“A must-read addition to the urban fantasy genre, filled both with action and satisfying characters.”—Kim Harrison “Jocelynn Drake will have you coming back for more.”—Jeaniene Frost Vampire enforcer Mira must thwart the malevolent schemes of an ancient coven in the fifth action-packed Dark Days novel from New York Times bestselling author Jocelynn Drake. Wait for Dusk is gripping, stellar urban fantasy in the vein of Kim Harrison and Vicki Pettersson, with enough sensual heat to enthrall readers of Christine Feehan, J. R. Ward, and Jeaniene Frost.
New York Times Bestselling author Jocelynn Drake loves a good story, whether she is reading it or writing one of her own. Over the years, her stories have allowed her to explore space, talk to dragons, dodge bullets with assassins, hang with vampires, and fall in love again and again.

Much better than the previous book. This was from Mira's POV, as it should be. It's basically all about her being a badass in Europe and getting rid of naturi. She's mainly in Budapest for the book, solving the problems of the naturi and why the city isn't so great. Lots of action, bloodshed, fighting. I thoroughly enjoyed how bloodthirsty Mira always is. It's a delight. Also fun, Valerio and Stefan are key characters in this book. They're both interesting and Valerio is witty. The best part to me was the ending, so very very bloody.
WTF is with the sex-twister game on this cover? Thank GOD for Kindle.
This series is WAY more adventure and VIOLENCE especially than romance, just FYI. I skipped the last book for some reason and just wanted to get this off my Kindle, but picking it up cold after not reading the series for a year, I actually really enjoyed it. I love books where the hero and heroine break up after getting together though, so it's a fun read as far as the romance goes, but this is just a pretty badass series where vampires are really violent and brutal and evil to each other. Very Underworld-y in tone, so if you're looking for that type of book, def check this out. It's dark and dripping and I like it! The lore-building can get a bit confusing, but oh well, just skip to another scene where blood is gushing out like a geyser and you're cool.
The fifth installment of the Dark Days series is Wait for Dusk, or as I like to call it . And I have got to say, this is the best one yet.
As our book begins, Mira is being tortured by the entity who kidnapped her at the end of Pray for Dawn. But it's not an old witch woman kicking her ass... It turns out to be her "real" father, who claims to be Satan himself. Daddy's got a mission for Mira. He wants her to learn to take control of Danaus and Jebari's powers. And he gives her a power-upgrade so she has the ability to do it. This is a bit of a mixed bag for our vampire heroine. She finally has the juice to turn the tables on the two men who have been pulling her strings over the course of the last few books. But she's not completely on board with the idea because 1) she is sort-of in love with Danaus and 2) she is scared Jebari will wipe the floor with her. Dad's not giving her much of a choice in the matter.
Mira is summoned back to Venice to be officially indoctrinated into the Coven. And she brings Danaus as back-up. She knows she's facing the threat of death from fellow coven-member Macaire. And sure enough, he orchestrates a trip for her to Budapest, where he has set the wheels in motion for her death to occur. Of course, Mira's smarter and tougher than anyone gives her credit for. And not only does she have Danaus at her back, she's got Valerio and Stefan with her too. There's a fairly good plot arc about the intrigue in Budapest. But to me, the most interesting is the subplot surrounding Mira and Danaus' evolving relationship. And now that her allegiance to him is clear in the vampire world, he is becoming her Achilles heel. Mira's emotions are so fragile where he is concerned. And there was more than one time in the story where, I too, thought he abandoned her.
But holy cow, when these two finally get their act together.... I think I read at least 5 times. In a row. Then when the book was over, I went back and read it again. It was that hot. Plus, I needed the distraction from the heart-wrenching ending. For as high as I got on the romance action, Jocelynn Drake shredded me utterly with . Even when Mira finally wins one, she still loses. 5 stars.
Longer review may come soon, but for now I will say the cover MORE than lived up to its hype and the nonstop action and tension had my flying through every page, eager for more! And now the year long wait begins again.
Now THIS cover makes me very happy! Lots of steamy possibilities! (FINALLY!)
Wait For Dusk is the fifth Dark Days novel by Jocelynn Drake. I've been addicted to this series from book one, begging for each new release. This book was no different. I could not wait to read this book, especially considering how Pray for Dawn ended. Can you say major cliff hanger? So I picked up this book last night, and finished it a few hours later. I could not sleep until I knew how it ended!
This time, we're back to Mira's point of view. She's not an Elder and she's begging to burn something. Being the "fire starter" it's no surprise, and I love it. Pray for Dawn left off when Gaizka snatched Mira. Now she's being beaten by who she thinks is Gaizka, who turns out not to be Gaizka at all. The being beating her, is way worse, with violet eyes and Red hair, and he's only the beginning of her trouble. He wants something from her, and he's determined to get it.
If that's not bad enough, She's practically declared war on one of the Elders and while on a visit to get rid of the Naturi with Danaus, Stefan and Valerio, she finds out more want her head than she first thought. Now she's fighting for control and her life along with her friends, and her heart is begging for something that might never be. The tension between Danaus & Mira is accelerating, as they struggle to find a center for themselves. Mira has more under her belt than usual, and it's only just begun.
I loved Wait for Dusk. It's full of action with a powerful punch. With a cover full of heat! I've gave 5 stars for everyone book in this series, and this book was no different. Do you love Vampires? Me: Check. Urban fantasy? Me: Check. Romance? Me: Check. and plenty of action? Me: Check. Then go down to the book store, right now, and pick this series up. You will NOT regret it!
After being summoned by the Coven to claim her seat as an Elder, Mira learns of a growing Naturi threat in Budapest. When her rival Macaire, another Elder, suggests she travel there to dispatch the Naturi, she knows she is stepping into a trap but must go anyway for the good of her people. While two other nightwalkers set out with her, she knows she can only truly count on Danaus, her hunter companion. With her own kind afraid of her, her past coming to haunt her and the threat from Macaire, Mira is yet again in for the fight of her life. She needs Danaus now more than ever and his betrayal ultimately risks her fragile hold onto her sanity.
While the slow progression of Mira and Danaus' relationship has been frustrating as a reader, it has been realistic considering they started out as mortal enemies trying to kill each other. The two make major progress in their relationship in this novel. Avid fans, myself included, have been begging to see "angry wall sex" between Mira and Danaus and this book will not disappoint. Drake sure knows how to make the heat between the two of them almost reach the boiling point. However, after seeing into Danaus's head in the previous book, Pray for Dawn, and his deep feelings for Mira, his betrayal came at a complete shock. Even though he is conflicted over her since he believes nightwalkers are evil, I would have never believed he could ultimately betray her. In the end, it makes sense since the only thing that could bring him down would be his greatest weakness, humans. As if the betrayal wasn't enough, she has no choice but fall into Macaire's trap, and must come to terms with the dark secrets from her past. Poor Mira never gets a break and everything seems to be thrown at her at once. While her hold on sanity may be tenuous at times, any other character would have long crumbled under the pressure. Her fortitude and determination to protect her people makes Mira such an admirable character and this book will leave you desperate for more.
Drake does it again! With various lycanthropes, warlocks, vampires, naturi and bori all wanting Mira dead, she has more than her hands full. What’s a fire starter to do?
Thank heavens for Danaus, an honest-to-goodness vampire slayer with unusual powers of his own who just so happens to be on Mira’s side. Go figure! With their powers entwined—when needed—countless friends ready to help…and even a few “associates”, add to that an endless supply of rage, and you have the makings for one hell of a fight!
Mira’s father is Satan himself—goes by the name of Nick—enjoys torturing her in very special and colorful ways. Having the ability to use and manipulate fire, I guess she’s her father’s daughter. Seriously though, in this continuation from “Pray for Dawn”, Drake kept me on the edge of my seat once again. Putting this book down was nothing short of the same torture her characters endured on this fabulous journey she’s created.
No one does it better than Jocelynn Drake. Only she could make a romance between a vampire and slayer and make it believable, beautiful and fun to read.
Thank you, Jocelynn, for showing me what vampires can do and what they’re about. Thank you for weaving together a great tale of danger, intrigue, violence, loyalty, sacrifice and love. I have a new genre to read and add to my quickly growing repertoire. I can’t wait for the next book!

Out of all the books in the Dark Days series, this one is the absolute best by far. Wait for Dusk had me on an emotional roller coaster throughout the whole book! My emotions ran the gambit of stomach dropping dismay, being royally pissed to extremely happy. Can't wait for the next book, which I read on Jocelynn Drake's message board maybe the last book in this series. This makes me sad but also at the same time, glad to know that there will an ending to Mira's story.
If your a lover of dark, sit-on-the-edge of your seat adventure that contains lore from the fae to vampires with it's own unique spin, this book (actually series) is for you! But please, please start from the beginning of this series if you haven't yet. Because I've been reading this series since book one, Wait for Dusk had the meaning that it had for me. You won't be sorry. So come on, jump on this roller coaster ride with me.
Seriously, someone beat this writer with an editing stick. My new favorite dangling participle of the series: "Walking down the path, the glass in the nearby lamppost exploded into flames." Clever glass to be able to walk down the path and explode in flames at the same time. Drake's publisher should be mortified that this series made it into print in this shape, especially since the storyline warrants a decent editor and publication, just in a form that remotely resembles Standard American English.
I'm done. I'm done with this series. JUST FUCKING TALK TO EACH OTHER! You're over a thousand years old and you're idiots whenever it's serves to move the plot forward. This book added nothing to the series outside of the first and last chapters it was just pointless overwrought blood bath after chin dripping blood bath. Just stop. This series has gone for slaughter the way Laurell K Hamilton went for group sex. You're adding nothing to the story line that was initially fascinating except that you're making me hate the characters I originally enjoyed.
(4.5 stars) Okay, I can’t help it. I have to start with this awful cover art. Not only do Mira and Danaus have no legs, the cover isn’t an accurate representation of the contents. Yes, there’s sex in Wait for Dusk. No, it’s not as predominant as this cover would imply. A more fitting cover would have shown Mira with a fireball in one hand and a big bloody knife in the other.
Having read the first four DARK DAYS novels, I was expecting Wait for Dusk to follow the pattern of books two, three, and four: namely, a slow-build start with lots of politics and posturing, leading up to an action-filled finish. To my surprise (and pleasure), there’s not a slow moment in Wait for Dusk. There are a few scenes of politicking, but they’re short and have immediate, tangible consequences.
Wait for Dusk begins just a few minutes after the cliffhanger ending of Pray for Dawn. We’re back in Mira’s head, and she has just been whisked away from the scene of the battle by a powerful entity. We learn that this entity is actually Mira’s real father, a really nasty fellow, who gives her a task she doesn’t think she can refuse, then returns her to her home. Later, Mira is summoned to Venice to officially take her seat on the vampire coven. Her enemy Macaire assigns her to clean up a mess in Budapest, so she travels there with Danaus and with vampires Stefan and Valerio, who each have agendas of their own. Mira is pretty sure that this is a trap, but she’s determined to make it an opportunity instead.
Mira opens up a big can of Machiavelli as she cuts a swath through Budapest’s supernatural community, showing us just how she’s managed to survive 600 years as a nightwalker. Her actions don’t necessarily make her more sympathetic per se, but they’re realistic and they’re terrific character development. We keep rooting for her because the alternatives are worse. Mira may be a bitch, but she’s our bitch.
At the same time, Mira’s actions help drive a wedge between her and Danaus, throwing a heartbreaking conflict into Mira’s life just when she least has time for it. As you might have guessed from the clinch cover, Wait for Dusk is the make-or-break book for the Mira/Danaus relationship. Jocelynn Drake has built up this relationship from the very first scene of Nightwalker, with some books advancing it and others retreating from it, and here we learn whether they “will” or “won’t.”
The book is filled with action and violence, and every fight is consequential to the main plot in addition to being exciting. Jocelynn Drake builds to a big ending and then delivers it. No cliffhangers here. There’s plenty of trouble ahead for Mira and friends, but Wait for Dusk ends on a satisfying note. This is the first DARK DAYS book that’s really recaptured the explosive energy that defined Nightwalker, and to my mind it’s even better than that first installment. Ignore the cover and snap this one up.
Only one small caveat: There have always been a few copy editing mistakes in these books, but this is the first time it’s really been distracting. There’s a sentence that talks about the death of Character A, who is actually still alive at that point in the book. I thought maybe I’d missed something, but no, Character A appears, still kicking, a few scenes later. It’s Character B who’s dead and who I think was supposed to be mentioned in that sentence.
Doing a reread of the series (again).Still in my top five :-) I really don't know how to rate this book. I really don't. I loved it, hated it all at the same time. I was heartbroken near the end and that is where my problem rating this book. I have loved this series and was addicted by the first book but I swear this book almost broke me. I was soo disappointed with the hunter and what had started in this book that I was ready to put this book down.I'm a coward and the thought of Mira getting her heart ripped out, didn't appeal me. I was done with the hunter and a small part of me, still is. I know people are excited with the ending and I guess I was too. I;m starting the next and final book in the series and hope my feelings for him will improve. He's still got things to make for up (my two cents). I would recommend this series to anyone. It's a great series and I only wish that there was more books to come.......
The action in this book was amazing. I love Mira. At times I was a bit confused at how emotional she has become. I'm not sure if I just am not remembering the last book so well. But, she felt extremely emotional, more so than ever before. Her anger is something I am used to and her expression of that anger is obviously a very hot thing. But, this was more a sadness. It was very palpable and well deserved. She has been through a lot in her 600 years and so much in this book alone. There are a few curve balls thrown here and boy they were way out there, but, she makes them work.
I was pretty happy with the path that Mira's friendship is taking with Danaus, but, I really love Valerio. I wonder if in their centuries of going back and forth whether they ever loved each other. Their friendship seems to run pretty deep. His ability to blink in and out is something I though was only his power. I just realized that it was a power of the ancients. It is hilarious to me that a 600 year old vampire is not considered an ancient, just an old vampire.
The final book Burn the Night is going to be awesome. I sure hope to see more from Jocelynn Drake in a new series. She is a very imaginative writer who has great vision.
Another fantastic book by Jocelyn Drake. You never fail to please. Your "Dark Days" novels are superb and never fail to keep my undivided attention.
In Wait for Dusk, Mira is faced with the task of eradicating every Naturi from Budapest. However, this task is not nearly as easy to accomplish with the hit on her head. Someone is determined to kill her along with her companions, and it's everything she can do to keep them safe.
Meanwhile, there's trouble brewing between Mira and Danaus when a human woman comes to Danaus begging for her life and freedom of the nightwalker Veyron. Mira refuses to aid her, but Danaus is determined to be her savior. Will a human woman be the permanent rift between them both?
I liked seeing new alliances form and Mira's growth I her powers. Though I'd prefer it if she weren't being forced by her Devil-of-a-Father to utilize said powers like she does.
Mira has grown so much as a person and guardian to those who she has sworn to protect. And at times, even to those not under her protection. I cat wait to see how relationships progress and to witness the final battle between the Naturi and Nightwalkers/every other supernatural creature that doesn't want to die by Naturi hands.

I read the first book and I wasn't so sure I would like it. I then signed up to Jocelynn's website and joined to get notifications and follow her to see what's going on. Anyway, I wanted to read the second book to see if I liked it or not. I sometimes can't tell how a series will be just by reading the first book. I couldn't stop so before I knew it I had read the fifth book. Then I was sad because I couldn't find another book in the series. I absolutely love Mira. I find Herr to be another bad ass woman with extraordinary power. I was sad when her son dad, that's what I will call him anyway. He was the vampire she took. I found she was a vampire that could also love. She even took Nick and he wasn't a vampire but a shapeshifter ware. I was surprised that Mira had sex with him. I found it sad in some ways because she had a daughter also and a girl comes along Mira takes in and she ends up killed from the battle. She was extremely overwhelmed with grief because it was like losing a child all over again. I cant wait to see what will happen with the vampire hunter and her and for them to finallysee they are falling for each other. Wonderful book and series.
I love you, Jocelynn Drake, but the cover art here is just awful. This book is totally not a sexy romance bodice ripping blah blah blah. I'd rather see Mira & Danaus with some weapons - especially since this whole series is more about the politics & violence of the supernatural world than the "one hand read" this cover makes it look like. I'd describe the whole series as a "vampire war story" rather than paranormal romance. The vampires are at war amongst themselves, at war with the naturi & bori...
I really enjoy the Dark Days series much more than I thought I would. I like my vampires bloody, violent, tempermental, and yeah - sensitive to the damn sun and NOT sparkly.
"Wait for Dusk" is officially my favorite book so far in the Dark Days series. I couldn't but the book down with all the amazing drama, sexual tension, and fight scenes. I can't wait for the next book now, the possibles are endless.
In the fifth book of The Dark Days series, the Naturi are rallying for the final battle; Mira is gathering together her allies for the confrontation—and at the worst time, she’s betrayed by her most trusted friend.
Well, a lot of questions get answered for this one and a lot of problems get solved. Minor spoilers without the names here next.
Somebody gets his place on the coven as promised, somebody FINALLY gets to have some sexy times, lots of people get murdered (including my favorite character, sadly) and it’s all blood and violence. VIOLENCE. I mean, I think this is probably one of the more gruesome tales in the series.
Regardless, this one was exciting. And again, violent. There are so many battles. I wish I could write action scenes as smoothly as Jocelynn Drake can. The only one I’ve ever had trouble understanding was in her last book, Pray For Dawn and that was the very last scene. This one had like eight different bloodbaths and I could easily see what was happening. I envy that talent.
I think she had some references to Bound To Me as well in this book, referring to her time with Valerio at grand parties (which was the basic set up for the novella). I like that Valerio can still make her blush with his teasings. And Stefan – lots of aggression there, no doubt. The way both men take off their nice jackets before ripping their enemies apart is fun. I think it’s cute that Mira could care less about her clothing getting bloodied compared to them.
And damn, it’s about time that we have come to the part that I’m sure readers like me have been waiting for. SEX. I was like “woo-hoo” you two finally got over yourselves and just had some fun. Multiple times. Wink wink.
But sad face to my favorite character dying. No spoilers here unless you look at my reviews for the other books. I was really stunned by this sudden change in events though I was aware there would be a lot of deaths to spur Mira onto vengeance.
This is a wonderful set up to the final book in the series. Lots of action, some romantic scenes between vampire hunter Danaus and Mira, and new characters that may bring a big change to the tide of battle.
If all of the Dark Days novels "Wait for Dusk was my least favorite. Why? Because this book was 'filler.' It mostly had no other purpose than to extend the life of the series for profit. Let me be clear, yes, there were some important events that occurred but most of these could have been added on to the previous book or the future book. What truly irritated me most was the addition of a character that really was convoluted and truly not needed. No. I can't divulge who but I will say that Mira has enough on her hands dealing with Jabari, Macaire, the naturi, Ryan and Rowe; so to add another villain at this point is simply redundant.
What I did enjoy about this read is that Mira and Danaus finally hook up. After four previous books of involving sexual tension between these characters, it was high time they realized they potential. With Mira's strength as the ultimate heroine who else is worthy of her affection?
There were more problems with this read than the others. Considering this is book five, Rowe, Elizabeth and Ryan should have been dealt with by now. Yet, I can't shake the feeling that this book's sole purpose was to extend the series. Oh well, every series has a least favorite read and this was definitely mine. Now for book six, the finale.
This book was utterly infuriating! I want to smack the fuck outta Mira and Danaus the whole way.
I hated Danaus the whole time. NOTE TO AUTHOR.. That's not sexual tension. That is kiling your readers softly by making your fave couple act like they TWEENS! Authors don't do that to adults!
It's like neither one could get their heads screwed on straight, and while we are at it, lets bring in a stupid sweet young thing to turn Danaus away from Mira. In all his 1800 years existence I guess he still leads with his cock.
Bah... If their weren't but only one book left in there series, I'd just stop; but since there is one book left, I'll stick it out. Oh and another FYI Author finally having sex doesn't clean up the mess that you have made of this book and this couple.
I was hooked from Page 1. Jocelynn Drake has the soul of a poet and brilliant, expressive ways of rewriting hack-neyed, overused language. She is a joy to read.
Page 1 opens with Mira taking a horrible beating from a supernatural being claiming to be her real biological father. Mira is defenseless and can do nothing to protect herself. We learn that he is the devil and that he has multiple children, with Mira showing the most promise for his personal use. He wants her to learn to use Danaus' and Jabari's powers to increase her own. If she doesn't, he will return her to her mortal state and impregnate her (eeee-yewww!) in order to get a better result from his grandchild (oh, yuck yuck, yuck!!!).
In the meantime, the Coven calls Mira back to Europe to take her rightful seat. Danaus accompanies Mira as her "Consort" which gives him the status to attend meetings of the Coven with Mira. This is a good thing.
The Coven court intrigue ultimately sends Mira and Danaus to Budapest where the vampires have no leader. Mira is sent under the auspices of killing the naturi who are gathering there and consolidating the vampire heirarchy and power base. A feat she is expected to fail at.
While she is in Budapest bringing order of chaos (and it is bloody and heartless), Mira begins to consolidate her power base with the vampires Stefan (an almost-Ancient) and Valerio (already an Ancient)--both of whom have accompanied her and have been double-crossed by members of the Coven. They are met with murder, betrayal, mayhem, and lies of all sorts.
All throughout, her demon father makes appearances and threatens her. While Mira tells Danaus some of this, she doesn't tell Danaus everything--something I fear will come back to haunt her when Danaus finds out the full truth. Worse, Mira is forced to act on her evil father's will, tapping into Danaus' powers, and finally Jabari's, to vanquish an Ancient member of the Coven. Both Danaus and Jabari can feel her accessing their powers. Even though Danaus is not happy about it, he ultimately trusts her enough to give her permission when she needs it. Jabari, though, now has no reason to keep Mira alive and he is deadly furious with her.
This book sets up what will be coming in the rest of the series. There are many fascinating plot lines to be developed. How will she rid the world of her evil father? She is the fire-starter, but has she inherited other powers from the devil locked away from her by Jabari and Sadira? Who is the liege lord anyway? How will the conflict between her and Jabari end? What about the naturi who are gathering all throughout the world for another showdown? Gaizka, the horribly evil bori, has been shut away, and can only be freed by joint soul-obliterating power of Danaus and Mira. But what of Danaus? He has certain powers, but he has hasn't accepted his Bori half and potential powers that may come with that. And what will happen when he discovers that Mira has used his power to appease her wicked father?
Mira has both a soft side and a hard side. Through her hard side, she brought order and peace to her hometown of Savannah--thus keeping down murder and mayhem among the vampires. She is asked to do the same thing in Budapest. Yes, it's harsh. Yes, she has no remorse. But, yes, it's absolutely necessary. It is a superb insight into her history and her own growth.
In one of the final showdowns in the book, Mira is forced to make an unimaginable short-term alliance with a feared enemy to survive a deadly situation. This again speaks to her intelligence and pragmatism.
I hate heroes and heroines who are so conflicted about what needs that they make all the wrong choices and sometimes can't get it done until it's too late and the cost is too high. Mira doesn't do that. She doesn't second guess herself. She may not like it, but she does it. This is what makes her a great heroine and fighter.
I love smart heroines who give no quarter. I also love heroines who are loyal to those whom they love and will do anything to protect them. She is also compassionate, funny, and temperamental. Danaus hurts her time and time again, but she is constant and doesn't hold grudges. Mira is a great heroine.
This book is filled with intrigue, danger, heartbreak, exploration, new relationships, old relationships, and all the things have been made the series an outstanding one. All of these books are bloody and gory and this is no exception. If you don't like violence and blood, then be forewarned, because you won't like it.
If you understand the necessity of blood gore to an intensively driven plot and character development, don't miss it!
This book is a complete knockout. Wow! Seriously, constant action and passion thru'out the entire book from the first page where Mira was kidnapped(continued right where the previous book left off. "My left knee had been shattered and my right leg was broken. My internal organs were swimming in my own blood, bruised, punctured, and damaged. My jaw felt fractured and my eyes were nearly swollen shut." This is literally the first page, no kidding.), till the last few pages where Mira was decapitating and eradicating one really annoying pain-in-the-ass vamp/nightwalker("My fist punctured his breast plate and went straight to his heart...I screamed in pain and triumph as i wrapped my fingers around his shrivelled heart and slowly pulled it free of his chest."). Whoo! A knockout!
I love the constant thrill and the battles that Mira gets caught up in or starts thru'out the book(and, really, every page has at least half of it splashed with bloody battle scenes - other than that one very short but sweet, passionate and physical part involving Danaus and Mira:X Big spoiler!). Drake managed to keep me clutching onto the book because of her awesome way of illustrating those phenomenal, gruesome fights and skirmishes that is part and parcel of Drake's world of nightwalkers(and other less desirable creatures). Even tho the first 4 books had no romance in it whatsoever, there were little hints and touches of it that would nudge any romance lovers/fans to continue reading - Well, it certainly nudged me, all right(nudged me hardXP)
I love the fact that Mira continues to stay strong and independent(especially in this fight in the end where she enters the "battleground" all alone and managed it like a pimple - cool girl's power!). The problems that she faced, and the whole well of emotions that she feels and bottles up in herself is really overwhelming that it suffocates me as well, but she managed to pent and suck it all up. She is really powerful and is one kick-ass hot womanBD (i sound like a perv:/)
Danaus was rather...ambiguous about his feelins towards Mira initially- even tho it was all rather cleared up in the prequel where it was written in his POV, but well, i kinda pity Mira. His sort-of betrayal was really heart wrenching i wanted to plunge my hand in there and start slapping Danaus upside down to knock some sense into him. Mira's practically throwing herself at him already and yet he still holds onto his stupid doubts that(this is gonna sound REALLY cliche) they weren't meant to be together. L.A.M.E. hahaha
Anyway, Valerio and Stefan were both really prominent characters in this book in the series. Both were Ancients with skills and a bloodlust(and a bit of OCD- what with the need to fold and tuck away their expensive coats before a fight/massacre safely) that was strangely, winningly charming(if there's such a word:/). I've come to know them quite well:). Who knew the cool, calm Stefan had a close female-assistance? And i stress "close" and "female".:)
To sum it up, this is not your average love-triangle-ly vampire novel/series. There wasn't as much love and intimate physical activitie popping up everywhere as most vamp novels would have, and is definitely on for those action-seekers and thrill-seeking fans of the fantasy genre. I absolutely loved this one, the slow building passion between the characters, and this would be the only vamp novel i have read so far that i would recommend to my friends. I seriously cannot wait for the last and final instalment of this series, which is set to be released on June 28, 2011!! Cheers, Drake! For another gruesomely tastey novel:)

Wait for Dusk picks up right after Pray for Dawn. At the very end of Pray for Dawn, Mira was taken by some unknown entity. Well at the opening of Wait for Dusk we discover that it was Mira's father that took her. More appropriately would be to call him her sire as he wasn't the actual person to raise Mira just impregnate her mother. He calls himself "Nick" which basically points us directly to Satan as being Mira's biological father. He wants her to start living up to her full potential otherwise he will deem her a waste and use her in order to conceive a more willing progeny. When he says live up to her potential he means the fact that Mira (who to this point is able to be used by both Jabari and Danaus) can turn that power around and use the other two instead. Nick wants Mira to hone this skill. He leaves at that with the threat that he's keeping an eye on her.
Mira in turn is summoned to Venice to appear before the coven and be acknowledged in her new role as Elder. First she needs to take care of the backlash of the bori attack. Mainly, Tristan. Surprisingly Tristan has survived so Mira secures his continued existence and leaves for Italy.
Upon arrival in Italy it is decided (in what Mira obviously recognizes as a trap) that Mira will head to Budapest in order to dispatch some naturi that have taken residence there. So here begins the major plot of Wait for Dusk.
Obviously there was a lot to tie up before we could start the main plot of this book, but nothing is ever forgotten in this world and previous actions can always come back into play. I really liked the mystery behind Wait for Dusk. Mira knew from the beginning that she was being set up, and I liked how Jocelynn Drake weaves us around Budapest from one twist to another until Mira has it all pieced together.
I liked the fluidity with how Mira and Danaus decided on their relationship. It was basically just a next step in something that had been building throughout the series thus far, but I liked that they still had reservations being that they come from two different sides. I liked the moments where we got to see Mira's vulnerability with this new relationship and learned more about her past in consequence. We learn that Mira has the ability to form strong attachments in romantic relationships which almost contrasts with her tough, uncaring exterior that she likes to exude to everyone else.
However, Jocelynn Drake started something when she switched to Danaus's point of view for Pray for Dawn, and here we've switched back to being only Mira's point of view. I would have liked the book to switch back between the two just in certain moments. I did like have Mira as the narrator again and between the two I like Mira's voice better, but I figure that since Drake already started this she could have kept up with a few scenes of Danaus's POV just to really get in his mind to figure out what he's thinking.
There is only one book left in the series Burn the Night. Mira is put through so much again and again and this last book leaves a lot up in the air. There's the naturi threat looming on the horizon, there's Nick, and from the beginning there have always been other vampires (namely Jabari) that want Mira dead. I just want her to finally find some peace and quiet. I guess we'll see what's in store. Until Then!
After surviving the bori, Mira was abducted by the witch who helped them seal the bori. However, she is not who she say she is; she happens to be Mira's biological father. Nick, her father, gave her powers to be able to control Danaus & Jabari. He wants her to control both of them for what he has planned.
Other than being forced to control the only person who she might want to spend time with, the coven is summoning her to take her place as Elder. As her first job as an Elder, she and the other Elders are to venture out and control the naturi problem. Mira is sent to Budapest, which doesn't have a known keeper & is said to be under the power of Macaire. Mira knows that Macaire has something planned for Mira by sending her to the city. With the help of Danaus, Stefan & Valerio, they traveled to Budapest to encounter a problem other than the naturi. The city has its own coven of magical creatures. Mira and the group needs to clean up the city and find out what Macaire is planning before their enemies kill them.
I love this book. It's super exciting. This one mainly revolves around Mira & Danaus' relationship & Mira's developing powers which are the developments that I've been waiting for. Because of the cliff hanger in Pray for Dawn, I just couldn't stop myself from immediately reading this book. Even if the majority of the plot only revolves around Budapest, it was still great! The best part was the ending. The final battle with Macaire was super awesome. Mira totally kicked-ass! She was unstoppable. I read the ending while in the car and I freaking don't care, even if, I was getting motion sickness already because it was that good! I think this is the best battle yet in the series. Also, I love the power play in the book. I've never been into power plays but I love it in this book. Mira showed them who's boss.
I love the whole turn about in the story. Mira finally has the edge she needed and the author finally revealed the origin of Mira. I've been waiting for Mira to get stronger and now she is. She managed to severe the power that Jabari and Danaus has over her. Though, she is on her father's leash now but I still don't care. I just want to know how Mira will solve this new problem.
On the relationship department, all I could say is that the plane has landed! FINALLY! After 5 books, they are an item! They've finally let go of their differences and gave their relationship a shot. It took Danaus a long long time to finally make a decision. I'm so happy for Mira, most especially now when she lost 2 important people. She needs Danaus beside her because he is the only one she could trust. I do hope that the relationship would just go smoothly and they'll just worry about the problems at hand.
In addition to that, I love Valerio and Stefan. I love Valerio already when he showed he cared for Mira in his own little way but I've never expected to actually like Stefan. He is just so cool. Also, he seems to have morals like Mira & Danaus and is trustworthy enough.
All in all, I'm getting quite satisfied with the series. You could actually see the improvement of the author. I just hope that the finale would be just as great.
