I really wanted to like Something Wicked. I really did. Unfortunately it failed to capture my attention.

In the wake of her father's death, Maddie, a young witch, has several problems ahead of her. In the small town of Mercy Crossing, the townspeople seem to have no mercy on the Wisdom family. You see Maddie comes from a long line of witches, dating back to the end of the 1500s. The story goes that Maddie's ancestor once cured the whole town of a plague, all except a town rival. The rival's husband got a little peeved and the ancestor was condemned as a witch and was to be hanged. However, the tree wouldn't kill her and instead she danced for two hours and eventually they let her down. Generations later the very same tree is intact, and is a constant reminder of that day both to the Wisdoms and the townspeople. Needless to say Maddie is a social pariah and is constantly being scowled at and having to dodge rocks being thrown her way.

To add fuel to the fire a killer is loose, raping and brutally beating young girls. Of course with a town full of people who hate her, Maddie is the first and well only one to be blamed for the murders. Adding to her frustrations is a lone wanderer, Will Harper, who happens to breeze through town when Maddie has to deal with this whole ordeal. With having to deal with her fiery attraction to Will, an ex who just can't take a hint, the mourning of her father, and having to prove to a whole town of ignorant people that she is indeed not a murderer, its fair to say Maddie has a lot on her plate.

Even with all of this as a backdrop for a good read, it unfortunately was not. The reveals were way to easy to guess. I mean, even Scooby Doo put in a little more effort with reveals. You know where the story is headed right away. It was too slow a pace, dragging the story out desperately longer than it needed to be. This book focused more on the sensual elements, than the actual "magic" theme. For me it needs to be shortened and edited much better than what it was.

They say don't judge a book by its cover...well the cover is totally awesome and I really just want to read it for that reason only. The story doesn't seem to be my type, hopefully when I get my hands on it, it would be as great as the cover. I'm reading over my comment and I feel like an idiot saying all that, but hey, it's the truth :)

Good story. It seemed like the story was unravelling too quickly in the beginning, but it paid off in the end.

I picked this book up at a yard sale for $.50 because it looked like a vampire thriller.I read it and really liked the beginning up until everything that you expected to happen actually happened.
