William Beebe worked as a marine biologist and entomologist. For the zoological society of New York, he conducted his deep dives, and people remember his prolific scientific writing for both academic and popular audiences.

He also wrote under the names Charles William and C. William Beebe.

I believe I have a copy of the original edition, published in 1932

The subject is fascinating , and would be much more interesting to a true scientist, but to me it is much too scientific, and it ended up boring me to tears
There are some very interesting black and white photos of Nonsuch Islanders and some of the wildlife he studied there
