Clayton King has spoken to two-million-plus people in 30 countries, including hundreds of thousands in the teen-to-thirties age group. Inspiring, humorous, energetic, he presents Christianity’s unchanging core message with new vividness and passion. In Dying to Live , he challenges Christians to throw aside the “bigger, richer, more successful” paradigm and risk following Christ unreservedly. Readers will freshly see the joy of laying their lives down for the gospel as Clayton… Believers hungering for a life that’s worth dying for will be electrified by this passionate call to the bold virtues of living all-out for God, risking death, knowing their life is significant and their future is secure.
God really used this book to help me spend time resting in Him and confirming my beliefs. Sometimes we can begin to doubt our interpretation of what God has shown or told us. Throughout this book, I was strengthened and encouraged in my confidence concerning my faith and convictions. It read like a conversation and was exactly what I needed right now!
I’ve read 3 other books(Stronger, Overcome and Reborn) by my friend Clayton King and they were ALL fantastic! After reading this book, I felt Dying to Live was a great paradox to explore and examine the meaning of in order for us to have a blueprint on how to give the life He has given us and give it back to Him full!
Clayton's book reserves a special place as being a formidable part of my spiritual formation earlier on in my life and one will find many great principles and clear practical points about living to follow Jesus Christ.
Clayton King’s Dying To Live is a book that will challenge you to understand and grasp how Jesus’ command to die to ourselves causes us to live. It’s a challenge to completely go against the culture of uplifting ourselves. Instead, doing what Jesus commands by dying to ourselves so that we may live.
Clayton writes his book using humor, stories, and even is transparent with some of his own struggles in order to communicate and drive home this understanding.
This is an easy to read and follow book designed for people seeking Jesus, new followers, and veteran followers alike. You will find yourself flying through the pages as you become challenged to take your relationship with Jesus to another level.
His chapter entitled “Sin Manager vs. Selfless Martyr” is powerful and will be freeing for a lot of people who are severely struggling with sin. This chapter in itself is worth the read.
Clayton’s comparison of gaining spiritual discipline to exercising muscles or running is brilliant. It’s a simile that I’ll be using for others that I disciple.
After reading, you’ll have a whole new outlook on doubting Thomas.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of Jesus’ phrase “Take up your cross.”
And you’ll be challenged to die to yourself daily so that you can live.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is wrestling with this paradox from Jesus. I recommend this book to anyone looking to further their relationship with Jesus Christ. This is a book that you’d be smart to read and refer to again and again.
