Chris Paciello seemed to have it all. With heartthrob good looks and an A-list roster of clients and friends, he was a South Beach businessman/playboy whose local fame was reaching new heights-until his -wise guy- past came crashing down upon him. When some of Chris-s former -fellas were arrested, they ratted him out to the government. One case in particular-a botched robbery that turned deadly-was a time bomb that would blow the cushy new world Chris created for himself to bits-and propel him straight back to New York City to face justice.
I don't know where Michele R. McPhee gets her courage, but she has oodles of it. She penetrated and interviewed the Brooklyn Mob and got the flavor of each neighborhood perfectly. She put me right back into the town I was born in, and had my New York coming out. What made this book so gripping, was as you read you knew everything she wrote was true and had come to pass. I like Michele's writing style, it pulls you into the book from the first paragraph.
I don't particularly recall this story from the 90's but I've never been one to follow the lives of the rich & famous either. This is the story of a small time thug growing up in NYC with ties to several of the mafia families. When things heat up he relocates to Miami to open up some of the hottest night clubs at that time, hosting big name stars and athletes. Once his past catches up with him his empire begins to crumble. This is definitely worth a read if you like that sort of thing. Many mafia stories follow a similar story line but I still find them intriguing.
