was convinced by the end of the story… I’m only bummed I was irked by their personalities rather then excited and couldn’t get swept up in their romance enough to be touched by it.

Carina Fardelle lives day by day in fear of her life. The daughter of the Imperialist leader, Ciro Fardelle. When her father decides the waiting is over and she must marry, he picks a cruel groom. But he makes one mistake, he under estimates is wife and daughter as they make plans to get Carina out of Imperialist territory along with secrets Ciro would rather the Federation never find out about. Born a princess, but never acts like one, Carina falls deeply for the man who has come to rescue her.
Daniel Haws has been given the duty of removing Carina from her home and secreting her back to the Federation where she will deliver secrets that can help them in the war that is coming. Having been born without rank, he protects the Federation at all costs even if he doesn't agree with the politics. Early in life he is adopted into the Phantom Corps, which gave his life direction. He knows he cannot fall for the "package" he is supposed to deliver, but Carina's heart and strength draw him where he knows he shouldn't go.
Besides not liking the hierarchy of the families in these stories, I am rocking these books! The men are hard and capable, and the women are no weak flowers either. With each book we get more understanding of this world that Lauren Dane has created. We know something happened on Earth that forced humanity to find new worlds. But what I am not sure of his how long ago that was or even if Earth is still habitable. That's all beside the point but I do wonder as I am reading the series where they briefly give you glimpses of Earth.
The hero Daniel is a man after my heart. He loves his family to the point where while seeing his sister raped, he broke the law. He took care of the Rank scum hurting his sister and ended up in lock up. This is when Commander Ellis finds him and enlists him into the Phantom Corp he is building. We see that Daniel is the innate leader of this band even if he isn't officially. He takes command and does everything in his power to protect Carina and the people within his command. As the story goes on we see glimpses of his past to help us understand the man he is today. He still is in touch with his family and in fact his sister is Abbie from Relentless. Abbie is now married to Roman Lyons, the leader of the Federation.
Carina was the perfect match to Daniel. While everyone thinks she is a spoiled princess, she has actually spent the last few years living in fear of her life as she watches people close to her disappear or die mysteriously. She has fought to be true to herself while surviving through masks containing her real personality. When she escapes she makes a promise to be nothing but herself. That self was amazing in strength and heart. She was an active member of her escape often giving perspective to Daniel he didn't see.
When their love blossoms, it catches Daniel by surprise. He feels he isn't good enough for her, but she won't take no for an answer. She owns her sexuality and doesn't let her virgin status get in the way of getting what she wants. The love scenes are hot!
This book is everything you are looking for! Suspense, action, love, humor, drama and strength of will to live. Read it!

That's all beside the point but I do wonder as I am reading the series where they briefly give you glimpses of Earth.
The hero Daniel is a man after my heart. He loves his family to the point where while seeing his sister raped, he broke the law. He took care of the Rank scum hurting his sister and ended up in lock up. This is when Commander Ellis finds him and enlists him into the Phantom Corp he is building. We see that Daniel is the innate leader of this band even if he isn't officially. He takes command and does everything in his power to protect Carina and the people within his command. As the story goes on we see glimpses of his past to help us understand the man he is today. He still is in touch with his family and in fact his sister is Abbie from Relentless. Abbie is now married to Roman Lyons, the leader of the Federation.
Carina was the perfect match to Daniel. While everyone thinks she is a spoiled princess, she has actually spent the last few years living in fear of her life as she watches people close to her disappear or die mysteriously. She has fought to be true to herself while surviving through masks containing her real personality. When she escapes she makes a promise to be nothing but herself. That self was amazing in strength and heart. She was an active member of her escape often giving perspective to Daniel he didn't see.
When their love blossoms, it catches Daniel by surprise. He feels he isn't good enough for her, but she won't take no for an answer. She owns her sexuality and doesn't let her virgin status get in the way of getting what she wants. The love scenes are hot!
This book is everything you are looking for! Suspense, action, love, humor, drama and strength of will to live. Read it!

- Al principio el libro comenzó bien, pero luego lo encontré algo tedioso. En general, creo que el libro tenía potencial, pero no había suficiente trama. Hubo dos personajes que me gustaron y de verdad me gustaría leer sus historias, son Vincenz y Andrei.
-Al principio el libro tenía muy buena pinta y la verdad que nunca había leído de ésta temática, pero a medida que iban pasando los capítulos se volvió muy monótono y la trama se perdió. Muchas escenas de erotismo y personajes con muy poca personalidad. Quedaron muchísimos baches sin resolver y parte de la historia que no fue narrada…sólo pequeñas menciones al finalizar. Y digamos que el final dejó muchísimo que desear…

-Fue algo diferente a lo que estoy acostumbrada a leer, hubo momentos en que la lectura fue tranquila, pero pude seguirle el ritmo.

Me gusto que Carina no fuera una chica indefensa, necesitada de ayuda. Por el contrario es fuerte, decidida y valiente, soporto estoicamente cada horror que tuvo que ver para poder llegar a salvo al otro universo. Una guerrera y luchadora por lo que es suyo. Daniel es un hombre duro con un pasado oscuro pero que frente a Carina deja salir su lado amable...Es un libro para entretener...
-Me costo bastante adentrarme en la historia... seguramente porque al ser un spin off al no haber leído los anteriores no estaba familiarizada con los términos. La temática de por si no me atrae mucho. Las escenas eróticas me parecieron demasiado sosas o sera por las preguntas estúpidas (o no) que Carina metía en medio. Me gusto que ella no fuera débil aunque no la soporté cuando le imponía a Daniel lo que tenia que sentir, o por ejemplo decirle que se tenía que casar. Espere muchos mas momentos de verdadera tensión que nunca pasaron. El final me dejo con la boca abierta realmente no podía creer que ahí terminara el libro, creo que falto demasiado.

But Carina wants to finally live, and being with Daniel makes her feel alive. She has learned to take whatever happiness she can, and being with Daniel is worth any cost.
Insatiable is a fantastic futuristic with some very steamy scenes but not as erotic as her first book (Undercover) in the series, or as much as her contemporary books. I enjoyed the transformation from Carina's more timid nature into a strong woman who is confident in her sensuality. Daniel is honorable, although he feels that he isn't. His struggles to do the right thing and keep his hands off of Carina were the funniest passages to read! (Especially because Carina was purposely tempting him!) I couldn't wait for them to finally get together.
The secondary characters really made this book, and they added a rich fullness. I hope the author continues this series past 3 books. I particularly was intrigued by Carina's self sacrificing mother. She was my favorite character and I hope she is still alive since her future seemed very tenuous after Carina escaped. I would very much like her to have a happy ending. (Especially since she was bound to Carina’s cruel father from such a tender age.) I would also love to know what happened to Carina’s relatives and the small resistance group on their planet and hope some of these gaps will be revealed in future books?!
This book is sure to please readers who love fantasy, adventure and sizzling romance.

I LOVED this book. I think Lauren Dane's futuristic world is the best created society I've ever read about in romance. She has really thought through the politics, the hierarchy of social ranking, and the technology of the world she's made come alive, and I've become more and more intrigued as I'm introduced to a truly unique alternate universe: this is not just a case of an author basically writing a contemporary novel and just adding flying spaceships in an effort to call it sci-fi.
The other aspect, of course, is the romance. I fell in love with Daniel and Carina. He is a military agent and enforcer for the secret Phantom Corps; she is the princess of the Federation's growing enemy, the Imperialists. And he is tasked with bringing her safely out of the growing unrest in her 'Verse, where she's decided to turn against her evil father, to the protection of the Federation. From the beginning there's a pull between him and her as they travel together. I love a plot when the hero and heroine are stranded together, united against the enemy, which is the situation in the greater part of this book. Their chemistry is very palpable and real, from the beginning. And theirs is a relationship that is lovely to watch unfolding - every single scene of them together brought joy and a smile. It was amazing to watch Daniel's protectiveness of Carina, and she was a really spunky woman who was sheltered but capable, innocent but sure of what she wanted. Their relationship together was so natural, so comfortable that at times it almost felt too easy, but I still loved it. Also, the love scenes are plentiful and sexy, made better by the fact that I really felt the connection between these characters. My only other small issue was I felt a stronger interest from the heroine than I did the hero toward the relationship. I was confident that Daniel loved her, but his general hesitancy to express this compared to her outright boldness was too marked a contrast sometimes.
The books in this series keep getting better and better. This one clearly sets up for the next, when the full-out war between the Federation and the Imperialists is sure to erupt in full force. The romance is still front and center, though, and with couples that also keep getting stronger, this is exactly how a series set in this genre should be.

It's more a 3.5 Stars. I really wanted to love this book. I've enjoyed the other books in this series and I was sooo looking forward to reading this one just by looking at the cover. This has to be one of the hottest covers ever!
I enjoyed the story enough, it was a good plot, but there wasn't enough action. The heroine, Carina, was a bit immature and childish to my liking at times, not enough that I would consider her annoying, but she came across as very needy. One good thing about her was that she knew when to listen and let Daniel do his job, instead of being the I-can-take-care-of-myself female that sooo annoys me.
Going back to the lack of action, it seemed that they didn't have to face too many problems getting out of the Imperial 'Verses, which means either Daniel and Andrei were just that good or the bad people just suck! LOL But that was ok.
I really liked Daniel as a character, his story, where he came from, his relationship with his family, a really sweet guy behind the tough exterior. Carina I didn't really connect with. I kept hoping she would grow on me so I would see her as more deserving of Daniel, but in the end I guess I'm happy with them being together, she'll be good for him and will balance him out. There was just something missing that I can't quite put my finger on.
The secondary characters I'm intrigued by. Andrei, Vincenz, Alex, and I really didn't see the need to kill Marame. I was rooting for her and Vincenz to end up together :(
I am looking forward to the next book to see where the war between the Federation and Imperial 'Verses will end.

When I began reading this book I was afraid it would be a two star book. I was going to DNF this book because, damnit, I paid too much for this trade copy! Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. The heroine did not make any Too Stupid to Live decisions. When Daniel tells Carina to "Get Down!" she listens. She doesn't endanger him with stupid heroic antics when the bullets are flying. Carina shares her feelings right away. There are no Big Misunderstandings, Cruel to Be Kind Push Away scenes, nor Sex at Inappropriate Times.
I dont' know why this is labeled as an erotic novel. Insatiable does have heat. Words like There's nothing kinky,
Daniel's feelings developed quickly and felt cheesy, at first. I got over it. Daniel and Carina had a sweet romance. The suspense left something to be desired. After all the danger the Phantom Corps went through to retrieve Carina and loss of life nothing really came of it...in this book. The world building was below average. Of course, I didn't purchase this for the science fiction, but I expected a little more effort in this futuristis interplanet "saga." Overall, I give this book a C+. I really liked Carina.

What is going on? The third in this series is the worse one I've read so far. I just couldn't get into Carina. I did like Daniel as I admired him from afar in the previous book. I couldn't care less about Carina. Yes, she has a crazy father and she did her best to stand up to him and then escape him to help his enemy. But she just didn't pull me in like Sera or Abby. I hope the next book with Andrei in it doesn't suck. I had high hopes for this series as I like the war conflict and I really like the world she created. I recommend it for those who want to learn more about this war between the Federation and the Imperialist.

Enjoyed this one a lot. It's classified as book 3 in the Federation series and book 1 in the Phantom Corps. I was hoping it would lean more towards a book 1 and it did take a while to pick up what certain things said meant, and the places, etc. But this story felt very heavy on the relationships and that's what I most loved about it. Lauren Dane writes relationships, both romantic and family so well.

Finally! I thought I'd never finish! Nothing about this book worked for me. I thought I would step outside my comfort zone, won't do that again for awhile. I usually love Lauren Dane's work but not this series.

Besides not liking the hierarchy of the families in these stories, I am rocking these books! The men are hard and capable, and the women are no weak flowers either. With each book we get more understanding of this world that Lauren Dane has created. We know something happened on Earth that forced humanity to find new worlds. But what I am not sure of his how long ago that was or even if Earth is still habitable. Things are heating up between the Federation and the Imperialists and stuff is brewing on The Edge. When Carina Fardelle has to defect to Federation territory with crucial Intel about her father's plans, Daniel, leader of the Phantom Corps, is to head-up the extraction mission.
Daniel is part of an elite team of assassins called Phantom Corps. Recently promoted to leader of the Corps the responsibility that rests on his shoulders is significant. Daniel is an impatient man, which I found a rare trait for an assassin. He is also honorable, intense, capable and protective. I adored Daniel in RELENTLESS because of the way he was open in showing his care for his sister Abbie and his sense of humor. And then the opening scene of INSATIABLE showed undeniably how hard and ruthless Daniel can be when you hurt the ones he loves and I fell even harder for him.
Carina Fardelle is the only daughter of an Imperialist hotshot, the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Universes. She has mastered to perfection the art of pretending to be who she's not and yearns to shed her assumed persona and be the person she truly is, openly and without fear for her life. Carina was a complex character for me. Inside she’s observant, alert, tired of scheming to protect herself, but also feisty and quick-witted and on the outside she’s a spoiled, arrogant, confident, cool and regal princess.
From the moment Daniel and Carina meet and their joint journey starts I was mesmerized by their story and Lauren Dane allowed me to accompany them on their journey. Both Daniel and Carina are characters who complement each other and slowly open up to each other and get more comfortable with one another. As with UNDERCOVER and RELENTLESS the theme of star-crossed lovers, for whom a relationship is made difficult by social standings and differences, runs strong and I loved that. I liked Daniel a lot as a hero. The contradiction of his harsh profession and his caring nature and his gentleness with Carina struck a cord with me. I thought he was perfect for her, putting her on her place when needed but never denying her the freedom to be herself.
Though I really liked Carina as a character, it was also a bit hard for me to get a grip on her true personality because to me she seemed a bit whimsical. I loved her strength and resilience and her empathic and compassionate character despite her background. But she would be strong, smart, sensible and giving Daniel a run for his money one moment and tentative, insecure the next. At times she'd be stubbornly unwilling to listen to what Daniel and the others are telling her for her own good and reminded me of a spoiled child, pouting and stomping her foot to get her way. And then, within a few pages she'd realize her behavior was childish and she'd get a grip and act more mature again. This, for me, is what kept her likeable and away from venturing into selfish.
Because I read RELENTLESS not too long ago, I was very pleased to Abbie and Roman make an appearance in INSATIABLE. Of course, Abbie being Daniel’s sister this was a given but still I really liked the roles both Roman and Abbie played in this book and in this story. Lauren Dane also possesses the talent to have quite an extensive cast of secondary characters in this series and still keep it clear and never giving the reader a feeling the book is too crowded. I think it’s the combination of familiar characters which were introduced in earlier books and some enticing new ones that most definitely are intriguing fodder for future installments in the series, that make the presence of quite a few secondary characters one of the strong points in this series.
In this series Lauren Dane set the bar high with the ménage in UNDERCOVER and a dirty talking hero in RELENTLESS and the self-pleasuring scene which was the first sex scene in INSATIABLE, kept that bar set high as it was followed by some utterly hot and erotic scenes when Daniel and Carina finally gave in to the powerful attraction between them. And though Lauren Dane remains the queen of sizzling, raw, explicit sex scenes in my opinion INSATIABLE doesn't reach the scorching heights of either UNDERCOVER or RELENTLESS in this aspect. Can't give an exact founded reason for it. Maybe it's Carina being a virgin and Daniel's tentative sexual approach of her, always concerned about hurting her and thinking for her and therefore not going full-on and all-out with her. I do know it just felt a bit tamer than the two previous books in this series and hope those scorching, spine tingling scenes will be back in the next installment.
My last little point of comparative criticism is that I missed the fast-paced action I did get in UNDERCOVER (covert op) and RELENTLESS (political stuff). Despite Daniel being an assassin, halfway through there were only two scenes (one of them the opening scene) that were memorable. This, for me took away from the pace and the story moving forward and slowed it a bit. It wasn’t until the last few chapters that the plot action picked up and really hooked me for the next installment of the Federation Chronicles/Phantom Corps series.
Lauren Dane's amazing skill in pairing characters and her ability to write sizzling erotic scenes are enough for me to adore this series and the overall plot arc subtly set-up and laced through the books was luckily redeemed in the last pages of INSATIABLE, something I wasn't too sure of in the middle part of the book.

When I saw the cover and read the back, I thought this is my kind of book. Although it mentioned Imperial and Federation forces, I thought they were just existing or ones I hadn't heard of military units.
The book basically takes place in the future, where you can travel through portals to other worlds and some things said "came from Earth."
This was a good read but I'm not a sci-fi reader. I might read some of the other books as I'd like to see if they have stories about them.

Daniel and Carina
So. Loved this one!!!!! Daniel is so much more than we suspected. He is amazing. Carina is in much danger. Daniel shows up at the last minute with a plan. Its a harsh and desperate run back to Ravena. Carina is funny. Strong. She does not let Daniel hide or push her away. War is coming. Love this serues.

It held my interest for about 50% then I just started zoning out and skimming. Had to force myself to focus. Pity coz I rated the earlier book really high. The love story just didnt sit with me , like after a while I was just so done and bored with Carina.
