4.5⭐️ = Good Paperback. This was my monthly book club read. A great easy to read book, but with plenty of depth. A dual timeline- both of which I really enjoyed . It all came together very nicely at the end . Although, there was one area that was a little silly in my opinion. I’m surprised that this hasn’t had more views and reviews, as I think it will appeal to many. The only minor irritation was the handful of spelling and grammatical errors. Where was the proofreader?
I love a dual timeline story and when combined with WWII it really hits home for me. The last portion of the book drug on a little longer than what I thought necessary but still thought it very entertaining. I also spotted about 6 errors in grammar and misnaming a character which I never catch so definitely needed a better proof reader before publication.
This story was good in parts. The plot was unnecessarily convoluted and in the end quite contrived. Bruno added nothing to the story, although I liked Celeste/Esther, Stella, Danny and Lewis. Not the best of her books in my opinion
A family with a troubled relationship it's seems they put the blame aside seems the author likes cornwall as do others must be the haunting atmosphere in this area and big old houses on cliffs it shows hidding secrets must be recalled by a ring
Started out well but then limped towards the very predictable ending. The murderer was obvious from quite early on but the protagonist was completely in the dark until the 'reveal' at the end...
There were an annoying amount of typos and missing/wrong words, particularly in the second half of the book. I reported them all as content errors, so hopefully they will be amended.
Absolutely unputdownable. A haunting tale of love, betrayal and redemption. Keeps you guessing til the final denouement. I cannot resent the sleep I lost while feverishly reading through the twists and turns.
Set against the backdrop of Cornwall, England, The Silver Ring weaves a haunting tale of betrayal, family secrets, and forbidden love. In 1939, as war looms, a horrific poisoning wipes out most of the wealthy Cossentine family, leaving only two survivors—Maurice and his sister Celeste. Celeste, plagued by a history of mental instability, disappears with a precious silver ring, beginning a life of fear and hidden truths. As she becomes a nurse in the chaos of war, she falls in love with a soldier, but her secret identity could destroy everything.
Fast forward to the present day, where professional violinist Stella uncovers her grandmother’s cryptic journals, revealing a long-lost family heir. Her quest to discover her true heritage leads her to a shadowy Cornish museum, where she realizes someone is watching—and they will stop at nothing to keep the past buried.
A spellbinding journey of discovery, danger, and the haunting power of the past.
This dual timeline novel had less of a romantic feel to it than others I have read and was faster paced. There were some gritty scenes that kept my interest, although I was disappointed by the last couple of chapters of the court scene which I felt was unrealistic. I liked that there were some spiky characters in the modern world but I was more taken with the older timeline of Celeste and Black Rock Hall. The character of Isabella was also interesting, demonstrating that not everything in life works out nicely and I felt sympathy towards her parents. Overall this was complex enough and quick enough in pace to keep me interested to solve the murders, although I think I would have had preferred it to be revealed in a less gory way.
I was just reading the blurb to see if I fancied reading this when I mistakenly hit the buy now button. All I can say is what a fortuitous mistake that was. I couldn’t put it down.
This book is a must for anyone who enjoys time slip or a family mystery set in two time periods. Note it is not a time travel story but rather two stories of family members from different times intertwined.
There is joy and sadness in both time periods along with an age old murder mystery to be solved.
Definitely worth a read the dual timeline keeps you gripped throughout. Kept me guessing all the way to the end, would have been nice if the ending didn’t feel so rushed but still 5*!
I enjoyed this book, it was an interesting story with a fair few twists and turns. although I was slightly irritated by the typos scattered through the book, which a proper proofread should have picked up before publication.
Some parts of the story line were unnecessary and felt dragged out but overall it was intriguing enough to keep me invested and I finished this in one day. I usually don’t like dual timeline reads but I really enjoyed the older timeline.
A really good read never read anything from this author before a great story . Spans many years people who lived and worked during wars t the settled 70’s super .
I enjoyed this novel with the dual timelines. The story of the ring kept my interest and the fact that it wasn't easy to "solve" the story after a few pages of the book. Very interesting story of how the ring moved from place to place from timeline to timeline.
Really enjoyed the duel timeline, probably preferred Celeste’s era compared to Stella. Although an interesting storyline I did lack motivation to read at times.
