Wow! I actually really liked this book quite a bit more then I thought I would! Now, please keep in mind this is NOT your typical romance. This is an erotic novel and there is a LOT of very explicit sexual activity in it!
The story takes place in a court room setting with Tessa explaining to a jury of her peers why she is there. So the book goes back and forth from the court room to Tessa's story. This really worked well. It helped to show just how vital Tessa's situation was.
Tessa started out as a human who was turned into a vampire by her "best friend." I truly don't understand why Tessa would ever call Mel her best friend or why she would go to the lengths she went to in order to help her out. I found Mel to be a completely selfish, self centered and self serving witch. But I don't want to give away any spoilers so I will let you see why.
The world and the people are explained in such detail you feel as though you are there and you personally know each and every person who is introduced. There is no detail left to our own imagination! Ms. Ashton covered it ALL! There are a lot of twists and turns in this story and it really kept me entertained and guessing what was going to happen next. The plot was very interesting and very well thought out!
As I previously stated, this is an erotic novel. You can expect some very vivid and explicit sex scenes. I should mention that these scenes by far outweigh the actual story development in each chapter. There are a lot of bondage and domination scenes. This book heavily contains many f/f scenes, orgies, m/f, m/f/f/f.....did I leave anything out? If you don't care for these types of scenarios, this book may not be for you. I must say I don't really care for these scenes myself, but the story Ms. Ashton tells in in my opinion worth the time and money that will be spent on this read. I truly believe you will be surprised here!

Tessa's friend Mel turns her into a vampire because she needs help seducing the priest she loves. However, the priest betrays her and Mel is taken away by the Legion of Vampire Hunters. Tessa, a new vampire all alone, turns for help to Carlos, a sadisic alpha-male vampire whose sexual prowess is legendary and who keeps a trio of beautiful vampire girls as a personal harem. Carlos agrees to help - but only if Tessa submits to him.
Except she won't, and I love that about her. How rare and wonderful to find a bisexual female vampire who doesn't obsess about an alpha-male. No, Tessa is the star of this novel.
If I have one complaint, it's that Tessa doesn't drink blood. But otherwise... Very well written and intensely erotic.
