This one has a bit more action than the others in this series. Not a favorite of mine for different reasons, but it deals with harder topics for teens and young adults, like most Melody Carlson books.

I have not read any of the Carter House Girls series, but this didn't affect how I read this book. I fell right into the plot and in with the characters. Enough description and characterization is given that it feels like picking up a book from the beginning of the series. Things are referenced during the book, but they are brought to enough life that you understand what is going on.

First and foremost the relationships and characters in this book are paramount. It's about the relationship of the girls. As typical teenagers, they like each other one minute and don't like each other the next. DJ is the girl next door, she loves sports and she is very Christian. Taylor is a recovering alcoholic and she's trying to clean up her life and make it day by day with her new friends and her new faith. Casey is a friend of DJ but she is starting to become a little misguided. Rhiannon is feeling a little cast aside by new friendships forming and Eliza is still the princess of the group and expects everything to go her way.

This book is well-paced and between the characters and the plot, it moves very well, is easily read and very enjoyable. I look forward to reading this series from the beginning as well as reading the next book which will be out in April.

If you enjoy young adult novels that deal with girls from different walks of life and their relationships and problems they run into and tests of their faith then this is a wonderful series for you.

It was very good and I liked the plot. I was suprised at what happened but it was very good. There was definatly enough action for me and it was really a realistic book.

The more I'm reading these books, the more I'm appreciating the lessons and themes that are used throughout that are especially relevant to tweens and teen girls. Of standing up for your faith and looking out for everyone and leaning on God in all circumstances etc. Maybe not as relevant to me now at 22, but my 12/13 yr old self enjoyed them!

Although I had to say the ending with Eliza seemed a bit tenuous and felt rushed. I can see why it was included but also felt forced.

I'm just not interested in this series anymore, I think I've outgrown it. Plus, I don't tolerate overly pushy Christian aspects in books as well as I used to. I also think I may have outgrown this author, which is sad as she used to be an auto-read author for me.

MY REVIEW:

Spring Breakdown is the 7th in Melody Carlson's Carter House Girls series. To be honest, had I realized it was that far along in the series, I probably would have started with the first and worked my way up. The book did not make me feel like I did not know what was going on, but I would have preferred getting a clearer picture of the characters.

I always enjoy revisiting teen life via a good book. Reading about DJ and the other Carter House Girls adventures brought me back in that way. I liked that the girls were trying to do the right things and following their convictions with what they might wear whether at the beach or a dance and convictions against underage drinking. I wasn't crazy about the cattiness of the characters on all sides. I expected the "mean girl" to be generally portrayed as jerky, but it seemed a little stereotypical (spoiled little rich girl). I did not expect to see so much snarky and catty behavior from the characters who were talking the talk spiritually one moment and doing the slash and jab verbally later. However, all of this resolved itself in my mind, because of course we aren't perfect, and in the long run the good hearts were definitely showing through by the end.

I think this was my favorite in the series by far. I love how all the characters have really fleshed out - except for Kriti. I really feel like I don't "know" her any better now than I did at the beginning of the series. But everyone else, especially Taylor, has really grown as a character. I am sad that the next book is the last one, as I don't know how the new revelations will be wrapped up so quickly.

On another note, Conner and DJ's relationship is creepy. He is way too possessive of her, and I hope she dumps him in the last book.

It's interesting to see the dynamics between all the characters and what sort of trouble they will get themselves into next. Eventually things work out and the girls learn a lesson or two. I found myself liking certain characters because I saw more of their past and realized why they acted out. I enjoyed this series and would probably recommend.

YES! I read the 7th carter house girl book! i loved this one. All six carter house girls are on spring break...YA! But this could mean troubles while the girls are in Palm Beach Florida for a photo shoot. Like Eliza issues, boys boys boys, and of coarse the whole "u stole my boyfriend" thing. Will the carter house girls have a great spring break or will they have a "spring breakdown?"

This is by far one of my most favourite books. This gives you a very interesting perspective into the life of someone who is rich and lives with multiple other people. There are problems and fights and such that are addressed in this book plus it is written around religion and christianity which I think definitely makes it better.

I am glad my library finally got this book in. I think the Carter House girls series is getting more interesting as it moves towards the end. This book wasn't full of take home lessons, but I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to the next (and final?) installment.
