It's New Year's Eve 2008, and best friends Magnolia Butler, Rebe Richardson, and Darla Clark, all born in 1969, are about to turn the dreaded 4-0 in January 2009. Magnolia, a New Year's Day baby, is childless, and always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Rebe, the mother of a college-aged daughter named Trinity, has just gone through a divorce from a man whose sexual appetite far exceeded her desires and abilities.
Darla is also a New Year's Day baby, still mourning her husband's death after five years. After way too many glasses of champagne, Rebe, challenges them to open their minds in a way they'd never done before, daring them to try something new...sexually. Sixty-Nine is a liberating story about sisterhood and friendship, and about how past experiences and beliefs can influence one's views about life and sex.
Sixty-Nine is a Novel that tells the stories of three (3) friends that are turning 40 and vowing to open themselves up to things they've been closed to, to take chances and/or change things that need to change. As the stories unfold the readers get to indulge in all the different facets that make up these changes, personal growths and self-indulgence.
Pynk wove very interesting stories that are full of details and enlightenment and keeps you engaged from beginning to end. The paths that these friends take are similar in some ways and vastly difference in others. These are stories that one must experience to enjoy and/or understand. If you like stories chucked full of adult contents, adventures and experiences then give this novel a whirl and you may do as I did, order her others ones.
I thought this was the author's most complete work to date. This book represented more thought and talent over raunch and unrealistic drama that seems to be so popular with certain other authors.
The book helps women to understand, it's ok to talk about sex no matter your background. Speaking up about different things you like and dislike about sex. Learning your body inside and out.
BRIEF SUMMARY It is New Years Eve 2008 and best friends Rebe, Magnolia and Darla are out celebrating. Each best friend was born in the year of 1969 and will turn 40 years old in 2009. Looking back at their life, they all made a challenge to themselves for the upcoming year that will alter their lives in 2009.
THOUGHTS
I’m so conflicted with this story. While reading it, at times I said what am I reading, and then at other times I couldn’t help it and continue. The strange part is I read this book in one sitting for a book that I found conflicting to me personally. Following Rebe, Magnolia and Darla was exciting and crazy; when you thought you had them figured out, you’re either shaking your head or rooting for them. The challenge that they gave themselves on New Years Eve/Day was one that will change all their lives. And definitely will give an interesting read.
BREAKDOWN: Rebe I thought was the innocent one out of all three girls, but she got it in… through out the story physically. I felt she was going through midlife crises to do what she did at her age, I felt she was bi-polar, and she didn’t get mother of the year award from me. But her past surely determined her future and present. I was sort of ok with her ending but it happen how it happens.
Magnolia, I felt her life was a constant repeat of her storyline. She had inner desires but it felt repetitive. She had an ex that wouldn’t leave her alone. However, she did find her happy ending and I was happy for her.
Darla, I felt got the bad end of the stick in this story. Things prevented her from opening up sexually and she kept fantasizing about her dead husband. I know she found it hard to move on, but after 5 years she still didn’t have it together. She also had money issues. But her ending was pleasing, though felt a bit short changed.
Although I seem negative about each character, you put them together and you can’t help but get hook to the story. Sexually, the author delivered, although the title is not a reflection of what’s inside the book. However, Rebe’s first encounter did reflect the title.
Storyline: FAIR Intimacy: D.R.I.P (Don’t Read In Public) / VERY SPICY Enjoyment: GOOD
SIXTY-NINE by Pynk Published by Grand Central Publishing Hachete Book Group ISBN 978-0-446-56333-8 At the request of The Hachette Book Group, an ARC TPB was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion. Synopsis: It's New Year's Eve 2008, and best friends Magnolia Butler, Rebe Richardson, and Darla Clark, all born in 1969, are about to turn the dreaded 4-0 in January 2009. My Thoughts and Opinion: I started reading this book thinking it was going to be about three long time friends who are facing the big 4-0 and seeing their individual perspective of what it means to each of them. Both looking into the past and what they are hoping for the future. I truly thought it was a typical chick lit read. And even though it has been a few years that I have passed that milestone, I really thought it was going to be the type of novel whereas you become part of the characters' lives. It started off that way with chapters alternating between the three ladies and their lives with some sexual undertones that were, understandably part of the story line. However, after reading over 100+ pages, I then realized that the sexual undertones were not just an undercurrent but the main premise of the book. I don't consider myself a prude by any means but when the story turned to very graphic and erotica descriptive chapters, that I felt took away from the actual concept of friendship and lives, I knew it was time to set this one to the side. I would have continued reading it if it was written with more of a substantive storyline with sexual undercurrents. My Rating: 1
Three friends, all born in 1969, are together on New Year's Eve 2008 to bring in the milestone year and, in two instances, their birthdays. Darla is still mourning the death of her husband more than five years ago and does not know how to move on and live again. Rebe is recently divorced from her gridiron, cheating husband and raising a college age daughter. Magnolia wants to be married more than anything and keeps going back to things that will block her wish. These three best friends have all made a pact to make this year their banner year and breakout of their routine.
"Sixty-Nine" explores the choices these women make in their efforts to grow and blossom into the next stage of their lives. Full of action and consequences, these women will learn how far they are willing to go to achieve their goals and how low they can go in the journey. There is plenty of drama to fill this sexual tale of learning and growing as some learn how too much of a good thing could really go bad. Share a laugh, shed some tears and get mad as you delve into the lives of the women of "Sixty-Nine." I recommend this to readers who enjoy a coming-of-age story and are not afraid of a little sex. Pynk has once again told a sexy tale with a lesson to be learned.
This is the story of three friends, Darla, Magnolia, and Rebe who are undersexed. The were all born in the same year, 1969. They are about to turn 40 and want to make their lives better. The story starts on New Years Eve.
When I first read the title, I knew it was going to be an erotic book. I was surprised though that the name of the book was because of the year they were born and not the position (although, Rebe found herself in quite an interesting position!) I didn't know how much of a great story would be included with all of the erotica though. I really enjoyed how the characters learned more about their sexual needs and grew as women. It's so important to have friends that you can confide in. These three friends had great advice for each other and I really read through this book quickly! The end was quite a surprise too!
If you are looking for a great erotic book to read, look no further! I recommend that you read Sixty-Nine.

I loved this book and I even learned so much from it. The author was right about not letting the name fool you into thinking it's all about sex. It's about feeling empowered enough as a woman to admit that you love sex and that you enjoy being pleasured. It speaks to the thoughts that prevent us from not only fully enjoying sex bit not truly living our lives to the fullest. I am and neither is she talking about reckless behavior quite the contrary, the book is about letting go of inhibitions negativity and the what will people think syndrome insert mama, papa etc. doing you
I enjoyed reading about Rebe, Magnolia and Darla I enjoyed seeing myself in Darla being raised the "good Girl" and realizing that I do have quite a bit of bad girl in me but its okay. Ladies get this book enjoy it and take notes it will improve your sex game
This book was flirty, sometimes fun, but mostly frustrating to read. Frustrating because although this book is mostly erotica, it felt like at times the author was trying to convey some sort of "deeper meaning or message." There were way too many corny one-liners and cliches used for me buy into the whole sexual freedom theme. The 3 women the story was centered around were so shallow and self-involved that I had a hard time caring about anything that happened to them. Parts of the book were ok, but there was just too much wrong with it for me. I definitely will not pick up any more books by this author. I have no problem reading erotica in general. What I can't stand is erotica disguised some sort of empowering message to women, ugh!
I received this book from First Reads at Goodreads.com.. This was a fanatastic book based on 3 women turning 40. This book is a very well written book with a tasteful opinion on moving out of sexual reprieve that sometimes holds us back from what we want.
This book took a while for me to get into. So, by the time I finally got in the middle I was really disinterested. But, I finished it and it was just ok. Didn't pack quite the punch her other novel did.
I didn't expect to like this book, thinking it would be in the vein of Zane. But it was pretty good. Good writing, well-drawn characters, intriguing storyline.
I don't know why the author has such a silly pen name though. :)
