Taking it down a whole 'nother level, Will and Chester journey to the deadly center of the earth in FREEFALL. By the authors of the NYT Bestseller TUNNELS--soon to be a major motion picture!
DEEPER ended with Will and Chester head over heels in FREEFALL-- tumbling through the subterranean Pore with the evil Rebecca twins in hot pursuit, toting phials of the toxic Dominion virus. When, where, will they ever land? Just when the drop seems infinite, the boys hit bottom, and find themselves in a realm of near-zero gravity atop a giant spongy fungus stuffed with flesh-eating spiders. But the true threat lies closer; dangerously close to Will's heart. And above ground, black-clad Styx are sprouting like poison mushrooms, dead-set on spreading their plague!
Roderick Gordon is the author of the Tunnels series of books. Born in 1960, he grew up in Highgate, North London, and eventually went to University College where he dabbled in genetics and listened to Joy Division. After graduating without the faintest idea what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, he spent some time in the wilderness when he played in a few bands, then somehow fell into a job doing corporate finance for an investment bank in the City of London. He genuinely thought this was all that the future held for him until he was made redundant in 2001. But Roderick surprised himself by working on a book with help from an old university friend and, in 2005, he self-published it as The Highfield Mole, which caught the attention of Barry Cunningham, founder of Chicken House, a publisher of children’s books. Following a period of editing, Barry republished it as Tunnels in July 2007. After intense media interest around its launch, Tunnels was published in almost forty countries and was a New York Times Bestseller, achieving sales of more than a million copies worldwide. Shortly after publication the film rights were purchased by US-based Relativity Media, and Mikael Håfström has been appointed as director. Roderick followed Tunnels with further books in the series, Deeper, Freefall, Closer, Spiral and, finally, Terminal in 2013.
He has just released a new book called Summerhouse Land in a very limited run of hardbacks. Please see www.summerhouseland.com for more details.
Apparently I'm stuck with this series, since I bought the first 4 books 'blindly' I love the idea of going Underground alright, just hated the prolonged writing style.. But this one bit faster, cause here's a Freefall.. to the Center of the Earth With a Mason like cult, the Illuminate, the lost civilization of Atlantis..AND the theory of Hollow Earth.. Now that the Urban Fantasy is back with more focus of the plot in the Topsoil, and the element of the old Science Theories, things getting much interesting now like the first half of book one, yet it still could be better told in less than 600 pages.. More on the Characters will be added soon ISA

Of the three books so far in the series, this is the one that I have enjoyed the most. The previous two largely take place in the dismal underground worlds controlled by the Styx, but Freefall is a subterranean area completely untouched by these evil humans. Thus, the general mood from the characters feels lighter, and the spirit of adventure is stronger.
(Spoiler alert!) My favorite part, though would have to be once they get to the very center in which is contained a second sun. I couldn’t quite grasp what that would look like as described in the ancient maps that Dr. Burrows references throughout the first and second books, but it makes a lot more sense as the authors describe it. It literally is a sun that formed inside of the earth, and, as such, there is another, smaller world there that is similar to the one we inhabit on the surface.
I didn’t think that anyone could recreate a center of the world fantasy with any originality since Vern’s pretty much covers it, but I think Williams and Gordon have done an excellent job of reopening our imaginations to what may lie beneath our feet. I recommend this fun, entertaining read to readers 12+.
After digging through the subterranean world of modern-day London in search of his father, Will Burrows ended up on the run from the diabolical Styx army with his best friend, Chester, and his newly discovered brother, Cal. After an encounter with the Rebecca twins and Styx army, the group of friends fell down a deep hole known as the Pore.
The FREEFALL takes them further into the earth, but they're not alone in the depths of the Pore. Having been mortally wounded, Will's biological mother used her last moments to knock the Rebecca twins into the Pore as well, and with them, the vials of the deadly Dominion virus.
Will and his group of friends must find a way to keep the Rebecca twins from escaping the Pore with the virus. They meet new friends and explore new places that bring them closer to understanding the inner workings of the earth. But will they be able to stop the Styx plot, escape the Deeps, and return to their lives in the world above?
The books in the TUNNELS series are long, and with the shifting points of view, sometimes can frustrate me when I have to leave a character in the middle of a dangerous situation to delve into another character's mind and situation, only to leave them and go to yet another. Though it may frustrate me at times, it doesn't keep me from reading and wanting more.
FREEFALL is a glorious continuation of the story that began in TUNNELS and continued in DEEPER. The new explorations and discoveries in FREEFALL kept me floating along with Will and his friends in near zero gravity. With each page turn, my fascination with this subterranean world created by Gordon and Williams increased. I can't wait to get CLOSER to the truth in the next book. Hopefully, CLOSER will also bring further understanding of the world and characters in this series.
Well... Ups.
Anyways... Kocham Drake'a. Kocham Celię Burrows (jakby. She's an icon, okay? Slay. Po prostu slay.). Kocham Chestera... I noo... Nienawidzę Burrowsa ale to jest tak samo oczywiste jak fakt, że on a scale from 1 to 10 (my friend) I'm fucked w tym roku...
I noo... Jakby... Samolot bombowy? Huh? Co się dzieje?
To tyle.
The third book in the Tunnels series. Will and Chester freefall into the Pore followed by the evil Rebecca twins who possess the Dominion virus. They reach the bottom and land on a spongy fungus with an injured Elliott. They must find a way to survive and prevent the Styxx from spreading the Dominion plague Topsoil.
Mungkin karena saya melahap seri ketiga tanpa membaca dua seri sebelumnya, butuh waktu lama untuk memahami jalan cerita. Terutama istilah-istilah seperti Pore, Deeps, Topsoil, Colony, dll.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I have been waiting for it to come out for a couple of months after I had finished reading "Deeper" I really like the idea of the whole story and it is a book I found hard to put down. I personally think this book was great until the ending, when the surroundings of the "second sun" place was so similar to "topsoil" life, it has a lack of imagination and mystery. It wasn't the way I would have hoped the book to end, I was expecting a bit more than just some "normal" sightings in the "second sun" place to be the ending. I still have question unanswered about the virus, if they go back to "topsoil" what happens to Mrs. Burrows and do Chester and Martha make it to "topsoil"? And what Drake and Elliot's fathers plans are? Which I am guessing will all be answered in a fourth book? Which I can't wait for. Apart from that, it was a really good read!! I hope that some day it will be made into a film :D
This is book 3 of a 6 book set. I have thoroughly enjoyed going on this journey with Will, Chester and the rest of the gang. It is a book with threat of global domination and destruction. One of the aspects of the book that is keeping me reading is all of the main characters are children and or no older than 22. Even the "evil" character is a set of teenage twin girls.
For me this is a familiar story line theme. I am very curious how these 2 authors carry it out. So far the have kept me interested for 3 books.
It is definitely a tween level book. It is not a difficult read just a long story. In my opinion, it is a great story. Give it a chance. Tell me what you think.
I am so happy- wait, spoiler- that Elliot and Will finally killed the Rebecca twins. Or, rather, maybe. I have a friend who read the fifth book of the series first, and I don't think the Rebecca twins actually died. Or if there are actually more than just two. I am getting the fourth book in 12 days, exactly, and it is driving me crazy! This is a really good book.
I just got this book from the UK and am on 148 so far it is pretty good I can't tell yet if it is as good or better then the first 2 book but I will keep you posted ;o) Happy reading Shawna
This book is like alice in wonder land but more gruesome and more boring. I think that this book is to long for it's story and I think it's over rated.

I love the Pore atmosphere. It’s so scary and surreal and fun, the Brights and freak ass spiders are scary, the fungus walls and the giant crystals and the secret second sun is just really cool. I LOVE Mrs. Burrows’ transformation and her arc with Drake, FINALLY we get to see a peek of Elliot’s dad, and Martha is so batty I just find her so funny. I’m glad Will is bearable and has made up with Chester and has finally lost some of his stubborn incompetence, the end portion where he actually recovers the phials AND takes down a twin is such a turning point.
That being said, there are pretty large swathes of just unnecessary description or yapping. I would’ve liked to see more character work (at the end when Elliot in a single, non-descript. paragraph “tells Will about her childhood”, I mean, c’mon) rather than long boring descrips. of scenery and/or history, but that’s less my speed. Dr. Burrows is an annoying and entitled fucker in this book. I don’t remember him being so unbearable but I think those are his true colors. Finally, again, Will has such a weird back and forth between respecting his father and utterly disliking him. At the end of the book, he gets upset that Dr. Burrows leapt into Smoking Jean with only a theory and a dream—then why’d you follow him willingly mf??? Just doesn’t make sense.
But I gotta shout out the very ending where Will sets up a cemetery for his lost family members, and he and Elliot share a genuinely touching moment. It’s a pretty and poignant scene, and probably one of my favorites.
Onto the next one :^)

This book (freefall) was the best book out of the 3 I have all read it is so good I could read it over and over I mean it could end right there and it would be fine that's how good it is this book turns the table on the dominion virus and so many in answered questions that wants me to think and ask questions about how it works.this book series is a total masterpiece and would recommend this series to anyone that wants a constant thriller this book will give you emotions that make you feel like you are right next to will or anyone of the people in this book the end left me split with all kinds of questions that only the next book can answer so yes read this series you will never ever put this book down once you pick it up and again I encourage you to read this series around every corner you think they are being hoodwinked or even going to blow up and with the Styx on their back it feels like their going to get killed or attacked by dogs or brights so if you want a super thriller than read this book I have all ready read the maze runner series and was very happy with how the series was set up so it lead me to this series which truly was art just the way they set it up makes you think is he going to die? And even though the first book is slower Thant the rest it still was one of the best books I've read the whole series is a rise to the climax and this book will never let the action die so to conclude yes keep reading this series I encourage you to.
