I reviewed another Angels & Demons book a while ago and fell in love with the world of Angels and Demons. Ok, to be fair, I already loved Angels. But the idea of demons kind of squicked me out a little bit. Going off of my love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, demons are funky looking and usually ooze some kind of nasty goo, right?

Um. Wrong. Really wrong.

In Tarra Blaize's world, they're dangerous and mysterious and oh-so-sexy. But I'll get to that in a minute.

Layla Roads immediately tore at my heart strings. She's obviously torn about what she's doing, but feels that she's doing it (betraying her sexy-as-hell boss Gethin - who she harbours a pretty big thing for) for a good reason... namely, some nasty ass (in the sense that they're jerks, not that they're hideous-looking) air demons are threatening to kill her 7 year old brother. Wayyy not cool. So yeah, I get why she's betraying Gethin.

And I get why Gethin would feel so ... well, betrayed. Even if things hadn't gone beyond a kiss or two, he made it known that he felt something for Layla (even if it was just a really strong sexual attraction, it was something). And he trusted her inside his company with demons he cared about.

Kinda seems like a recipe for a really big blowout and Layla getting killed, right? I mean, Gethin is a demon, after all...

Nope, wrong again! (I totally feel like Rafiki right now)

I won't give any more away, because this is one of those that you have to read for yourselves to see why I loved it as much as I did. Believe me, it's well worth the $2.80 pricetag at Amazon.

The story pulled me in from the very beginning, and I loved the sexual tension between Gethin and Layla from the very beginning. Even when he's so mad at her he's ready to kill, I still felt something between them. There were only two things I had an issue with...

1) You never hear from Gethin. I like hearing from the hero's point of view as well as the heroine.
2) Unless PK made me miss something by bothering me while I was reading, I didn't see the resolution of one of the major plot points (the person they're searching for). Unless this is intentionally left open for a sequel (which I'd be totally happy with reading, I promise you), I feel like that part was left dangling.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable novella, and I look forward to reading more of Tarra Blaize's work in the future.

Layla is walking on dangerous ground. Her brother has been kidnapped, and her only option to save him is to give into the blackmailing air demons. She has found herself working undercover with the blood demons, trying to uncover information to secretly give over to the air demons and get her brother back. While undercover she meets the blood demon, Gethin. He makes it very clear that he wants Layla, but she knows she can’t let their attraction get out of control, always wary of her undercover status. A very sexy demon, who she soon finds out is much more than just a blood thirsty, violent man.

When the air demons are mistakenly alerted that she may be in trouble, a portal is opened and a blood bath ensues. Her cover is blown, and Gethin is not a happy demon. But Layla will do anything to keep her brother from harm.

Break is a novella, but Tarra Blaize really sets up a full story – and even has time to give us some sexy romance scenes. I immediately fell for Gethin. Layla describes him as a demon with a “moral code.” He is definitely a demon not afraid to violently torture people to get his way, but he has a conscience up there somewhere, and he turns into a hero you start rooting and lusting for. He has that low, gravely voice that promises naughty deeds, and he is definitely not afraid to let his attraction to the heroine be known.

I also liked Layla, although at the beginning I have to say I was confused about exactly what she was and was doing with the blood demons. I wish a little better explanation or background into Layla’s character had been given. The present day action is described well, but it was hard to wrap my mind around everyone’s motives in the beginning. But once we get into the story, she is a tough cookie.

I can’t go much more into the story without giving things away – but there are some cool twists, and a nice ending.

I like Tarra Blaize’s voice and look forward to more of her in the future.

Layla has a unique gift: She can see angels and demons; ever since a human accidentally opened a portal to hell, they've been walking among us. Now she's spying on the blood demons, led by the lethally dangerous and sexy Gethel. Should she fail, her brother will die at the hands of a rival demon faction.

When her cover is blown, she's at the mercy of Gethel, a demon known for his cruel torture... And he's made it perfectly clear that he wants her...

I LOVED the beginning of this novel. Gethel was delightfully naughty, sexy, seductive and cruelly dangerous; he ultimate sexy demon bad-boy. However, I expected a little sexual blackmail, when he had her at his mercy.

A few objections: Wish the author had given this a little more thought.

Had it not been for these objections, I'd probably have rated this book higher. Throw in a little more demonic Gethel nature, and I would have given it a 5 star rating. As it it, I give this book 3+ stars.

In a world where demons and angels now walk the earth, spunky trailer trash hacker with a heart of gold, Layla, will do anything to protect her brother. Even spying on a delicious master assassin blood demon. Will the bad demons get her brother? Will she get caught as a spy? Will the delish blood demon sink his fangs into her femoral artery? (My favorite part, btw ;)

For a novella, around 22K according to ARe, this was an entertaining if a bit uneven read. The world is there and it's interesting but the story feels rushed, ultimately being as satisfying as cotton candy.

Now Layla had a lot of good points (love hacker babes!) but I have to admit she I prefer my heroines to be a bit more bloodthirsty. Having Layla be so squeamish when the blood started flying kinda bummed me out because she had the makings a kick ass urban fantasy heroine.

Gethin is just shy of being a totally awesome hero. He has some great moments but the pace of the story and the unevenness takes away from a possibly great hero.

I think a longer story would likely flesh out the characters and make them truly marvelous. I definitely hope to see more of this universe in a longer story. Having said that, this was a quick, easy read and a good addition to the angel/demon genre.

I was very, very impressed with this story. I loved the world that Tarra Blaize created. I loved Gethin and his ruthlessness. I felt for Layla. Simply put, I was highly impressed that a world this complex was brought to life in so few words.

In a lot of the books, it seems like demons are softened up and made to be less vicious, more human. I liked that Gethin would torture and kill to get what he needed. I liked his ruthless attitude toward his enemies but I also liked that he was willing to listen to Layla and learn why she had betrayed him. I think I've just contradicted that first sentence now. I bemoan the humanized demons but I like how he has a heart under all his ruthless, blood thirsty ways.

Regardless, I really enjoyed myself with this story. I'd definitely read more by this author.

Layla lives on the cusp of danger. She has a gift - the ability to see angels and demons. One demon in particular has taken over her workspace- the delicious Gethin. Although she resists, Layla is very attracted to Gethin. But the fact is her brother has been kidnapped and Gethin might be her only hope at getting him back.

This was a fun read. I loved Gethin, he was a great character. Layla was wonderful as lead too. But Gethin really pulled me in. He's very wicked and that was hard resist. Break has a lot of fast action and was a steamy good read. Ms. Blaize has created a dark and enticing story, I look forward to reading her future releases.
