Gabriel Panlong has seen a lot over the centuries but nothing prepares him for the sight of two gorgeous men having sex up against an alley wall in broad daylight. Instantly turned on by the men and the scene before him, he feels guilty for watching such an intimate act. Gabriel walks away, only to hear the sounds of a struggle and smell the sweet scent of blood. Hurrying back, Gabriel hopes the two little hot men he saw are okay. Instead he walks into five large men beating the two men he longed to join. Dealing with his mounting desire is the least of Gabriel's problems. Learning that Neil and Ryan were part of an underground slavering and the abuse they suffered, it's no wonder they don't trust Gabriel. But can he help heal them as they heal him of centuries of loneliness?

The effeminate men, down to them getting pregnant was enough to sour me on this book. I do so wonder how much experience Flynn has had with REAL men. She proclaims she's a lover of men on her Bio but judging by her writing I always find myself wondering if she doesn't have deep seated lesbian issues.

Yet again I see she has her Yahoo members rating the book on up here. Always just 4 and 5 stars and saying NOTHING about WHY it deserves the rating. I suppose it would look dumb if they all say what they say on the group - "Great story! When is the next?"

Then again, genuine reviewing takes TIME and EFFORT and ENERGY and the ability to actually THINK. Something Miss Flynn's Yahoo members seem to be sorely lacking and something which she herself does not seem to appreciate as any sane author would.

Then I see this little ditty I saw on Stormy's Yahoo group:

"Ok - so Joyee is up for book of the week....however, we also know that Joyee is up against Stormy - but Stormy and Joyee have cooked up a plot to have everyone vote for Joyee this time and then next time everyone from Joyee and Stormy's groups will vote for Stormy....so please go and vote...."

Yep, try and rig the votes. Reaaaaaal mature and so fair. Lol. Don't vote honestly if you think Stormy's was better. Try and help the floundering and desperate (and insecure) Flynn. That won't boost your sales Miss Flynn. Not without a dramatic overhaul of your writing "technique".

I find it hard to believe that with the kind of sales you say you make (once Flynn said well over 10,000 for the month)...over one year after forming her Yahoo group she can't even hit the 300 mark? When I was an amateur web writer and unpublished (Flynn loves to point out she's published when attacking her criticizers, as if web publishing is not available to anyone), when I was a web writer I had well over 2500 members.

I wish I could see how much sales she really makes. Because if her meager group membership is anything to go by...can't be nearly as much as she claims. Of course, calling people f*cking b*tches and c*nts and m*other f*ckers for making a few recommendations also might have something to do with that...

PS - Miss Flynn you should do your readers the courtesy of at least maintaining the semblance of research when you "write". Use (ugh) Wikipedia in order to understand basic constraints imposed on the injured human body. Hint, hint - broken bones do tend to cause a lot of pain, sufferers DO have their mobility and other functions diminished and yes, this SHOULD be portrayed realistically in your books. I have seen your characters ignore and shrug off injuries that make REAL MEN cry. Just a word of advice from someone who's spent a lot of clinically oriented time in the hospital.

The male pregnancy (also knows as MPREG) theme is my kinky secret passion. There are not so much non-fanfiction stories out there, and not so many publishers willing to release them, so it’s possible for me to read and enjoy almost all the available novels and author who “dare” to write about it. But friends, remember that I’m a woman, a romance reader, and so what I like is not what everyone like; if you ask me, is the male pregnancy a mainstream theme, I would answer, absolutely not; is the male pregnancy a theme that can appeal to the gay reader, I would answer, probably not. I know of only one male author who wrote of a male pregnancy (and the book is in my reading list), but from what I gathered, it’s more in a horror contest than a real “I want a baby” theme. Actually I’m not even sure the pregnancy in that novel will end in the male character having a baby.

So coming back to Dragon Mine and Siren Publishing. Siren Publishing, with Noble Romance Publishing, Changeling Press and Liquid Silver Books, are, as far as I know, the only publishers with male pregnancy books in their catalogue. Moreover, Siren and Noble Romance share also an author, Stormy Glenn. I read some of the Stormy Glenn’s novels, and they are all on the trend, Alpha Male meets cute (and bratty) omega male and they build an happy little family. Is the Alpha Male strong, sturdy and passionate? Of course. Is the omega male little, spoiled and pretty? Of course. Are they real? Of course not. Like a spin off of those novel, Joyee Flynn, who started her writing career as co-author of Stormy Glenn, launched her own series, the North American Dragon. In an alternative contemporary reality (meaning that we are still in the 2010, but this is not our ordinary contemporary society) shapeshifter Dragons are living among us; 40 years before there was a spread of violence directed to the Dragons and humans tried to exterminate the breed; apparently the Dragons were clever and not so much interested in the “little” fights with humans, and what people achieved was simply to drastically decrease the number of human females. Basically Dragons are only men, and when they mate, they impregnate each other, no need of women at all. Due to the lack of women, among the human population the split between Alpha males and omega males is even more striking, and feminine men are more and more substituting women and their traditionally roles (yes, yes, this is quite a male chauvinist sentence, but it’s to give you the whole idea).

This is basically the story of Dragon Mine, what probably will appeal the romance reader is the interaction between Ryan and Neil and their big bad dragon, Gabriel: they are like little puppies and their Master, Gabriel is a gentle giant, tenderly taking care of his little men, and Ryan and Neil are plenty enjoying to be spoiled; from a difficult past of abuse and violence, when they arrive under the protective shielf of Gabriel, they flourish; they are joyful and happy, and Gabriel doesn’t want for them to change, doesn’t matter if they are not responsible or independent, Gabriel can allow them to be spoiled brats.

A little complain on the use of the Italian word "piccola"; maybe since I'm Italian this is something that bothered me but many of the readers will not understand it. In the novel is explained by Gabriel that since he calls Neil "baby", he has to find an equal nickname for Ryan, and he decides on "piccola", telling him that is basically the Italian translation of "baby". True, but it's the "female" Italian translation, "piccola" (A in the end) if for women, "piccolo" (O in the end) is for men. Problem is that, while "piccola" in Italian is indead a sweet nickname, you can use for you female lover, "piccolo" is not the same, on the contrary, piccolo can be even an offense. See how strange and difficult is the Italian language? I would prefer for it to be used in the right contest. And by the way, I'm not sure the author knew the difference between piccola and piccolo, I'm fine if she used "piccola" for a man, if there was a reason, but that was not explained.

I'm afraid this book didn't do it for me.

The male pregnancy didn't really bother me and it's because the birth giving is not described in the book: the way it happens is explained, but the actual birth is skipped over. Now, I don't know if it's better this way because it would have been rather gruesome, I think, or if it shows a lack of courage on the part of the author.

In my opinion this book lacks a bit of depth and I don't know if it would have benefited from some editing out or from a few more pages of character development. When the writer went into the feelings of the protagonists, I really liked the story and the last pages, where Neil had to go over a difficult moment (I don't want to spoil it for you), were really emotional, because I could relate to him and his suffering. The dragon seemed to me like a big puppy and not like the hot guy he should have been and by the end I was really tired of cocks exploding.

I had an issue with the use of the term of endearment "piccola" which is explained as the Italian equivalent of "baby, babe". It's ok if it's referred to a woman, but not so much if it is given to a man, in which case the correct word is "piccolo". It could have been written on purpose, but I'd rather see a man be treated like a man.

Yes, I'm back, with more of my sinful brain candy. Thank you to a dear friend (cough, cough, Sadonna) for recommending this series, and giving me the nickname for it.

Are you ready? THE DRAGON BABY CRACK BOOKS! I love it! This first book was so much fun. My heart hurt for everything Ryan and Neil had gone through before Gabriel rescued them.

Personally, I think there's not much sexier than a dragon shifter and this book sure shows why. *grins*

How can an 11 inch cock have a knot that extends from the end of it attach onto the prostate of the guy he is screwing? How?

I must continue this series to see if the mystery is solved :-/

Typical Menage Amour...
I'm not sure it's even fair for me to rate this novel, so I'm just not going to. It is what it is. (Quick, easy read with superficial "plot" and a fair amount of average sex.) I don't actually know what possessed me to pick this up to begin with though, except knowing the story had a dragon shifter. I do love dragons...

Bottom Line: If you are in the mood to read a Menage Amour story, I'm sure you'd find this adequate but not particularly special. If you are looking to read quality m/m romance, I doubt you'd be looking at Menage Amour to begin with.

I gave this author a try because the premises of her books sound interesting, but after you get through the first few chapters they're all the same..... brutal. There is no better word for her writing than sophmoric, she's so busy churning out books that she doesn't take the time to fully flesh out her storylines. I've completely given up on her.

I loved this book. Not just as a start to a new series (which is great news), but as a story. Dragon shifters are fairly rare, the world that is presented is just different enough to pique my interest, and the message is one of hope for all those who are suppressed for being different. The focus is firmly on the developing relationship between the three men, and while there is no glaring outside conflict, there was just enough of it to slightly rattle me towards the end of the book.

Oh yes, there is male pregnancy as well, so be warned if that is not something you like. For my part, I find it fascinating to see how authors play with it, to see how they can make it work and to show the effects it might have on men if such a thing were possible.

Gabriel is a wonderful guy, uhm, dragon shifter. Physically strong yet emotionally somewhat vulnerable, he shows honor and compassion for the two men he rescues from being beaten to death. As difficult as it is for him to hold back from claiming them as his mates, he manages, always putting them first. In that sense alone he is the perfect hero. But there is his softer side as well, and it comes out plenty of times when he's around Nick and Ryan.

Nick has been beaten, exploited, and rejected so many times that it's hard to believe he's still so trusting. He's one of those truly resilient men who can bounce back after almost anything. He also has solidly sound instincts which help him maneuver through life as a slave. Plenty of people will 'attack' him for crying too much, but, honestly? After what he's been through and with how strong he actually is, I didn't mind that one bit. Never mind that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a man who cries in the first place! People react differently under stress, and I like that Joyee showed him to be vulnerable as well as strong.

Ryan has had a slightly different past from Nick', but has suffered just as much. He doesn't show it in the same way, but his need to be accepted is palpable. He is far less trusting, and that threatens his relationship with Nick when the latter latches onto Gabriel much more quickly than Ryan. In many ways he is the voice of reason in the relationship. I liked that it took him a little longer to 'come around', providing some much needed logic to the volatile mix of characters.

If you like shifter stories, thought experiments around the 'slightly impossible', and strong yet vulnerable characters, you will like this book. And, oh yes, it very much has a feeling of a fairy tale rather than a hard-hitting adventure novel. Personally, I really liked that!

This book is set in an alternative time, where dragons were discovered as real and shifters in the 1970s, starting a human/dragon war that has left the dragon population (all male) relatively unchanged and the human population less billions, with most females dead. In this strange world, a dragon shifter can impregnant his male mate and cause the mate's body to be able to bear and have a child.

When Gabriel sees two young men having sex in an alley near the store he is visiting, he is struck by how attractive they both are. Coming back out of the store, he sees them being attacked, rescues them, and takes them him rather than leaving them unconcious in the alley. This starts a chain of events were two young men who have been abused slaves have to decide if they can trust and love.

I enjoyed the story as long as I suspended disbelief. It wasn't the fantasy aspects that bothered me (as long as a fantasy follows its own rules, m-preg, mates, etc. don't bother me). No, the aspect that threw me a little was the insta-love, especially coming from men who had been used and abused for their entire lives. Otherwise, though, I enjoyed the story and will probably read more in the series at some time.

Not a bad story in all and pretty sexy. For something light, short and really wonderfully raunchy, it hits the spot. Still, its pretty simple and short. The stilted dialogue leaves a lot to be desired and it's ripe with insta-love (though it's a mating book, so for some that might be forgiven). I enjoyed reading it, though, and it was certainly cute, though I really would have loved to know more about the dragon world (the conception and pregnancy stuff is pretty interesting) and more about Gabe's history (with over 800 years of living, there has to be some interesting stories there!).

I'll definitely reading the next installment in the series, Dragon Ours, not only because I liked Todd the Sheriff from this first book and because it's always nice to have a book like this around for when you're in the mood for something light, sweet, and unbearably hot, but because I LOVE stories about quads, and they're rare to find. Probably because if its hard for some readers to imagine a relationship with three, then four is really pushing it. Yet, I still can't help my carnal imagination ;)

This is an interesting world Joyee has created. Very imaginitive and kinda dark. The dragon shifter -Gabriel- stops a beating, and finds himself the caregiver for two recovering slaves. While Neil is sweet and open, Ryan is wary and careful. Gabriel has his work cut out for him as he earns the trust of both men and shows them how much he cares for them. Between the three, they make for wonderful relationship dynamics. And men having babies? Whew! How that works still blows my mind. lol. This story is well put together, made me laugh and cry, and is one I had to read more than once. I eagerly await more in this series.

This book was reviewed for Musings of a bookworm

I normally try to avoid this at all cost but this review does contain spoilers!!

OK I am on the fence with this book, it was a good story and I liked the people but it required a massive leap of faith and suspension of disbelieve to accept this world to be one that could exist. I have to wonder if the author was a little angry with the male gender when she wrote this seeing as she has the Dragons mates giving birth to the children. Now don't get me wrong as a mother of four I LOVE the idea of thee men having to carry and give birth. What I found just to be just the wrong side of fanciful was that Neil and Ryan got pregnant the first time, when Gabriel had said that the mating would change their bodies so the could accommodate a baby. Even if they were at it like rabbits I would think it would take a couple of weeks at least to grow a new organ. The story its self is a good one the characters are likeable and as the start of a series it did do its job, if I am honest I wont be rushing to buy the other books in this series but if I get stuck and don't know what to read I will go back to it just to see what happens to the slave traders.

This was an ok story. Gabriel is a dragon shifter who saves two gay men from a brutal beating. It turns out that the men are escaped sex slaves, Neil and Ryan. They are thrown by Gabe's kindness and are soon a mated threesome. The main characters were likable considering their backgrounds. I had a difficult time with the story's initial timeline. Ms Flynn had both Neil and Ryan beaten unconscious and yet that same night they were screwing with Gabe. Everything moved quickly in this story. The trio is mated after a week of being together and Neil and Ryan are pregnant that same week. The lack of any female dragons was an interesting twist.

I really liked the premise for this book, but the writing style felt a bit too simplistic and failed to really evoke the emotions and feelings for me to get fully engrossed in it. I enjoyed all three main characters, but grew a little weary of both the self-doubts x 3 ("really, you think I'm hot?", "you can't love me") and use of endearments (my big dragon, my little baby, etc.). I did love the absolute commitment and adoration shown by all three men towards each other. This one deals with mpreg, but not in great detail; so, if that's not your thing, it's still probably okay.

Oh my god. What have I done to myself? I have never been so glad a book was that short. Why do I even bother reading Joyee Fynn books anymore? I know I can't stand them anymore and yet I picked one up again. I think I got dizzy from all the eye rolling I've been doing while reading this book. I mean, really, since when is anyone that's 5'7 small? And why do guys keep crying every other page? It was so annoying. I am seriously making a note to myself not to ever pick a book by this author again. If I ever do, it might be too soon. *sigh*

2.5 Stars - Plot, Sex, Sex, Crying, Sex, Crying, Sex, Sex, Sex, Plot, Crying, Plot, Sex. It was a fluff piece with lots of hot sex, some mpreg, a little angst near the end and a happily ever after. There was just too much crying going on from all three men. It was like the author took what everyone thinks stereotypical about women and turned them into men. Don't get me wrong. I usually like bad fluffy books. I like Stormy Glen and Lynn Hagen. This just seemed worse.

I've tried - really tried to like Ms. Flynn as a writer. I do like her story concepts, but I'm having a difficult time getting past the juvenile dialog she uses through the entire story. The three star rating is due to the fact that I do like the story, if I didn’t it would have gotten two stars.

This book kind of hits in the middle for me. I love the MPreg aspect of it and how caring Gabriel is when it comes to Neil and Ryan. What I didn't love about the book was the instant love and how emotional Gabriel would get. I expected a dragon shifter that had lived hundreds of years to be less emotional.

I will say that the story moved quickly. It had a lot happening in just a little over 100 pages. I hate to say it, but I would have preferred less sex and much more storyline. I like a good sex scene or so in a book, but this one had too much for the length.

Now, I want to say this was a fun short read. I kept me entertained. I just had to take it like it was written and go with it. I would try more books in the series. I probably will in the future. I just know that they are written in a way that there are aspects I don't much care for.

This was just annoying to read. I honestly thought this was what I needed after the shit filled week Ive had and what better way to unwind than by reading a kinky MMM book with graphic descriptions of alleyway sex ON the first page. But after that, the story became a mushy, gag worthy, smutty read that did nothing for me.
Worst part apart from the insane insta love and non plot, was when an 800+ old, supposedly bad-ass human fighting (killing) - older than the first fucking condom- war dragon literally cried over two giggling boys he just met; because they might be "afraid" of him.

Um, well, no thank you! This one just didn't work for me at all. Lots of crying, lots of sex, insta-love and while I don't expect a dragon shifter book to be realistic, this just didn't evoke one bit of anything for me. The mates came across and child-like and more than that, girl child-like. I think I'll take a pass on this series.

The plot (and I use that term generously) was thin and not well-developed. The characterization was practically nil, and to top it all off, the author somehow managed to contrive one of the worst A/B/O Explanations I have ever read. I could not bring myself to finish this book, save yourself the time and energy, folks.

It was like a porno gay video (book xD) with a little bit of conflit in the end just to have the "and misfortune strikes again the happy couple!!" (in this case trio). But I didn't disliked it, I wanted to know more and that is important to me. So, in the end, maybe a 2.5*.

Angelique’s Review

“Dragon Mine” takes place in an alternate reality where women are almost extinct. It touches on recovering from past pain and abuse to move forward. Ms. Flynn crafts a unique world of consuming love, searing lust, and a dragon shifter.

Gabe is by far my favorite character in this novella. He is strong, brave, and loyal to his men. While Neil and Ryan’s demons were much more physical, he lived the majority of his almost 900 years being either hunted or unwanted. Watching him fall in love with the guys is heartwarming.

The love scenes in this story were uber steamy and the sexual tension was so thick, you could slice it like bread. Variety is definitely the key as the romantic interludes get hotter and hotter as the story moves on.
There were a few things in this story that I just could not wrap my head around. The method for dragon reproduction was very weird and that part of the story was a major turn-off for me.

“Dragon Mine” was a nice quick read with some very intense ménage action.

So how to review this book. It's really a 2.5 but I have to say it was such a quick light read. Even though there are awful things - sex slaves, guys were abused and abandoned, attempted kidnappings, etc. it's really not a bleak story at all. Neil and Ryan and Gabe are just so damned happy - all that giggling and kissing and sex! I don't want to be all spoilery because there's some really bad stuff that happens well into the story, but the end is not sturm und drang.

One thing I would have liked more of was Gabe in his dragon form. We don't get much of that and I would have liked more information on the dragon wars and the dragon "world." Alas, I guess I'm just going to have to read the next ones.

I started off reading Joyee Flynn with Micah and the whole Marius brothers series. I enjoyed reading that series even with the issue of unrealistic situations (being shot or beat and then having sex within what seems like minutes).

However, this book (and in fact the whole North American Dragon Series) did so little for me that I had a hard time finishing each book.

There are many m/m authors out there who even through their unrealistic situations are able to capture the readers attention and heart. This doesn't. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for your upcoming reading pleasure.

I read some of the reviews before reading this book and thought it couldn't be that bad. It was. The plot is somewhat interesting, the romance as well but the way the characters were written...Could you have, maybe, castrated these males even more? I don't think so. They were complete messes emotionally but hey that was acceptable but guys who cry all the time? When there isn't actually a strong reason for it? Who pretty much act like besotted and fragile females every single moment of the day? Even the dragon looked like a spineless emotional idiot most of the time. And the cherry on top? Let's give them babies. Yes. That's better!

I was given this book along other works from other authors in a free M/M bundle. Thank God I did not pay for this.
