When twin sisters Hanna and Alex head to their high school reunion, will they bite off more than they can chew when they find a former classmate’s dead body?
Hanna and Alex, owners of the Murder and Mayhem book and chocolate shop, are busy preparing for the Harriston High School’s reunion weekend. They’re eager to see old friends—and perhaps avoid old foes. One person they can’t avoid is Kyle, the former star quarterback, who is busy using his entire playbook to try and score with Hanna. He even uses his status as a judge at the upcoming chocolate competition to threaten her if she doesn’t play nice. At the reunion, the twins soon bond with their fellow classmates over their nostalgia of their youth—but the party is put on hold when Alex finds the dead body of none other than Kyle himself, bludgeoned to death by a nutcracker that the sisters admired earlier in the night.
Hanna quickly becomes the prime suspect—everyone saw her slap Kyle across the face at the reunion dance. She’ll need her sister, their sleuthing canine, Watson, and their old friends and colleagues to help break this case wide open. While looking through old yearbooks and taking a stroll down memory lane, Alex uncovers a few secrets about Kyle, now, it seems like everyone had a motive to kill him: Is there a football team secret Coach Fenton was covering up? Could the mayor, Everett, have a skeleton or two in his closet? And for some classmates, maybe time doesn’t heal all wounds.
When the suspects start becoming the victims, Alex and Hanna know that they can’t melt under the pressure—they must find the killer before they become just another yearbook memory.
Christina Romeril loves to plot murders, especially by poisoning. When she’s not plotting how to kill one of her characters she’s coming up with ways to dispose of the body. Since writing her debut novel her husband’s friends have been regularly checking on his well-being.
Christina also loves to read, eat chocolates, and travel when she’s not in her she shed writing. She grew up in Southern Ontario and spent most of her summers in Muskoka swimming, boating, and generally getting into mischief. She’s lived on both coasts of Canada and has a love of being near the water and close to a forest. Thus, it makes perfect sense that she moved to the prairies of Southern Alberta over twenty years ago.
During the warmer months you’ll find her escaping to nearby Waterton Lakes National Park with her cooler stocked full of chocolate and pastries. Occasionally, the once avid hiker will even set out on one of the many hiking trails and hope she doesn’t run into a hungry bear.
Christina's debut cozy mystery novel, A CHRISTMAS CANDY KILLING, released in 2022 and A NUTCRACKER NIGHTMARE, the second instalment in the Killer Chocolate Mysteries will be out October 17, 2023.

Murder & Mayhem bookshop and chocolaterie, which was owned and run by twin sisters Alex and Hanna, was very busy and the women were run off their feet. The Harriston High School's reunion was on on the weekend, and they were supplying the sweets, while the chocolate competition they always entered was coming up fast. After setting up everything in preparation for guests, the old classmates were welcomed and memories rushed back for one and all. But it was the nasty, egotistical and universally disliked Kyle who caused trouble throughout the evening, until Alex, searching to replace paper towel, found Kyle's body in the basement. He'd been bludgeoned to death with a nutcracker - and while there were plenty of suspects, there weren't many who were sorry.
When Duncan, deputy sheriff and Hanna's beau, blocked the area, called the sheriff and began interviews before everyone could leave, amateur sleuth Alex was immediately processing what she knew. Kyle had had enemies, so elimination was best. But when someone else was killed, theories and ideas flowed, and although she was told not to get involved, Alex took no notice. Would she discover the killer or would the killer get to her first?
A Nutcracker Nightmare is the 2nd in the Killer Chocolate series by Christina Romeril and it was a lot of fun. Mixed with Christmas songs, decorations, ice and snow, the chocolate sounded divine. (recipes at the end!!) And Mrs Watson - she was a very special, adorable dog! Hanna and Alex are great characters - I'd have them around just for their chocolate making skills! Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Book 2 of the killer chocolate cozy mystery series is fantastic! The characters are likable, the mystery kept me guessing, and the chocolate sounds delicious (well all except the poison in the chocolate lol). I highly recommend this to any cozy lover or adventurous foodie! lol I would like to thank netgalley, the author Christina Romeril, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!
With providing catering for the Harrison High School reunion weekend and preparing for a chocolate competition, twins Alex and Hanna are busy bees and would like nothing better than to see both events done and dusted without any ugly drama. However, Kyle the former star quarterback and a big pain in almost everyone's lives has other plans but even his planning did not include getting himself killed! Now Hanna is a suspect and it is upto Alex to again flex her sleuthing muscles and grey cells to figure out who had enough of Kyle's blackmailing ways to take such a step.
Overall, I liked the book but I will admit a little less than the first one. I think there were quite a lot of characters to keep track of and personally I felt the mystery/reason behind Kyle's murder should have been attached to his activities during his high school years instead of how everything played out. There was once again ample mention of chocolate goodies and a few more recipes included at the end.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Crooked Lane Books and the author Christina Romeril for the e-Arc of the book.
This is such a fun cozy mystery series. A Nutcracker Nightmare was a quick read that was the perfect way to kick off my Christmas reading.
This time the twins are helping out with a high school reunion that goes wrong and attendees end up dead. Alex, the ever sleuthing wonder, decides to investigate which, of course, surrounds her in danger.
I absolutely love the twins and their Murder and Mayhem book and chocolate shop. I seriously wish there was something like this where I live. I also love the way Alex thinks things through as we follow along her investigation.
Perfect for cozy mystery fans. Definitely go grab this one, and the first book as well, and enjoy! I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
A Nutcracker Nightmare is the second book in Killer Chocolate, a cozy mystery series. Though I am reading the second one first I still was able to enjoy the story fully. I do need to read that first one now. Sisters Alex and Hanna live together and jointly own Murder and Mayhem: Killer Chocolates and Bookshop in fictional Harriston, Montana where this is set. When they signed up for a best chocolates competition, they didn't realize the competition would be delayed several times and finally fall right during the Christmas season when they were swamped with candy orders. Can the sisters keep up with everything including trying out recipes of new chocolate favors to create for the shop? I did think it was pretty neat that the names of their chocolates go with the theme of their shop. Some of the names of the chocolates include True North Nicotine Caramel, recipe included and Gingerbread Gelsemine Truffle, recipe included. In real life would these names of chocolates be off putting or draw people in? I'd say both. With high school reunion weekend coming up, some of the former students are looking forward to it and some just want to try to avoid their foes. When an arrogant former student shows up everyone tries to avoid him. They know how rotten he still is. One of the sisters is accused of murder because of an action that was said to have happened. Will this candy maker still be able to stir the chocolate pot, or will the cooking fires be growing cold? The victim was very unlikable so many had a reason to want him out of the picture. Loved the Christmas theme, it was there but not overwhelming. I enjoyed this mystery set around the holidays and it kept me reading to see how it was solved.
Pub Date 17 Oct 2023 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own,
This is the second book in the Killer Chocolate Mystery series. Once again the story takes place around Christmas. There is a flurry of activities going on in Harriston, Montana including a highschool reunion/alumni dinner and dance. Meeting up with old classmates isn't fun for everyone though when someone like Kyle is known for antagonizing everyone. It's no surprise when he turns up dead. Alex will have to work quickly to solve the murder before her twin Hanna is arrested for the murder!
This was a fun and cozy read. There was a lot going on to keep the characters and reader busy. The candy descriptions sound delicious. Alex isn't the most subtle sleuth which is sometimes amusing. I like how her friends get involved in the case. The side characters are portrayed well including the victim. Despite being twins Hanna is a lot different than her sister. She is a bit of a mystery as I feel the reader is still getting to know her.
The mystery was well done and I was thrown off by some red herrings. My guess for the killer kept changing so although I didn't get it right in the end they were a suspect at one time. There are also a couple of side stories that further develop the characters and will have an impact in the next story.
This is a quick read, perfect for getting an early start on the holiday season! Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read!
I was really looking forward to reading this one after enjoying the first book in the series. Unfortunately, I didn't like it quite as much. It wasn't bad, but it felt like it was missing something that the first book had. The characters were a little less likable, and the twins Alex and Hanna were annoying at times. Also, there were so many characters that I had a hard time keeping track of them all. I did, however, still enjoy the small town Christmas vibes and loved everything centered around their book and chocolate shop.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
#ANutcrackerNightmare #NetGalley is the second book in this new series, and it very good. Sisters Hanna and Ali own Murder and Mayhem, a local chocolate and book shop, and Ali has a knack for getting involved in murder investigations. This book has a lot going on, and I was involved in the story early on. I like the characters, they are strong and smart, which makes this a great start to a new series. I'm looking forward to recommending this book to other myster fans. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
It’s Harriston High School’s reunion weekend and Hanna and Alex are going to be serving some of their special chocolates. It should be a good time for everyone to reconnect with their classmates and share news about their lives.
There is one person though that could ruin the whole event. Kyle Allerton, a former star quarterback, is a real piece of work and almost everyone is doing their best to avoid him. Hanna isn’t so lucky though, he just won’t back off and even threatens her. Alex notices it isn’t just Hanna who is getting annoyed.
When Alex later finds the quarterback’s dead body the party comes to an abrupt halt. The murder weapon appears to be a nutcracker Alex and Hanna had moved earlier. The entire place is filled with viable suspects but the police are focused on Hanna because someone saw her confrontation with Kyle that left him with a bloody nose. Alex knows Hanna had no part in the bully’s death and she, her friends, and her dog Miss Watson are going to help Hanna prove it. When her suspects start becoming victims she knows she needs to turn up the heat and crack the killer before the killer cracks her.
I really enjoy the premise of the Murder and Mayhem Book and Chocolate Shop. Hannah creates the chocolates with puny poison names and Alex takes care of the books, but they both help each other out as needed. They are a great team in everything they do. They are genuine and realistic and the relationship is comfortable.
Pastor Tom Kennedy lives next door to twins Alex and Hanna. After a shaky start he and Alex are trying to date but things like Penelope Shaw, a divorcee who wants Tom for herself, keeps getting in the way. It doesn’t help that she has another man interested in her either. Maggie Fletcher works with Alex and Hanna and is a true friend to them both. Miss T writes a gossip blog and while no one knows who the blogger is, they sure know things no one else should and “spills the tea” daily. All of Ms. Romeril’s core characters continue to grow and are very entertaining.
Miss Watson is one smart canine too. Hanna had dragged Alex to a rescue to “look” at the dogs. Miss Watson immediately melted Alex’s heart and now she rarely leaves her side. I love it when cozy characters have lovable pets that get involved in the story and sometimes save the day by calling the cavalry.
The mystery was very complicated due to the victim’s lifelong behavior. With a large number of suspects and many not being truthful or holding on to secrets, it was a hard one to solve. Alex did have a few moments where her investigative techniques needed to be reeled back a bit, and her internal dialogue needed to relax, but she was shuffling a lot of clues. Her A-ha moment did come at an inopportune time but I had gotten so caught up in the story I was right there with her. I was surprised and then delighted about how the whodunit was wrapped up.
Chocolates. Oh, my dear chocolates. The descriptions will have you salivating. The author includes wonderful directions for making molded chocolates and two recipes but we have a wonderful candy shop here in town that I visited after reading the first book in this series, A Christmas Candy Killing, and visited again after finishing this one. The candy there does not have the poisonish names like the ones in the books but it sure cures my cravings. I do wish there had been more emphasis on the chocolate competition Hanna had entered. I can never get enough chocolate and would have loved to hear about what everyone entered.
The Nutcracker Nightmare was a very enjoyable read filled with fun characters and a perplexing mystery. I can’t wait to return to Harriston, Montana, and the Murder and Mayhem Book and Chocolate Shop. Who knows what Hanna and Alex will get into next? I do know there will be “killer” chocolates involved.
I really enjoyed this second installment in the Killer Chocolate Series. Although there were a lot of characters in this one, the writing was done so that it wasn’t confusing. The murder and setting of events was different and I liked that aspect of the book.
I enjoyed this book. The descriptions of the chocolates are amazing and yummy. I liked the characters although I was starting to have trouble keeping track of them as there’s so many. I did suspect who the killer was and I was right. I was a bit thrown off by the red herring. I felt that it was evenly paced without any slow spots and I wasn’t frustrated by it going in circles. #ANutCrackerNightmare #NetGalley
If you are ready for the holidays and want a cozy to read, check out this new book. It is set during the holidays, has plenty of decorations to keep you in the spirit, and delicious chocolates that will leave you salivating.
This is a fun series, and I like that the main character is a little older (40's), runs a bookstore, and is navigating the world of dating with neighbor Tom. She also has to deal with sniping from another neighbor, Penelope. I think Penelope is just jealous that Tom chose Alex over her. But, in this book, there is another potential love interest for Alex, Eddie. Will he make the cut?
I loved the mystery because I did not guess the killer. I was sure it was a certain character and almost thought I was right until things turned. I was very surprised in the end, and I think you will be too. I think I might have suspected this character, but it was fleeting, and there was nothing concrete to say it was them.
I love the chocolates that Hanna creates. I would like a box mailed to me, please!
This is a delicious series, and we give it 4 paws up.
A Nutcracker Nightmare is the 2nd book in the Murder and Mayhem series. After reading and loving the 1st book, A Christmas Candy Killing, I was excited to be able to read and review this story. Although I did enjoy this one, it was just missing something from the previous book. The setting in this series is gorgeous, I love the twins, Hanna and Alex, love the concept of their book and candy store (I wish we had something like it in our city!!). I thought there were way too many characters to keep track of in this story, I had to stop and try to remember who was who and what their relationship to the others was. It just made it harder to follow along. But I will definitely look forward to reading book 3 (if there will be a book 3).
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC of this cozy mystery. This book will be released in October of 2023. This is the second book in the series in the Killer Chocolate Mystery.
The setting is during the Christmas season. Twins, Alex and Hanna run the chocolate shop and bookstore in their small town. Alex being older by a minute takes care of everything including her smart terrier dog, Watson. The chocolate shop has delicious treats named after killer substances. Which is very interesting. A high school reunion is the main event right before Christmas. Alex and Hanna are providing the desserts. Alex mingles with the partygoers and discovers a classmate dead in the basement. The weapon being a nutcracker. A storm prevents anyone from leaving the gym after Alex calls on the deputy sheriff, Duncan. Alex investigates and soon her sister, Hanna is a point of interest to the sheriff. Alex then ramps up the investigate because she knows her sister did not kill anyone. Then another body is found by Alex and this time Hanna was no near the scene. Alex must race to find the killer before Christmas.
I enjoyed the story and the premise of the Christmas-time cozy. I had trouble relating to Alex who seems to be unsure of her abilities to solve a murder and her romance with a pastor who was older than her by a few years. She took Tom’s business for aloofness with her. She never asked him questions until he told her toward the end. Plus the puns that they told to each other and their friends were a little cringy. The small-town character were all relatable and you could like any one of them.
I gave this 4 stars only because I think the characters could be developed a little bit more.
Quick, easy, fun read. Perfect for the mystery lover with a holiday theme. Part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone (I haven’t read the first one in the series). Wonderfully written characters and thought provoking who done it. Will definitely read more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you NetGalley, Christina Romeril and Crooked Lane for hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you #partner
Fun seasonal cozy mystery. I obviously love the Montana setting and the Christmas festivities but I also enjoy that the main characters are in their mid-40s like me. Make them so relatable! I was pretty sure I knew the killer early on but wasn’t sure on the motive so I enjoyed being surprised.
I enjoyed A Christmas Candy Killing so much that I have been eagerly looking forward to this new book in the series, A Nutcracker Nightmare. And it’s full of everything I loved about book one – engaging characters, quaint setting, witty humor, yummy food, a clever mystery and, of course, Christmas!
Half of the twin sister chocolate mystery fan team, Alex seems to have a knack for solving murders at Christmas. Her twin Hanna is the magic behind their chocolates, and I was definitely drooling a bit during the scenes where she’s whipping up another batch. I really enjoy these two together. Their bond is strong, they’re comfortable around each other, and they truly are a team. Their employee Maggie is a treasure, and I still adore Maggie’s brother Pastor Tom and her son Duncan even though their brewing romances with Alex and Hanna, respectively, are tenuous in this book. Alex & Hanna’s adorable dog Miss Watson also steals the show – I love her!
It’s high school reunion weekend in Harriston, and an eclectic blend of characters are making appearances. From the truly loathsome victim Kyle to a bevy of people who had reason to hate him, Alex has her work cut out for her in solving the crime to clear Hanna’s name. In the midst of the investigation, a pesky town gossip blogger seems to always be at least one step ahead and has Alex in his or her sights. Is Kyle’s death related to lingering animosity from high school days or his more recent behavior? Is the culprit someone Alex knows from town or someone who’s returned for the reunion? I had as much trouble as Alex did in narrowing down the suspects – it seemed like just about the time we’d at least partially ruled one out we ended up adding a couple more people to the list. I thought for sure I knew who it was, and then a stunning twist obliterated my guesses.
Bottom Line: Tis the season for Alex to find another body – or two – and the next Killer Chocolate Mystery arrives just in time! Her mystery-bookstore-slash-mystery-chocolate-shop that she runs with her twin sister Hanna is just as delightful as it was during our first visit, and I once again loved the quaint Montana setting and the engaging characters. I thought the mystery itself was perfectly paced and nicely layered, with nearly an entire town’s worth of suspects. I had my suspicions as to who did it… and I was completely wrong LOL. But I had lots of fun guessing and watching to see how it would play out! The dashes of romance are a nice touch for this KissingBooks fan, but they definitely don’t dominate the story so don’t worry if you prefer mostly mystery. A sweet (in more ways than one) read and an entertaining mystery that will have you hunting for a stash of chocolate in your pantry! Also, three cheers for the endearing Miss Watson!

My thoughts: 🔖Page 131 of 298 Ch. 17 - This is a bit inconsistent but overall it's enjoyable and fast-moving. It's set a year after the first book and I think I may like it more, except for the romantic situations.
This story was a little inconsistent. I had a hard time with characters calling their parents by their given name when talking about them. For me the Miss T storyline got old fast, I was very annoyed at the idea of it being a regular part of the story, so that affected my enjoyment, I was more invested in that than the murder at one point because I wanted her stopped before the next book. I don't want to spoil the conclusion so I'll just say overall this was a good story. I had to look up 'snow job', it's a good phrase. I'm looking forward to book 3.
Recommend to others: Yes. I'm only disappointed I have to wait a year for the next installment.
Killer Chocolate 1. A Christmas Candy Killing (2022) 2. A Nutcracker Nightmare (2023)
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.A Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril is another Christmas mystery for Alex Wright and Hanna Eastham.
Can Alex find the true killer of Kyle?
Alex Wright and Hanna Eastham Alex Wright is back again working in her bookstore and candy shop. She has a hard time believing that Tom still wants to date her or even have anything to do with her. Alex, out of the two twins, is always the one who sticks her nose into other people's business. Especially when it comes to solving a murder. I think that Alex will forever want to solve mysteries as she likes being able to solve a crime that isn't in one of her mystery novels at the bookstore, despite what her sister and friends all think about Alex doing that.
Hanna Eastham loves making the specialty chocolates for the bookstore. She has been busy trying to create two new chocolates that taste excellent for the competition that they signed the shop up for. Hanna is accused, this time, of killing the victim when he is found dead. I have to say that out of the two, I don't think Hanna could hurt anyone. However, Alex, I think she can if it is to protect someone.
The Victim Kyle Allerton is the victim of this current mystery. Alive, Kyle wasn't the best person, and now that he is dead, many people have a lot to say about him, and none of it was good. Well, even when he was alive, no one liked him. Kyle upset a lot of people growing up there and even more so now that he was back. At the class reunion for the Class of 99, he wasn't well-liked by most of his former classmates, who didn't want to talk to him. I have to say that finding out more about Kyle, I was surprised he wasn't killed sooner.
Four Stars A Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril is another good Christmas read. I am giving A Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril four stars and recommending it to anyone who likes a holiday mystery.
The only thing that I have to say to Ms. Romeril is maybe have a mystery set at a different time of year to make it different, and not all murderers go to Montana during the winter time.
Ms. Romeril has a how-to guide for making chocolate molds at home, True North Nicotine Caramel, and Gingerbread Gelsemine Truffle.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of A Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril.
Two books into this series and I still haven't made up my mind about it. I was certain that the first book at least implied that it was set in Colorado, but this book specifically mentions Montana. Either I misread - or misinterpreted - something in one of the books, or the town of Harriston has moved.
I like the relationship between Hanna and Alex, twin sister MCs, but had a hard time keeping their romantic entanglements (or lack of them) straight. Most of the rest of the town residents seem like people I'd like to spend time with, but if there weren't unpleasant people in a story, there wouldn't be a murder victim :)
The victim here was so reviled that almost everyone had reason to kill him, so there were a lot of suspects to cross off the list. A few names stayed near the top of my list as more information was uncovered, but I was suspicious of one particular character early on in the book. I didn't figure out the motive, but I was right about the killer.
If there's another book coming in this series, I'll read it, if only to learn the names of some of the sisters' other chocolate confections.
I gave a Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril 5 stars

-------- REVIEW -------- This new installment is the second book in the Killer Chocolate series. It was so, so good. I could not put it done once I started. The story is great, and I really like our main character (and her twin sister). She is a proper sleuth who go out looking for clues instead of letting them come to her. It is a fast-paced mystery that never gets boring. Since there are quite a lot of characters in this book, I never figured out whodunit.
A Christmas cozy series I highly recommend!
This book comes out October 17.
Thank you, Net Galley and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I have the same thoughts on this one as I do the first really. I feel like the murder/mystery and the dating/relationship are equal focus in these books. This reads to me more like chick lit romance with cozy mystery elements. I do enjoy a class reunion and liked that premise and the chocolates and food sound incredible. I just do not care for all the “time is running out” and relationship drama. I usually give series three reads and I think I will continue if there is a third.
A NUTCRACKER NIGHTMARE by Christina Romeril The Second Killer Chocolate Mystery
Reunions can be difficult at the best of times, but when the high school bully is back as an obnoxious, handsy narcissist, you know it's more like the worst of times. Twins Alex and Hanna Wright are helping at the Harriston High School’s reunion weekend. Hanna is busy avoiding Kyle, the groping former football star, as well as glaring at Duncan who's hanging out with his old girlfriend while Alex is watching minor fireworks and confrontations between the former classmates. Alex heads to the basement, but instead of paper towels she finds Kyle's dead body. Nearly everyone who met him wanted to kill him, but someone actually did the dead. Police zero in on Hanna and warn Alex not to get involved, but with a sister in trouble, Alex is going to investigate!
I must admit that I love it when a jerk gets his just desserts. And I'm not talking about some of Hanna's delectable chocolates. Kyle was a lousy excuse for a human being, and though sure, no one should be murdered, but in a murder mystery someone has to be killed so why not make it a villain! Another plus to having an unlikable person become the victim there's a slew of suspects. I enjoyed seeing all the motives get uncovered. There were lots of secrets from the past and it was interesting sorting out just what was relevant to the current crime.
I also enjoyed the character dynamics. Past and present, these characters are incredibly intertwined. The relationship difficulties between Hanna and Duncan and Alex and Tom...and possibly Eddie bring more drama and questions to the plot. There's also lots of action, assaults, and bravery amid miscommunication and murder!
A NUTCRACKER NIGHTMARE brings a reunion themed murder to snowy Montana with romantic disruptions, delicious chocolates, and a poisoned pen themed blog!
Nutcracker Nightmare is the second book in the True Confections series and it is so good! The main characters are twin sisters who run a chocolate shop in a small Montana town. Alex and Hanna's Christmas preparations are derailed when Hanna becomes the prime suspect in a murder. It's up to Alex to find the real killer and prove her twin's innocence.
I think twins as the characters is a fun, unique idea. I really enjoy the relationship between Alex and Hanna and the love for each other. Alex is a determined amateur sleuth who will do what it takes to help her sister. I liked the suspense of the mystery and the way things turn out in the end in both the case and in the personal lives of both sisters. There are recipes at the end of the book for some chocolate treats that sound delicious, but are well beyond my culinary talents! I enjoyed the first book in the series, too, but it's not necessary to enjoy this one. Cozy mystery fans looking for a fun holiday read will enjoy this book.
I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Thank you netgalley for letting me review this book.
I love books that make me want to eat everything that is talked about in this book.
a former classmate is found dead so the search is on to find out who did it. Just when you think you may know what is going on a new twist is revealed. Of course one of the people who found the dead body becomes the main suspect, so she tries to prove her innocence.
As we read we find out some secrets about the person who was found dead which leads us to question everything we may know.
enjoy this tasty cozy mystery and see if you can figure out who the killer is before more people become victims of the crime.
This is the second book in the Killer Chocolate series. I really enjoyed the first book so I was looking forward to reading the next installment. I am happy to say I enjoyed this one just as much. The characters are engaging and wonderfully written. The mystery was great. I didn't guess the killer until the end. I am looking forward to more in the series.
A Nutcracker Nightmare is the second installment in the Killer Chocolate series set in Harriston, Montana and featuring twin sisters Alex and Hanna Wright, owners of the Murder and Mayhem: Killer Chocolates and Bookshop. It's a busy December for the sisters and their one employee Maggie Fletcher with the Festive Foods Chocolates Competition and the High School Reunion weekend.
Nobody is looking forward to seeing Kyle Allerton, former High School quarterback who has a reputation as a playboy. When Kyle turns up dead at the dance it's no surprise but everyone becomes a suspect, from former teammates, to classmates and current townspeople. With Hanna being top of the list, Alex sets out to track down the real killer, and quickly learns once again the idyllic little town has lots to hide.
A fun afternoon read with returning characters, a furry companion and developing romances. Oh, and don't forget the delicious sounding chocolate recipes.
I received an advanced copy of A Nutcracker Nightmare from NetGalley via Crooked Lane. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
Fun read. Not sure why but it was very hard to me to keep everyone straight...Lucy, Eddie, Nick, Miss Vicky, Rose, Maggie, Drew, Brooke. Even though I struggled with that, it was still an enjoyable read. Lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing.
Low on the Christmas festive vibes but high on the small town high school reunion drama. Overall entertaining but lacking something for me, it’s just not that engaging. Maybe it’s a slower pace. It has so many elements I enjoy - the candies, the older than average sleuths.
