Polar bear cub Kallik and her brother, Taqqiq, live in a cozy den nestled into the side of a snowy hill. Their mother, Nisa, tells them stories of the great world beyond their little den: stories of other bears, endless snow, and flecks of ice in the sky called stars. Kallik and Taqqiq can't wait to explore everything, though Nisa says they're still too little to venture out. But when the two cubs sneak out one day, they discover some startling new things about life in the wild and make a new friend—whose life may be in danger!
Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having a great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior, shaped by her interest in astronomy and standing stones.
Kallik and her twin brother Taqqiq live with their mother Nisa who provides for and protects them and tells them stories of The First Bear who lived in the sky. Kallik and Taqqiq are too little to leave the den, but their mother lets them out to see the world before tucking them back in as she goes hunting. But the curious cubs don't stay put for long and end up running into a strange bear with no legs and speaks a different language. What they don't realize, even as they play and make friends with the new bear they dubbed Muddy, is that this bear is actually a walrus. Adult walrus's are dangerous to small bear cubs and walrus's are food for big ice bears.
It's short and to the point. This one is a little more exciting than the last one, but is a little more harsh about the struggles of survival. Given that this one is about polar bears, I can see why.
Low three stars. Much like Toklo’s Story, this book is unnecessary. Unlike Toklo’s story, I don’t think it adds anything to the overall Seekers story.
The art is the same as the last one: very good and cute, but all the bears look the same, especially Kallik and Taqqiq.
I also wasn’t impressed by the story. It was ok. It was there to be cute, and not much else. It was nice to see Nisa, but we didn’t get anything interesting or new from her or her cubs, so I don’t think there’s anything of relevance in this story.
I don’t have many thoughts on this because it doesn’t add anything to Seekers, in my opinion.
This book was a intriguing manga that you can see the pictures of what is happening. Kallik and her sibling Taqqiq meet a tusked walrus friend and start to play, but the mother sees and attacks them. Nisa, the mischievous cubs' mother comes to save their lives. many other events in the adventure Kallik takes are really detailed.
I loved it! I have not read Seekers yet, but this manga made me want to! The only negative point was that it was really short but sweet as a cupcake. I enjoyed the art, especially the eyes, they made the animals more expressive.
This book was about kallik and his sibling going with her mamma out to see how bears life are and to learn to hunt. They find a new friend whose mamma attacks them and they find a new home. I like this book because it's adventurous and when I saw it it made me curious about it.
