Meandering, repetitive and about 50 pages too long, as so many books of this type tend to be. Still, an easy read with lots of insight and beautiful writing to be found within.
Other reviews here are correct: the most rewarding sections of the book are in the earliest chapters, and some of the anecdotes near the end are a little monotonous. Still, it's replete with good advice for the novice birder and eloquently articulates what it is about birding that makes it an enjoyable, even spiritual, pursuit.
