This is a wonderful collection of stories that do justice to the title. Since they require some knowledge of the world and how it works in order for the reader to understand where the silliness applies, they are primarily for children to read rather than have them read to them. Yet, that would work as well, and the stories are naturals to have the adult reader include intonation changes for emphasis.
While a few of the stories use some of the previously used themes, most of them are quite different from the familiar style of fairy tales. If you are looking for a set of fairy tales with a bit of imagination that bounces a bit sideways, then this is a book that will satisfy that craving.

4 1/2 stars * Enjoyed this a lot, lots of silly stories perfect for 6-10 year olds. Also if you are doing an English language GCSE your story writing skills would benefit from reading this book. It teaches kids to have fun with writing and just to be silly, not quite as perfectly executed as dr suess. Nonetheless all are charming stories that encourage us all to enjoy using our imagination in day to day situations.

Even though it doesn't show it here, the cover promises to be an artful adventure like no other. However, as my dear friend Bree compares books to food this one proves to be potato chips. Flavored air that does little to satisfy hunger. Some illustrations were fun, but as a whole - no substance, silly or otherwise.

Great read-aloud stories for grades K-2. Stories are about 10 pages and poems are 1 or 2 pages. The illustrations are excellent and colorful and the stories are delightful.
