This book was a bit outdated and it had very basic practical tips. I don't feel like I learned too much from reading it, and a lot of it was not applicable to my journey... Or yours probably... But it did have a bunch of great resources in it, and if this idea of single parenthood is new and unexpected, it offers great encouragement!

It's fine; it covers a huge range of topics. That said, I doesn't say anything one couldn't just intuit with common sense. Maybe there isn't anything helpful to say on the topic.

This book is a MUST HAVE for all single mothers by either choice or circumstance. I became a single mother through unforeseen circumstances. I grew up being raised by both my mother and father so I could not look to my upbringing as a source of reference on how to raise a child by myself. Why would one need this book? Well first of all, if you were clueless like me on what to do, then you need this book. Other reasons are ones you may not have even thought of, like:

What to know about custody and co-parenting, dating again, handling ex-relations, what to do if your child has special needs, how to address well-intentioned folks who say mindless things about your being a single-mother and the list goes on! That's why it's called the "Complete Single Mother" because it addresses nearly every FACET of child rearing and motherhood that one could encounter.

I truly LOVED this book. The language is clear is easy to understand. The way the book reads is like one friend addressing another. There's even various places throughout the book that list various "Single Moms of Note". This is great because in these little sections in the book, you will discover famous women who you may have not know were actually SINGLE MOTHERS. One of the ones I discovered was Margaret Sanger, the woman who brought birth control to the U.S. These little sections are inspiring to read because sometimes one can feel like they are alone on their journey as a single mother and to hear stories about other mothers who still raised their children and made an impact on the world was a nice additional touch to this written work.

Covers a lot of ground, from divorce to widowhood to intentional single parenthood. A pretty balanced look at some major aspects of life. I don't know if it really impressed how hard it can be for single parents to go it alone without help from others or an extended family. A web of support is a MUST. I was a little uncomfortable with how flippantly the book dealt with single parenthood by choice, trotting out some stock studies about well adapted children or something similar. Unless you're swimming in cash, I think single parenthood will look a lot more like surviving and less like thriving.

I love that this book touches upon most situations women can find themselves in as a single mother. It addresses many lifestyles and gives good advice/support. I love the section where it defines baby's fathers -my ex is the Cowboy. :)

Stupidest book I've ever read (Okay, I just did a really thorough skim). Completely illogical and dangerous.
