Remember what your mother used to say? She used to say a lot of things. So did all our mothers. Well, in case you forgot or weren't paying attention, here is the wit, wisdom, and worry of mothers of every race, religion, or ethnicity, otherwise known as Momilies. Smile, as you relive those years in an instant, "You're not the only pebble on the beach." "It'll never get well if you pick at it." "Don't run with a lollipop in your mouth." "Always put on clean underwear in case you're in an accident." . . . and many more! And for YET more, there is MORE MOMILIES.
Oh boy! Did I count a few that I remember. Gave this book to my mom - was wonderful to hear her laugh out loud. Moms have a way of saying things that goes right through you; my mom is so observant (when it comes to me) that it is really scary. One of my moms favorite 'momilies': "I already know the answer - so don't even try lying to me!"
Momilies..Things you heard in your household while growing up. You have never forgotten them. I have told my children some of the same things. All these sayings were meant to keep the child safe and protect them. "Pride goes before a fall" "Sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite" A fun little book with big truths.
This book made me laugh so hard! Some of the things said in this book is complete nonsence, but most of it is tried-and-true advice that has been passed down from mother to child for generations. A lot of the things that I have heard my own mother say so many times before I was able to find in this book! I absolutely delighted in reading this!
This is a super cute book! Now i know not to swallow a pit of a cherry, because a cherry tree will grow in your stomach, that tan fat looks better than pale fat and that its nice to be important but its more important to be nice. Haha! There are so many cute 'momilys'!
I reserve 5 stars for books that are of special significance, books that will last the test of time, books that are , IMHO, destined to be considered a classic, and recommended for all. Intellectually, I know that that isn’t true of this little book, but I want it to be true sooooooooo badly, that I am giving it 5 freakin’ stars. It is hilarious, and quite a few Momilies in this book also came out of my mother’s mouth. Some are wise, some are silly, some are sooo out of date as to be uproariously funny!
Highly recommended to anyone who had a mother or a mother figure in their life, or knew someone else’s mother.
I just reread this. I reread it because I was going to talk on being a mother of adults. I believe it has been on my shelves since the 80's. They are one liners spoken by different people's mothers. Generally, they make me smile. "Never learn to iron a man's shirt and you'll never have to." "The only thing that counts in a job interview is clean fingernails." It goes on in that vein.
Easy, funny, enjoyable read. I hear my mother's voice. This book was published in 1986 and the rules of parenting have changed so that many of the lines familiar to me from my childhood are now illegal.
I reread this little book that was a Mother's Day gift several years ago. It was interesting. I would have liked it better had the names of whose mother it was referring to by each photo instead of all together at the very end.
Short and sweet, things your mother used to say. Got a few giggles because they are so true! One they left out is priceless to me, as a reader. Turn the light on or you're going to go blind.
