Hard to believe this book dates back from 2010, that feels like ages ago. And yet, many ideas are still relevant in the age of MS Teams and YouTube (while holographic technology is nowhere on the horizon yet).
In the first minute, engage people so that they don’t tune out immediately. Instead, make a pact with your audience: “Give me your undivided attention for the next 25 minutes (never more than that!), and you will …” – here’s where your state what’s in it for them.
A lot of the book is about what we can learn from TV broadcasters, which you can replace with YouTubers in your mind: Keep the pace quick, never waste a second of your audience’s time.
It contains lots of advice and templates on how to make the virtual presentations successful. I found it focused more on video presentations, than on webinars.
I was close to the point of returning the book. After an hour of reading I realized that I was almost at the half of the book and I hadn't read anything new. I felt that I paid too much for such a short book. Then I got to the one chapter that gave me an idea how to make my future presentation energizing, and I decided to keep it. I found the second part of the book more useful to me.
Although there were some stories in the book, I found out that there was lots of space for adding more stories to make the ideas easier to be understood and to apply.
Excellent book. Many practical skills on how to present virtually. The book pulls forward the skills of presenting face to face and adds the layer of the audience without a face.
Recommended for anyone who leads webcasts, teleconferences and virtual team meetings.
Like many other things in our times, the presentations have gone “virtual”! To achieve excellence ... practice, after reading this book. Aplicable ... in any business!
