FOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. Decimus Rex has been kidnapped and taken to an arena in Rome; intent on escaping from captivity, he knows he must outshine his fellow slaves, endure the trials set before him and never give up hope of escape--what he does not know is that this is just the beginning of his troubles.
Book 2 in a series but easily accessible if you haven't read book 1.
I'm not sure what age group would be suited the most to the story. It reads as a lot younger than the violence in the story would usually be aimed for. I have a feeling the activities in the back of book would excite a child more than the story does.
After surviving several trials at the hands of his captors, Decimus Rex and Olu Umbika escape the arena. Little does Decimus Rex know that he wasn't taken as a slave because of his parents debts, but he was chosen for a special purpose by Grand Master Slavious Doom.
Book two in this series for younger children. I still think it misses its mark a little. Too easy a read for older children, it nevertheless seems a little violent for new readers. Maybe a good one for boys of about 8 or 9 who are not confident readers as it gives them an interesting and accessible story. The extras at the back of the book are fun.
Really enjoyed reading this too my son, but the story is really good and there was an actual poly twist, I am actually looking forward to the 3rd book.
