This edition is no longer available. A rerelease is planned for late 2016/early 2017.

What if there was a parallel dimension in which magic was a real and necessary part of keeping the political and economic balance - and someone was now stealing that magic?

Elryk Muyd’omir is the most powerful lightning wizard born on Tah’Nut in two hundred years and a pacifist. When he refuses to co-operate with the illegally ruling Xoh’kas family they torture and kill his lover. Rather than risking the death of thousands by losing control over his lightning magic in his rage, he flees to Earth - a place without magic. When the gateway that connects Tah’Nut to other worlds opens Elryk knows that the Law Forces have found him. It is time to either face cruel punishment or fight.

Kaythan Vs'urr is a Law Force Commander who is sent to retrieve the criminal wizard Elryk. He is expected to return him to Tah'Nut for ‘reprogramming’. Secretly disgusted with the Xoh'kas' lack of determination to stop the magic thieves, he has decided to win Elryk for his plan of defeating them. All they need to do is find the fabled Magic Shield to prevent further thievery.

Can Elryk trust the gorgeous Law Commander who wants his help? Will the two men be able to work together to defeat the Xoh’kas and eliminate the magic thieves?

I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.

Living and working in eight countries has taught me that there is more than one way to get things done. It has instilled tremendous respect for the many different cultures, beliefs, attitudes, and preferences that exist on our planet.

I like exploring those differences in my stories, most of which happen to be romances. My characters have a tendency to want to do their own thing, so I often have to rein them back in. The one thing we all agree on is the desire for a happy ending.

I currently live in Canada, sharing my house with a vast collection of books. I like reading, traveling, spending time with my nieces and listening to classical music. I have a passion for science and learning new languages.

Oh, man! There were like these little mini cliffhangers at the end of each chapter that made it so hard to put down instead of keep reading! So fair warning! If you are looking to read this one, make sure you have the time with no interruptions because seriously, it was so tempting to keep reading and I would have if my eyelids weren't drooping because I was so exhausted!

I loved the world building. It was unique where the world is based solely on magic and not technology. It was interesting to say the least especially with the different levels of authority and the like (Magic Council, Law Forces, Ruling Assembly and House of Justice). I have a soft spot for anything that has to do with elements so I fell in love with the elemental powers.

Elryk and Kaythan (who I shortened to Kay) were quite interesting. They start off as enemies because Elryk is a wanted wizard and Kay is a Law Forces Commander. He has an obligation to find, capture and arrest Elryk. Instead, he has other plans. Elryk also ends up turning himself in first but nonetheless there's an air of enemies-to-lovers that I just couldn't resist. It doesn't take long before Kay convinces Elryk he never intended to turn Elryk in but instead needs his help in defeating the ruling Xoh’kas family and stop the magic thieves stealing people's magic. It comes as a big shock to both of them to realize they are mates and Elryk no longer has any of his magic.

This starts them out on an adventure to reclaim Elryk's powers and in the process strengthening their mate bond, which is the first to exist in two centuries. They have to go to certain chambers to reclaim each element, or Magic Key, and using it to capture the Magic Shield.

The only problem I had was (and this is solely my problem) the sex. There wasn't even that many sex scenes but I just wasn't in the mood so when they finally consummated their bond, I just wanted them to hurry up and get on with the adventure again!! Like I said, though, there's not much of it just that I was totally not in the mood for any smexing. At all. :-( But, I loved Serena's writing enough to actually read through them. Lol.

Overall, an excellent start to a series. Absolutely recommended. I can't wait to see where this series goes... and you know, I'd like Nysat's book ASAP, thanks, Serena ;-)

A magical adventure!

I really, really liked this story. It was adventurous and fast paced. I thought the world was creative and unique. At first, when I saw the glossary at the beginning, I was freaked and worried that it would be confusing. But surprisingly it was very easy to follow. I don't know why, but for some reason I felt like I was in a magical video game; each new chapter was like moving a level up and finding a new challenge and more puzzles for Elryk and Kaythan to figure out .

There were quite a few sex scenes, but they were all mostly short and didn't hinder the story at all. Most were actually important to the story line, although I would have liked for it to have a little more sexual tension. Elryk and Kaythan was so cute and sweet together. Not really much angst at all after the first few chapters.

I definately will be looking forward to the next book in the series.

When the wizard Elryk Muyd'omir, in 'The Magic Thieves' by Serena Yates, makes the decision to return to his world to stop an invasion of Earth, the last thing he expects to find is an ally in Kaythan Vs'urr, a Law Forces Commander. Although Kaythan is planning to meet Elryk and enlist his cooperation in defeating their world's corrupt government, he also has no idea what he's getting himself into. Neither man even suspects the level of intimacy which will be involved in completing their mission.

The notion of soul mates, two people being compatible at every level, has been around since ancient times, but the mate bond in ‘The Magic Thieves' takes this concept to a much higher level. Elryk and Kaythan soon realize if they are to succeed, they must learn to cooperate at every conceivable level, becoming an interdependent extension of each other. Another plus of this unique bonding is their exceptionally sensual love making. Serena takes full advantage of this by providing us with some very steamy examples. Even though their couplings are intense, sex isn't just physical gratification for Elryk and Kaythan, it's as necessary as breathing. They literally draw strength from each other's touch.

Serena truly outdid herself with 'The Magic Thieves'. Her intricate imaginings astounded me. Her detailed world building was amazing; including a unique language, the varieties of magic, levels of government, and varied scenarios with interesting twists. I have to admit that, even though I was entranced with it all, it was a lot to absorb; I became a bit bogged down at certain points merely from the plethora of information being presented, but I persevered knowing that I would be rewarded and was not disappointed.

Because of its depth and breadth, 'The Magic Thieves' can be read on many levels. It can be enjoyed as fantastical adventure full of interesting characters and unique situations; read at a deeper, more philosophical, level contemplating fairness, cooperation, honor, truth and love; or last, but certainly not least, it is a magnificently crafted, extraordinarily passionate love story involving two men who learn the amazing ability of love to conquer all. Whichever path or combination of paths you choose, it will most assuredly be a sensational journey.

Published today, this is the first book in my Scrolls of Vengeance series. It is set on the planet Tah'Nut which is located in a parallel dimension where magic instead of technology has driven progress.

In this first volume the magic thieves interfere - and steal the planet's lifeblood. Elryk Muyd’omir is the most powerful lightning wizard born on Tah’Nut in two hundred years and a pacifist. At first he runs from the illegally ruling Xoh’kas family, taking refuge on Earth, a planet without magic. But when the gateway that connects Tah’Nut to other worlds opens Elryk knows that the Law Forces have found him.

Kaythan Vs'urr is a Law Force Commander who is sent to retrieve the criminal wizard Elryk. He is expected to return him to Tah'Nut for ‘reprogramming’, but has his own plans. Can Elryk trust the gorgeous Law Commander who wants his help? Will the two men be able to work together to defeat the Xoh’kas and eliminate the magic thieves?

Enjoy!

Wow! I just could not put “The Magic Thieves” down once I started reading. Elryk Muyd‘omir, a wizard, has fled to Earth from the planet of Tah‘Nut, which is ruled by the cruel and oppressive Xoh‘kas family. Tah‘Nutian Law Forces Commander, Kaythan Vs‘urr, has been sent to Earth to hunt the wizard down, but things do not go as either of them would have predicted.

The two men form a “mate bond” and begin a quest to bring down the Xoh‘kas family. What follows is classic fantasy mixed a sexy romance as Elryk and Kaythan have to overcome their own fears as well as fight the evil forces that would stop them. It is just brilliant. I really love Serena Yates’ stories, but this is even better than I’d expected. Highly recommended.

I've read it for a challenge and was really dissapointed. The adventure was probably the best part of the book but really not that great since the challenges were not exactly that complicated. As to the whole mate idea, and you have to know that I like mates usually, but not this instant lust/love.
The relationship and the plot failled to engage me since the character's were rather flat. It was not badly written so the two stars and for the idea of the plot, which could have been done better.

This book had me hooked from the very first sentence. The plot was unlike anything else I've ever read and I loved the concept, it was interesting and kept me guessing.

The main characters were great and I enjoyed the journey they went on together.
