As a revert from Christianity to Islam, this book is most interesting. It explores the early encounters between the two religions/civilizations. It ranges from the death of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh)to the end of the 16th century. Essentially, the Islamic world in the beginning was the custodian of Greco-Roman knowledge. European civilization acquired this lost knowledge via the Arabic translations of the original texts. However, by the time of the Ottoman Empire. The Islamic world had lost all interest in the Christian world. Consequently, they failed to take advantage of new insights and technologies, such as the printing press that developed in the West. This is the beginning of the scientific and technological downfall of Islamic civilization. If only the Ottomans had paid greater attention, perhaps the Islamic world would be mightier than the West today.
