Readers become writers, and Christina has always been a reader. Ultimately she discovered she liked to read romance best because the relationship between a man and a woman is always humorous. A woman wants world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants a Craftsman router, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will make his bald spot disappear. When Christina’s first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be? Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before she was published. Now her suspense, paranormal, historical, and mystery novels have been translated into 30 languages and sold more than 15 million copies in print. Praised for her “brilliantly etched characters, polished writing, and unexpected flashes of sharp humor that are pure Dodd” (Booklist), her award-winning books have landed on numerous Best of the Year lists and, much to her mother's delight, Dodd was once a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, where her 700 lavender plants share the yard with her husband’s various “Big Projects,” including a treehouse, zipline, and their very own Stonehenge. Enter Christina’s worlds and join her mailing list for humor, book news and entertainment (yes, she’s the proud author with the infamous three-armed cover) at christinadodd.com. Her legions of fans know that when they pick up a Christina Dodd book, they'll find the story, "Wildly entertaining, wickedly witty!" Christina is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.
Since this is a two-book volume, I had different ratings for each story. The first, Trouble in High Heels, is 4-star material. I really enjoyed reading it, especially enjoyed the Italian jewel-thief. The second, Tongue in Chic, only gets 3 stars. It starts out confusing, but definitely picks up towards the end. Both stories do a good job of making the reader second-guess everything about the characters and the storyline. Fun!
Alright, at first glance, these two books look unrelated. In fact, I was sortof wondering why they were called part of a series. There is a reason for this actually. You see, a long time ago a man with a busted zipper and missing button visited many women with open arms and fly, leaving them with gifts that took 9 months to mature. Yep; the two heroes are a couple of his "gifts". And...since technically this is a twofer, I'll make comments on each one.
Book the first... I think perhaps she should have held out a bit longer. Although...his coming to a prominent law office while wearing a dragon costume was a pretty decent grovel I guess. Still, he coerced her to well, visit the shady underbelly (where he was essentially undercover), while she was supposed to be keeping him out of trouble. She had no idea what he was doing; she saw it at face value.
Book the second...I hate it when authors make artist types ditzes, though I think this was the first commune-raised h I didn't want to smack. Then again, she was at times either dumb or wearing blinders. Some irony that the H's last name was Fitzwilliam, particularly in light of his origins.
I really loved this book. I was looking for a contemporary romance with some suspense and this DEFINITELY gave me what I wanted. I loved the loose connection between the books with the half brothers and how they all are in some way connected to each other through their father and his misdeeds. I loved the romance between both brothers and their significant others!
Incredible depiction of the french quarter and complex characters that span generations. The struggle to break a cycle can be one of the most difficult goals.
