Hardcover book with dust jacket in very good condition. Published by Helios Book Service in 1964 and is first edition. The dust jacket is in great shape although the top edges of the are slightly rolled where the mylar protector has been pulled it and the there are wrinkles where the mylar protector has pinched it. The mylar DJ protector it probably too tight and is old as the edge tape has fallen off in places and is loose in others. The book itself has a tight binding. The page edges are a little tanned however the page faces appear to be in like new shape. There is no writing, highlighting or other markings to the pages or covers. No sign of having had a book plate. There are no torn pages but there is one page that had a bent corner at the bottom. The text is clean. The cover boards are stiff and straight The front bottom corner looks to have been bent by dropping the book, about an eighth of an inch from the corner is the crease. The cloth is in excellent condition, as is the silver lettering on the front cover and spine. Not a remainder or ex-library book.
Israel Regardie (born Francis Israel Regudy) was considered by many to be the last living Adept of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. At an early age, Regardie worked as Aleister Crowley's personal secretary. In addition to his extensive writings, Regardie practiced as a chiropractor and as a neo-Reichian therapist. He taught psychiatry at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and contributed articles to many psychology magazines.
"İnsan, dünyevi görevlerine artık bağlanma ya da iğrenmeyle karşılık vermek yerine, onları başarılı bir şekilde aşıncaya kadar enkarnasyonun gereği olarak kabul etmek zorundadır." sf 60
Great as far as it goes. After the appetizer, one yearns for the main course. The book is both a monograph and a primer, which makes it a bit hard to get a hold of it. It is intended for those who already have a grasp of the arcana but have not yet made up their minds about magic. The author argues that magic is an essential part of occultism and builds his case on the Jungian collective unconscious and the Kabbalah. He regards the Kabbalah as the bedrock of Western occultism, which, contrary to its Eastern counterpart, is interested in the individual. And the individual can be empowered by magic.
The book opens up tremendous possibilities but that it is where it stops. The book leaves you with a sense of "I want more!"
'Magic is the accumulated record of psychic and spiritual experience which we have inherited from the past, from former generations of mankind.'
This book is truly great for an initiate of the subject or anyone, in general, interested in the topic; Especially for a topic that has been so incredibly misunderstood and tainted.
It is short but concise and very thorough. I also appreciate all the mentions of other books that were referred to as it brings more awareness to other writings on the same topic.
'If magical methods reveal our secret selves more directly, and unlock the vast store of wisdom and power within our souls, showing us how to control them in ways that neither psycho-analysis nor any modern science has succeeded to do, should we not be foolish to eject its benefits?'
