This novel was mostly a yawn. Actually, it did put me to sleep on a few occasions. I found the plot tedious and none of the characters particularly interesting. The lead character, Jimmy, was narcissistic beyond measure. Since it was told in the first person, I had to wonder if the author fancied himself to be Jimmy. Jimmy professes to love his wife, Fiona, devotedly but she never emerges as a sympathetic character. She's either being rather petulant or dissolving in tears. In no way would I recommend this uninteresting novel.
This lame excuse for a novel is so bad, I could not force myself to read beyond the second chapter. Sounding like it was written by a teenager who grew up on Goosebumps stories, it is self-absorbed and trite. There goes half an hour I will never get back.
I had a blast creating the audiobook version of "Deadly Night" for Aiden (not only a great author but a wonderful human being)! I hope it's enjoyed by all who give it a listen!!
It was particularly fun creating the voices for the cast of characters, of all genders, temperaments, regionalities, and ethnicities (not to mention both living and dead)! A lot here for a narrator to sink his teeth into!
I read this book and LOVED it! This is one of my favorite Aiden James books. When the audio version came out, I was curious to hear it. My initial response was that Daniel didnt sound like what I had in my mind as how Jimmy would sound. As I listened though, I enjoyed the inflections and the drama that Daniel's voice added to my favorite story. I ended up being a big fan of his version and will listen to it again!
Hated this book. The writing style leaves a lot to be desired, the characters were not interesting and the ending was terrible. The premise was intriguing and in the hands of a capable writer it would have been a home run. The author was clearly confused as to what this story was supposed to be, a ghost hunt or a rock n roll concert.
I loved this story , I haven't read many horror stories, I'm a bit of a wimp, I loved the way it was completely written from one of the characters, Jimmy's point of view, the scarier bits seemed more scary as I was right there with him
This book was a wonderful read, especially if you like paranormal, ghost hunting or mystery. Every page keeps you wanting to know more. Can’t wait to read the next one.
I'm usually not one for reading ghost stories.. but, this one.. just peaked my interest and I got it! Ohhhhhh.. it truly is a good'un! Aiden James artfully weaved together an excellent ghost story that will send chills down your backside!
'Deadly Night' is one man's story of the events that take place in his life over a short period of time. His wife is rather psychic and they've put together a group of paranormal investigators who are hoping to find evidence that will confirm once and for all.. that ghosts exist!
Their group finds themselves in the midst of a murder mystery.. as many of their longtime friends are being murdered by a serial killer. It's only a matter of time.. before the killer goes after the "hero" of the story.
I like that Aiden James puts in all of the equipment used by ghost hunters.. and that he chose to include in the group.. a pure skeptic. A gal that absolutely does NOT believe in the spirit world.. and dead means DEAD. The scary southern mansions that they investigate.. the author writes the descriptions so well.. that you are mentally traveling right alongside the group as they perform their investigations! From seeing soldiers in graveyards.. to black clouds that follow them around from site to site!
A quick read. One that most will enjoy! The ending.. is bound to surprise all!I'm usually not one for reading ghost stories.. but, this one.. just peaked my interest and I got it! A group of paranormal investigators suddenly find themselves dealing with those of the real world intent on murder. Now their own lives are at stake as they face beings from the world beyond.
This is a very interesting story in that the paranormal aspect is not the focus of the book while playing a big part of the story. The ghosts are there, but the story is more focused on the real people. This makes the plot even more interesting with twists and turns you don’t expect. There are many layers to this plot that have you watching it from different angles and trying desperately to figure out who the killer is.
The story is from the first person view of the ghost chaser’s husband. He has a dry sense of humor and will do anything for his family. In fact, all characters were unique and perfect for the story.
I really enjoyed the story. Very little language and some gory scenes described briefly. Obviously, there are some ghosts and demonic figures. Humor and mystery rule the pages.
Note: I received this book during free download days on Amazon with no expectation of a positive review.
Also, I see that it is only an audio book now. I read the ebook version. But if I know Mr. James, the audio version will be amazing as well.
"Deadly Night" by Aiden James was recommended to me by a friend. I was intrigued by the ghost hunting theme and decided to give it a try even though I am not a huge fan of paranormal fiction. I found myself however pleasantly entertained by a story that follows the death of a country singer, Candi Starr, and of two more victims, close associates in Nashville's esteemed West End. But that is just the beginning. Enter psychic ghost hunter, Fiona, and her rock musician husband Jimmy,to investigate these murders with their company, Nash-Vegas-Paranormal. The team use the techniques most of us have seen on Haunted-TV-Reality shows or films of the genre and with that territory come the sceptics and the believers in the existence of spirits. Since they seem to be coming after the investigating team as well it is hard to deny the possibilities, though. The book is humorous at times - a great irony that a rock fan has to snoop around the death of a Country star. The story held my attention easily and I will say that I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in the series.
LAME! This book was trying way too hard! I finally started skimming past all the super cool jam sessions thrown in to show us lame readers what a badass Jimmy is when he's not telling us what a badass he is or how hot his wife is. There wasn't any mystery for me--I had the killer pegged early on and exactly when/where it would all come to a head. The only thing I didn't see coming was the hermaphrodite bit. Which was just stupid. I had hoped this would be a change of pace from the typical kindle first selections, but I should've known it'd be a let down since it's book 1 of a series. And the last 20% of the book is a sneak peek at another of the author's books. So I guess that's a good thing, because it meant it was shorter than I anticipated!

I finished this story last night and cannot wait for The Ungrateful Dead to be finished and released. What a wonderful story. I loved the crude humor and snarky comments made throughout the story. I found myself cheering them on, sympathizing with the horror of the call center, and laughing hystericall at the comments made about Ed. I could really relate to this story- the interaction between the group of friends was not much different than conversations between my own group of friends. Definitely a wonderful read, and one I'll be revisiting in the future.
This is the beginning of a good series. Fiona Alea and her husband Jimmy are ghost hunters. They are shocked to find out that Candi Starr, a famous country singer and personal friend, has been murdered. They begin to look into her death when more of their friends begin to die. Jimmy wants to keep his family safe and investigates the murders but finds that he may be a target. This was very well written. The characters are well written and the side "phenomena" stories are very good. I enjoyed this and will read more.
I loved this book. The writing kept it down to earth and interesting, with some laughs and sadness along the way. And what would a great book be without having a big YES!, in the book as well. Without giving anything away, I will definitely be reading the next book in this series without a doubt. I will recommend this to anyone from high school and beyond. Sometimes things really do go bump in the night. I know... I've lived it.
My first Aiden James book. The main story line was a good one, but it seemed to wander into descriptions and sub stories that did not do much for the main plot. The paranormal stuff was a little over the top as well. If you lie a lot of these stories this book you will like. I will try another book by this author.
Let me start off by saying that this type of mystery isn't my favorite and the writing would probably appeal more to the younger generation. However, it was a fun read/listen. It kept me engaged and was definitely more on the funny side. I thought the narrator did a good job with the various voice inflections. All in all, not a bad listen.
I loved it! The books description needs to be updated! Aiden James is one smooth writer! The story seemed to parallel parts of my life (minus the murder (s), lol.) unbelievably. Naturally, I got quite the kick out of it! I highly suggest that that this IS a must read book. You'll be glad you did. Can't wait to devour the 2nd book in this series.
What a great paranormal read. Aiden James knows just what to write to grab your attention and keep it. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book. And I was shocked as to who the killer was, had no idea the whole time. I look forward to the next book in this series and to more works by Mr. James.
I really enjoyed this. The characters were very likable an the book was well-written. If you are new to paranormal fiction this a great book to get you started.
