This book is about three children, Andrew, Judy, and Thudd as they embark on an adventure to save their uncle from kidnappers who have brought him to the ice age. In order to do this, the three children time travel on an invention created by their Uncle Al called The Time-A-Tron. This invention brings them back to a time before the Earth was even created. As the book progresses, the three children begin to see how their world was created. This science fiction based book, is a great read for upper elementary students (3-5 grade), due to it's content and high vocabulary. I found myself constantly having to re-read certain parts of the book because I struggled with some of the language. Reading this as an E-book, was equally challenging because I found that I wasn't able to look at the whole page at once.
The illustrations varied throughout the book, but many of them were small and fit in a corner of the page. I found that I definitely needed to read the text in order to understand what the picture was of. However, there were some larger pictures, and those really helped bring the story to life. I had expected the pictures to have color based on the way the text was able to create images in the minds of the reader. I wished that this had translated to paper. Although the story was science fiction, the illustrators displayed realism technique, as they tried to match what "actually" happened during the specific time periods.
I think that this book should be read independently. It has a lot of scientific vocabulary and it can be difficult for readers who are not "interested" in this specific subject. I also would recommend this as a literature circle book because I think there is a lot of discussion that can come from the events that are being described, however, it is important that the people in that group enjoy this specific genre in order for the discussion to have meaning.

Twin Text Non-fiction Entry #2

I chose to pair this book with the book "Earth" by L.L. Owens. I chose to do this because I think ti would be a good resource for my kids to have to learn more about the earth than they already knew, and it will help them see the differences and similarities between the real planet Earth, and the Earth that Andrew describes in his book.

The knowledge from the non-fiction book will help my students understand how truly different Earth is during the "Andrew Lost on Earth" book. I twill give them a necessary review about the things they already know about earth, as well as give some extra information they may not have known about our planet.

I think it is very important for children to read books about our planet, because we live here. We need to know how to protect the earth and treat it the right way. The students who know a lot about the eartch are the ones who are the most conscious about how they are treating it.

Friends Judy and Andrew travel back and forth in time with the Time-A-Tron machine, looking for people they know (who are stranded in time!), clues and souvenirs. This time, they land 4,500,000,000 years ago, before dinosaurs and most animals lived. Fun time-travel adventure series that appeals to 2nd and 3rd graders and teaches them science facts as they read. Short appendix with more information and online resources.
