This third book is my favorite of the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series! Noah and Jack were kids in the first two books and had some unfortunate altercations. Now they're all grown up and Noah has changed so much that most don't recognize him, including Jack. They had such good chemistry and the humor was great! It's one that I like to re-read my favorite parts ;) Recommend to fans of Mary Connealy and Karen Witemeyer.

The third book in the “Texas Boardinghouse Brides” series, “Finally A Bride” was entertaining, exciting, and filled with just the right balance of romance. This third installment follows the stories of Carly, Jack (Jacqueline), Garrett, and Noah (AKA – Butch Laird) as well as continuing to give you a peek into the town life of Lookout, Texas.

I was always curious, ever since book one, about exactly what happened to Carly after her identity was discovered and she was shipped off to jail. I loved reading about how God had transformed her life and how she had begun to live for Him. It was interesting seeing the dynamics between her and the town. Just like in real life, she had people that couldn't look beyond her past mistakes and people who judged her without actually knowing her. The fact that she relied on God and drew on His love for her was inspiring.

Jack's story was intriguing and fun as always. I loved seeing how she had grown up into a young woman and yet, was still struggling with some of the things she had problems with as a child. She was the same Jack, but more grown up and a bit more mature. When the book opened and we followed her as she climbed a roof to get a good story scoop for the newspaper, I felt like I hadn't even left the story world. Jack was up to her old ways and nothing had changed.

Noah, or rather, Butch Laird, was the one character I was most excited to see back. I was so sad in book two when he and his father had to leave town. I was just starting to like him. The fact that he had accepted Christ and changed his ways by this book was heartwarming. He had grown up to be such a good man. I was rooting for him and Jack the whole way! The romance was sweet but no over the top and also, there was only one place where I felt a little uncomfortable with the romantic intensity and description.

For any younger girls, the only thing I would warn about is that there was a rather descriptive section concerning childbirth. I know for me, when I was younger, I found reading things like that a bit embarrassing and uncomfortable so, just keep that in mind. For the most part, if anyone wanted to skip that part, they wouldn't be missing too much.

The one thing I didn't like about this book was just that the stuff with the railroad and all the mystery surrounding it (which I won't give away since that's a bit of a plot twist) wasn't exactly resolved. Certain things were going to change in town because of the railroad coming and unfortunately, only some of those things were answered. You saw what Garrett, Luke, and Rachel were going to end up doing to make a living but at the same time, it all still felt a bit obscure. I would have liked to see how their lives changed because of it and also, how they did after it came. It wasn't that the story was left unfinished exactly so much as, I felt like there was just more that could have been shared. I wondered if Garrett and Luke would actually like their new line of business and be able to make it work. I wondered what Jack planned to do with her time after she and Noah got married. I wished I could see if Billy had mended his ways later on or if he kept going down the dark road he was already on. I also wanted to see what happened to Jack's two friends. Did the girls ever find guys of their own? What about Jack's siblings? Did Alan actually become a marshal like his pa? And what ever became of Ricky and Jonesy, the two boys that Jack was friends with as a little girl? I was just wishing for more.

If you have all these type of questions after reading a book, where you just want to know more about the characters, odds are, it's a sign that the book was really good. I know that's how I felt. It was nice seeing all my questions about the main characters answered. There wasn't a mail-order bride forgotten nor a single main character left out. The series felt like it ended in just the right place, answering all the main questions we had while still leaving plenty for our own imagining. The best series always leave you wanting more and I think Vickie McDonough definitely succeeded in that area.

I especially loved the message of forgiveness in this series. Throughout the three books, characters were having to forgive the wrong choices others were making. It really, I felt, helped the characters grow both in faith and as individuals. There was never a time where I didn't have someone to root for.

Also, as an extra note: I've read many mail-order bride themed books but this was the first series in a while where I felt that I couldn't predict everything that was going to happen. Vickie McDonough gave me everything I expected but put such a fresh spin on it that none of it felt the same. Especially book three, I would say. Who marries their childhood bully? It was awesome!

I have thoroughly enjoyed Vickie McDonough's Boardinghouse Brides series, and this final installment was by far my favorite. Jaqueline "Jack" Davis has been the highlight of each book with her rambunctious, tomboy ways. What a treat to see her all grown up with that rambuctious streak only slightly dimmed. She still finds scrapes to get into and conclusions to jump to, but this time there's a handsome man to catch her when she falls.

Noah Jeffers is a hero with a heart for God and a past to atone for. He stole my heart from the beginning with his vulnerability and determination to set things right no matter how uncomfortable returning to his home town became.

Cameo appearances by the other Boardinghouse Brides made for a delightful feeling of coming home. And hooray that big-hearted Rand Kessler finally finds the woman meant for him. And Carly and Garrett's love story, while secondary to Jack and Noah, was no less enjoyable.

Town secrets, suspicious robberies, and even a case of murder add spice and drama to this warm-hearted story. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy fun, historical romance. If you haven't read the other books in the series, don't let that stop you. This book stands alone and takes place ten years after the previous book, so it is easy to follow without the others.

I only read this book at work, so it took me a bit to finish it, however, I found it to be an enjoyable read overall. This western romance was engaging enough to keep me turning the pages, and I realized only afterward that I’d accidentally started with the third book in the series! I’ll definitely go back and read books one and two, as I’m curious about the full journey.

While the story was interesting and the characters generally well-written, I struggled a bit with the main love interest, Noah. He gave off serious “pick-me” vibes that were so strong I had to stop reading and cringe a few times. The man is a pastor, yet won’t stop thinking about Jack(who is a girl, btw).… actually, you know what? Here is a list of reasons why Noah pissed me off:
1. The constant victim mentality- “oh, I’m not good for her,” “oh, I can’t preach very well,” “This town won’t accept me for who I am because of my past!!1!1!1” like SHUT UP! YOU’RE SO ANNOYING!
2. He’s an awful pastor. His theology is wack. On page 179 he literally talked about how his dad was trash and how he didn’t know Jesus, yet he might be in heaven??? Hello?? As a pastor, does he understand the steps of how to get into Heaven? Like salvation? That was stupid.
3. He literally cringed me to death with all of his thoughts about Jack. Like bro, zip it up and go lead your flock. I get it, pastors should get married blah blah blah, but he literally spent more time chasing after her than preaching!!!!!
4. The last few chapters after Billy breaks in and hurts Jack and then he holds him back and he’s all like “oMg i LoSt mYsElF!!1!” like bro, shut up!? Then, he leaves?? Without even a goodbye?? Then Jack has to chase after him?? WHAT THE CRINGE??? Be a man bro?!

Anyways, all my beef is with Noah. The rest of the book was lit.

I am so glad the author continued with Jack’s story! This is the 3rd book of this series and the first series I have read from the author. It was a good read. I preferred the 1st and 3rd books. I really appreciate the grace and forgiveness message throughout the series!

I enjoyed following all of the bride’s stories, seeing the struggles of all the characters and how they grew. I enjoyed the kids a lot and max too.

Jack was my favorite and I like who she became. The stories ministered to my heart. I like the Word of God being woven throughout each book. Thank you for a wonderful series!

Jack’s story in Finally a Bride was worth the wait. It's the tale of grown up Jacqueline (Jack) Davis who now wears dresses and looks like a lady, but still acts like the 10 yr old tomboy we met in the first book of this series. Consider the opening… Jack is after a story and climbs on the mayor’s roof to eavesdrop on his conversation with two strangers. No, I won’t tell you if she accomplishes her mission, but I will say pain is involved. Because she’ll do anything to uproot the truth.

If you remember book 1, you’ll remember Butch Laird who wrote “Jack is a liar” across every paintable surface in town. Bully that he was, he even locked Jack up in jail and left her there. Man, she detested that kid. Never mind that he had a point, he still shouldn’t have done it. And after he left town, the memory of his penetrating, intelligent eyes sent her scrambling to confess to her new pa, the sheriff. It eased her mind some, yet over the years, she’d occasionally wonder what happened to the boy behind those eyes.

Well, guess who Vickie McDonough has brought back to challenge Jack’s equilibrium as a young lady? Yup, Butch Laird himself. Except Butch was his nickname. Using his birth name and the surname he adopted from the man who took him in when he needed a home, Butch now goes by the handle, Noah Jeffers. Along with a new name, he’s a new man according to the gospel. And he’s a preacher.

Preacher Noah Jeffers is intent on hiding his identity because he wants to make restitution for the sins of his childhood without drawing attention to himself. His goal is to glorify God—not distract parishioners from the message. Except once he sees Jack again, she’s the one distracting him.

Jack is drawn to the new preacher’s compelling eyes. They hint at a vague memory, but nothing she can formulate into an image other than making her think of the fat bully, Butch Laird. But Noah Jeffers is nothing like the horror of her childhood. Noah is strong in body and spirit, a peaceful man standing firm in his faith. And somehow she’s going to discover why he won’t talk about his past.

Meanwhile, Carly Payton is back in town after serving 6 yrs in prison for robbery, kidnapping and other crimes. As a new believer, she knows God has forgiven her and only wants to live a normal life. But can the town people forgive her? And can Garret Corbett who was initially responsible for introducing her to Lookout put aside his prejudice for the jailbird and see her as a remorseful woman of faith who only wants a family like everyone else?

Vickie McDonough has taken ordinary people and put them on the carousel of life. She’s added love and faith and sent us along for the ride. Not rushed and hectic like our modern lives, but giving us an emotional journey as we rise and fall with each crest higher and each dip deeper than the one before. The pace quickens, action increases and dialogue cracks with authority and truth. Until finally, the long plunge down as Jack is faced with that monumental decision all adults have to make… what does she really want?

Jacqueline “Jack” is now 10 years older and all grown up. She wants to be a reporter for the big city of Dallas but first feels like she needs a big story for her small down of Lookout to get there. She is still the tomboy you know and love from the first two books but she is now a woman. She is hot on the trail of the Mayor as she feels he is hiding something for the city and she will do just about anything to get the story.

Noah finds himself back in Lookout now as the preacher not the troublemaker he was 10 years ago. The town does not know its him and either does Jack. Noah has never forgotten her and he hopes to show her and the town that he is a changed man and maybe he can even win her heart.

Carly who was the 3rd mail order bride is also back in the final book. She has served her time in jail and now wants to start her life in Lookout if the town’s people will except her. Garret is finally ready to settle down and find the right woman and he find’s himself with growing feelings for Carly but will he be able to put her past behind them both and find true love?

Its always bitter sweet to come to the final book in a series like this because you have come to know the characters very well and this is the final chapter. The book did not disappoint! Jack is such a fun character she had me laughing a lot and shaking my head at some of her silly attempts at getting the story. Jack also had to face her abuse from her first father in this book as she comes to care for Noah. I really like how the author touches on some sensitive subjects but includes humor and a realness that just makes the book great.

The side store of Carly and Garret was okay. Again this could have been its own book. These characters again seem to get short changed and never get to fully develop like the lead characters did. It was a good story though and I was glad to see everyone find happiness in the end.

Over all a great ending to a fun series. When I was done reading this book I felt the story had been fully told and did not leave me wishing for another book like some series I have read. If you like western romance then this is a great series and a must read! I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

Keep your eyes wide open for romance in Lookout, Texas. Jody Chapman, aka Butch Laird, returns to town determined to make up for past misdeeds. Will reporter Jacqueline Hamilton uncover his secret before Jody can capture her heart? With nowhere else to go, ex-con Carly Payton returns to the Lookout boardinghouse. Garrett Corbett is looking for an upstanding wife, not some jailbird. What will he do when overpowered by Carly’s appeal? Twice-widowed Christine Taylor isn’t looking to get re-hitched. Will love-stricken Rand Kessler find a way to woo her into wedlock? Does love deserve a first, second, or third chance?

I received this book as a pre-publication from netGalley

4.5/5

This was my first book by Vickie McDonough and I thought it was very sweet and moved along at a nice pace. I like the fact that we could see what both Jack and Noah's thoughts were... I love knowing the H/H's thoughts! The side story between Carly and Garret was sweet also but a little distracting and I caught myself skimming through to get to Noah and Jack. I personally thought is was VERY unlikely that Jack wouldn't have recognized Noah and that point was hard to get over since it kept going back to that.

This was definitely a inspirational/Christian book and referenced back to God's plan enough to make it a little excessive even for a someone that has a relationship with Jesus Christ. I enjoy a Christian romance but it causes me to feel miffed when the dialogue has to re-explain that the person in question is born again and no longer the same as they use to be over and over again.

That being said, I would definitely recommend this book to any and everyone because it has a positive and uplifting story with a great outcome. The story itself is very entertaining and it was hard for me to put down. It goes to show that when someone willingly commits their life to Jesus they have to change from their old ways, no matter how major or minor, to truly follow Him.

Series Texas Boardinghouse Brides book#3"Finally a Bride by Vickie McDonough

Good series if you like gals trying to find a good man. Lookout Tex is a growing community but not a lot of women so these men take notice when a new woman arrives.
Jacqueline Davis has grown up and still pursuing dream of being a big time reporter in Dallas. She still has a few antics up her sleeve though that surprises no one in Lookout Tx.
Carly Payton one of the first brides whom was found to be imposter and went to jail is now back wanting a new beginning, she is a christian now with help from Sherrifs wife and a good friend she is coming to town to help as a new baby is on the way soon for Luke and his bride.
Garrett has finally decided he wants to marry and settle down. Will he find the right woman?
Noah Jeffers who is a pastor has returned to be temp pastor and has a secret, He wants to atone for past and start anew in Lookout. Will this town accept him and forgive when they find out about his past? God forgives so completely -why do we hesitate when we need to do the same?

Finally a Bride is a story brimming with romance. Jacqueline “Jack” Davis harbors ambitions to leave tiny Lookout, Texas, for a career as a reporter in Dallas. When a new pastor arrives in town, she believes if she can get the scoop on his past, the resulting story will propel her straight to the big city. What she hadn’t counted on was her growing attraction to the handsome preacher.
Finally a Bride is the third book in the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series, but McDonough gives readers enough background information to keep them from getting lost.
This story is filled with Texas charm and enough original similes to keep readers smiling. Finally a Bride is a fun read. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys romance, Texas-style.

What a delightful story! Vickie McDonough treats her readers to a remarkable conclusion to the Boardinghouse Brides trilogy. The back cover copy calls it a tale of redemption, and it’s that and more. Mixing humor with drama, McDonough gives the “bad boys” (and girls) of the previous two books a chance at love. Finally a Bride is a heartwarming story of two couples struggling to overcome their pasts as they build a future filled with faith and love. Note: Although this is the last of the trilogy, McDonough has skillfully included enough background information that it’s not necessary to have read the previous two, but you won’t want to miss any of the Boardinghouse Brides, so pick up a copy of The Anonymous Bride and Second Chance Brides, too.

Noah Jeffers is the new preacher in town. Jackie Davis is determined to get the scoop on his past for a newspaper article. Besides being handsome, she finds out he's way more than she bargained for.

Garret Corbett has calmed his wild ways and wants to settle down with a good, decent, honorable woman. When ex-outlaw Carly Payton comes back to town, he can't stop thinking about her. Will his prejudice against her jailbird reputation blind him to the caring, domestic woman she's become?

And who is the culprit behind recent robberies in town?

Thoroughly enjoyable. A sweet story full of secrets, memorable characters, and "Aww moments" that warm your heart.

Fun, romantic book! Vickie McDonough has such a grand sense of humor. Rarely does a book make me laugh, but she succeeded with this story. The characters are unique and lovable and the story is funny, witty, charming and romantic. It would be best if you've read the prior 2 books in the series, but not necessary. Definitely another winner from Ms. McDonough!

Carley is the final bride of the breading house brides to be wed. After serving time in prison, Carley finds Christ through her friendship with Rachel. When she can no longer stay with the elderly couple after his wife dies, Rachel invites her to Lookout, to her care for her children as she is about to have her fifth child. Carley accepts and is surprised to be picked up by Garrett, who now seeks a wife.

Rachel’s daughter Jack is now a young lady and reporter. Butch is a pastor going by his birth name Noah. He returns to Lookout, where he was a bully. He wants to settle for his actions. He falls in love with Jack, who he renames Jackie.

Nice complicated relationships as each finds their way through Christ to each other.

This is a quick, fun book to read dealing with the issue of do a person's past misdeeds have to define them as a person for the rest of their lives or can they truly be saved by the grace of God and be made new. The book is full of fun characters. I'd read the second book in this series several years ago so it was fun to catch up with them. This book was set about ten years later. Readers who enjoy Christian historical romance with some spunk will enjoy this book.

Noah and Jacqueline

Noah came up Lookout, Texas as temporary minister, but with question in his heart because he left town a decade of years ago as the town bully. Jacqueline, Like was the step daughter of the town lawman. After a time they each silently became they each cared for each other, but could not accept it. Will they each realize they love one another and acknowledge that fact or each be sad and lonely. This is a great series and you will enjoy reading.

much better than the other two and great character development. however the end was rushed. Vickie doesn't like to wait around, when she decides the book should end it's like BAM. They're married they're happy. End of story. And she killed off Bertha Boyd. That sad fat lady who was 5'2 and 300 lbs but somehow managed to be the size of a buckboard wagon came to an end. Just as well.

I love western romance novels - we have action, shooting, God, Texas - how much better can it get. This book deals with a man that has done evil things in the past and the fmc is a reporter who is determined to find out what these evil deeds were.

the theme is that God forgives all and if you believe in Him you won't burn in hell - and everyone forgives everyone.
A cute little romance.

I really enjoyed reading this series.
I was a bit disappointed with the ending of this book. It felt a little rushed at the end. I really wanted to see a bit more from the couples before the series ended.

Jacqueline “Jack” Davis doesn’t need a man in her life. After years of suffering abuse at the hands of her biological father, Jack won’t allow herself to dream of a life filled with a husband and children. This is further demonstrated by Jack’s need to constantly fend off the amorous advances of local wild-child Billy Morgan, who is determined to make Jack his wife.

Jack’s goal is to get out of the idyllic town of Lookout and to become a reporter in Dallas. A story on the shady doings of the town mayor is sure to do it. But the arrival of new pastor, Noah Jeffers, soon alters Jack’s outlook on life. When an opportunity presents itself, can Jack really leave Noah and her family behind?

Noah Jeffers reluctantly accepts the position of interim pastor in Lookout. His past and present colliding, he looks to God for guidance. Noah has secrets—big ones—surrounding both Lookout and Jack. In Lookout, he seeks forgiveness and redemption from the past. But his immediate attraction to Jack threatens to derail his plans.

Carly Payton seeks acceptance and forgiveness from the people of Lookout. But her past may simply be too retched to forgive and forget. A former member of a violent gang, Carly had paid for her mistakes of the past by enduring a long prison sentence. Although she has found God and accepted Him into her life, Carly still travels a rocky road. The people of Lookout are not happy or accepting of an ex-convict into their town, especially when her arrival coincides with a spate of violent crimes.

But it isn’t long before Carly catches the eyes of bachelor Garrett Corbett. Garrett is anxious to finally find the right woman and start a family. But to Garrett, Carly doesn’t meet his expectations of a possible wife. People would talk, he knows. He doesn’t want to put himself or any future children at risk of a possible scandal. Still, a relationship with Carly feels right.

Finally a Bride is a heart-warming story of redemption, forgiveness, and finally, acceptance, in the face of adversity. It is chock full of lovely well-rounded characters that look to God for direction to reach their individual goals in life. A strong, uplifting plot keeps the reader reading to a satisfying conclusion. The growth of each of the main characters, especially Jack and Noah, is both profound and extremely satisfying. It hits its mark without coming off as preachy. This is a must-read for any fan of inspirational historical romance. Finally a Bride is a real gem.

Jack’s back!

Having read the first two offerings in this author’s Texas Boardinghouse Brides series, I had already fallen in love with young Jacqueline Davis (aka Jack Hamilton). The tomboyish child is all grown up in Finally a Bride, and dreams of snagging a job as a reporter in Dallas and shaking the dust of Lookout, Texas off her feet.

Then Noah Jeffers comes to town to fill in for the minister. He’s young. He’s handsome. And he’s hiding a secret that could destroy any chance of a relationship with Jack. Those same secrets have the young preacher making covert amendments all over town. His offers to chop wood for the town’s busybody sisters and paint the walls of the general mercantile aren’t made strictly out of the goodness of his heart…

Even as Jack and Noah sort through their feelings for each other and try to find their paths in life, one of the original Lookout brides returns to town. Carly Payton is an ex-convict, and not at all the kind of wife Garrett Corbett thought he wanted. But Garret’s about to learn a surprising lesson about how love works…and about the amazing grace of God.

I loved this entire series, but Finally a Bride is far and away my favorite of the three books. Jack (Jackie, Jacqueline) is the perfect heroine—she’s likeable, has tremendous personality, and possesses a penchant for getting herself into trouble. Noah is the ultimate flawed hero, with his inability to stomach pork, an amusing inclination to mispronounce words during his sermons, and a touching devotion to a certain young lady. And, as always, encountering well-loved characters from previous books is a special treat.

Texas Boardinghouse Brides is, in this reader’s opinion, a top-notch series. Each book is better than the last…which says a lot for the author’s writing and storytelling skills. Kudos to Vickie McDonough, and “both thumbs up” to Finally a Bride!

Another great book in the Texas Boardinghouse Series by Vickie McDonough. Finally a Bride is the third book in the series and it was my favorite out of all three. This story is about 10 years after the previous book, Second Chance Brides. It still has all the favorite characters in it like The Davis' and the Corbett brothers but they also brought back Carly Payton, the criminal fake mail-order-bride that was in the first book. This book is about Jack Davis who is now in her 20's and is working for the local newspaper. She is still just as adventurous and daring as ever. Enter in Pastor Noah Jeffers, the young 20 something hunk of a pastor. Then there is also Carly back and is looking just to fit in at Lookout and possibly find a man to love.

I really enjoyed this story! It was fun to see Jack now as a grown up woman and just at daring as ever. She was a hilarious child and I loved the predicaments she got in to now as a news reporter! She was definitely my favorite character in this story! I loved watching her fight her feelings towards the hunky new pastor! The Pastor Noah was also a great character; he was struggling with his identity and whether or not God really was calling him to pastor the church in Lookout.

This was a great western romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Besides romance there was a bit of mystery, some humor and of course a touch of life lesson. Vickie McDonough always has a way of bringing some God into the book without overwhelming you with preaching. There were just the struggles of some of the characters who were dealing with their pasts and learning where God was leading them. I always wish a book like this had a bit more romance to it, a bit more kissing and flirting, but that's just my preference. It was very clean and sweet! Great read!
