When a little girl discovers a talking frog in her pocket, he tells her the enchanting love story between a stable girl and a prince, but before he reveals the ending, he hops away, and the girl chases after him, but when he disappears down a hole, an amazing and rollicking adventure ensues.
Ha! This book is hilarious! A fairy tale of the mixed up variety. Jane has the most magnificent pout, and the frog is quite good at telling stories... Plus there’s a dotty old woman who makes potions.
Do you adore stories that are a touch impish? That take an unexpected turn just when you thought you had them figured? This is just such a story, a mixed-up fairy tale featuring a verbose mischievous frog who may or may not be enchanted, spells gone wrong and a very sensible girl who doesn’t like frogs or foolishness, thank you very much. (If this sounds a lot like a certain Disney movie, you’re not far off the mark.)
Filled with the colorful and detailed illustrations of Barbara McClintock (who gave the wordless tale of an enterprising cat and the deceitful tom who married her), this story propels us along with its exasperated heroine to reveal not just one but two enchantments.
This is a surprising twist on an old fairy tale and definitely for children who want something a little different than the old Grimm fare.
