Summary: Stewart goes to the lake with his family. He decides to sail across the lake, but encounters a multitude of adventures along the way. In the end, Stewart never makes it to the other side of the lake, but he enjoys his time on the water and all the adventures he finds himself apart of.

Uses: guided reading for late-early readers, recommend for independent reading for transitional readers, recommend to students who like reading about adventures

Literary Devices: onomatopoeia, alliteration, simile

Social issues: everyone is different, but still important; adventures in life

Others: get for guided reading and many student may be familiar with the original story; this text would also provide a transition into the original and more complex version.

Had one to two sentences per page. The pictures were engaging. Included dialogue between characters. The phrase "a whale of a problem" was used. Would be good to discuss meaning with child before reading.
