Rate this book
Following their war against the Deargh Du, the Lamia have refocused their efforts toward controlling the Church of Rome, using it as a tool for amassing greater power and wealth.

In Éire, fissures have formed in Deargh Du society, threatening to break apart the once firm foundation of the Balance.

In the midst of these events, a new menace threatens the Balance within the Holy Roman Empire as vicious murders of both mortals and blood-drinkers spread throughout the empire like wildfire.

Can a hastily formed alliance between archenemies thwart this new menace, or will festering hatred bring about the empire's doom?

Continue the journey... the third in a series of stories revolving around the Deargh Du through the ages.

Best vampire novel I've read since Dracula. loved the new twist with different races and their varying abilities. Held my interest through out the entire book and made me want the rest of the series. Well developed characters and vivid scene descriptions enhance the readers experience so you can feel like your actually there and a part of the story. Overall excellent book that I would recommend to anyone.

I won this from Goodreads and enjoyed it a lot. I look forward to reading the rest of the story as they come out. The book has a really good story line but you really need to start at book one and read through it all to get an understanding of everything and why some of the characters hate each other so much.

[NOTE: I have revised this "review" with recent updates.]

With our first novel, Morrigan's Brood, readers probably didn't notice until the end that the story arc continued into the second novel, Morrigan's Brood: Crone of War. We have taken a similar approach to Dark Alliance, in that the main story arcs continue over three novels: Dark Alliance, Curse of Venus, and Shards of Light.

This new tale of the Deargh Du takes place in the early 9th century CE during the reign of Emperor Charles I, who many know as Charlemagne or Karl der Grosse. Historically, in this era, were great conflicts between the Franks and the Saxons, Emperor Charles and Pope Leo III, and the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. We thought this was a ripe backdrop for storytelling.

If our readers have been keeping track of the years our works take place within, they will notice that Morrigan's Brood: Crone of War ended in 564 CE, whereas Dark Alliance begins in 801 CE. What happened in the last 237 years?!?!?! I have an answer...

Heather Poinsett Dunbar and Christopher Dunbar have written two short stories that cover some of this gulf of time, and we have published them onto Goodreads for free download. They are packaged as Madness & Reckoning.

So enjoy your reading experience, and check out our blog for updates!

Love!!
There are so many vampire books out at the moment and so many of the are the same.
Then finally some originality with a fantastic back story, and the vampires themselves, i love the idea of different lines of vamps stemming from the deities of different cultures.
I've said this before but i had lost hope of reading a great original vampire book since Anne rice's master works (Love you Lestat)
But i think these books equals them and that makes me ectsatic!
Its going to be a long wait for "the Curse of Venus"
