Daylen is a cop, and a good one. When she discovers two men sword fighting in an alley during one of her nightly patrols, she confronts them, ordering them to put down their weapons. One of the men takes off running, surprising her with his speed. With one man left, she knows she'll have to take him down when he ignores her demands. With her suspect in her grasp, her world turns upside down when he pins her to the ground and kisses her senseless.
Jager knows no wilting flower, werewolf or mortal, would ever survive as his mate, but this cop has all the right moves. Her scent leaves no doubt this mortal woman is his, and after tasting her lips, he knows claiming her will be a challenge. The bigger problem, however, might be her obsession to arrest him whenever they meet. As their passion flares, he'll do anything it takes to make her his mate.
Marisa Chenery was always a lover of books, but after reading her first historical romance novel she found herself hooked. Having inherited a love for the written word, she soon started writing her own novels.
She writes young adult and romance books.
Marisa lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, four children, four grandchildren (she's a young grandma at fifty), and five rabbits.
I was actually really enjoying this one for the majority of the book. By no means was it a four star read, but a solid 3-3 1/2. Then one scene was just too ridiculous for words and completely lost me and I stopped reading it because I was so annoyed (and since all of the books are practically the same so I already knew the ending). I was seriously tempted to give this 1 star, but since I had been enjoying the book, I had to give it 2.
I spoilered what my issue was, although it really was not a major plot point.
I am determined to finish these books, if only because I have them all. It is just really disappointing because I see so much potential in all of them, and they all seem to have very different plots, but so far Chenery has not really done anything with them. They all somehow manage to become near clone copies of the first one - only since they just keep getting more and more characters (each book has all of the previous characters in it) they are just getting out of hand, while at the same time nothing really ever happens.
Daylen is a responsible cop looking forward to getting some time off from pulling night shift duty when she stumbles upon two men sword fighting in an alley. Jager is one of Roxie’s Protectors; a group of werewolves meant to protect the prophesized foretold one. Jager is in the middle of taking down an enemy when Daylen interrupts. There is an instant attraction but it goes beyond that when Jager realizes that Daylen is his mate. But how do you convince the one you love that you belong together when she keeps trying to arrest you?
This was a fun and sexy, but very quick read. The action scene at the end of the story felt a little incomplete and I would have liked a little more development in the relationship between Jager and Daylen, but I was happy to read about the updates on the other characters, so I look forward to seeing more of this couple in future installments.
This is book two in the Roxie’s Protector’s series and a spinoff of the Wulf’s Den series, but each book can be read as a stand alone. The author makes it easy to catch-up on the story, but word of warning, once you get to know the other characters, you’ll want to go back and read the rest of the series. I’m a fan now and will be picking up the rest of both series.
Jager's mate is just as the other books of Roxie's Protectors series a short story but also just the right lenght to fill your night. If your in between series or waiting for that special book. Don't just sit around, there are plenty of good author's to fill that place. If your in for a hot book you need one from Marisa Chenery they are a series but can also be read as stand-alone. She already published alot of them so you don't have to wait to read the next one!
Jager's Mate had a natural pace and everything is explaned well so you don't get the feelig you mist out on some details from the previous book. This was a fun, light and sexy, but very quick read. The action scenes at the beginning and end of the story felt a little incomplete and relationship between Jager and Daylen was a little bit to easy accepted by Daylen for my opinion. I look forward to readings more of the Roxie's Protectors series.
What Is It About: Jager is a werewolf and one of the protectors of the foretold one, Roxie. When out one night following one of the men trying to hurt Roxie, Jager is almost arrested by Daylen. Daylen is cop and when she's about to arrest a man for fighting with a sword, he kisses her. Daylen is Jager's mate but he needs to work around the fact that she wants to arrest him every time that he sees her.
What I Liked and Didn't: Another case of where my dislike of short stories comes up. The plot was skimmed over so quickly and the build up of the relationship was complete bull. Sure, the plot was a bit better than the first book but when I read the blurb I thought that there'd be at least one normal character because you would get arrested if you were found fighting with a sword. But no, Daylen starts kissing and crushing on Jager and just completely ignoring her job and the law. But it doesn't matter anyway because she has to quit her job eventually because of the stupid couple withdrawl that means you can't be your own person anymore. Blech, it's a bit annoying. I also find it hard to believe that she could beat a guy who has been studying how to fight for hundreds of years and is a werewolf just because she's a tough woman even though she's mortal, I call bull on that.
Final Thoughts: Another big rant and another review where I wonder why I even gave the book a two star rating. I suppose it wasn't a struggle to read and it was a bit better than the first book. But I can't help but wonder if making it a full length novel would make it better or worse because the plot kind of sucks. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not, there are waaaay better shifter romances out there than any of Marisa Chenery's. Will I be carrying on the series? Yes, for the sole reason that I gave them decent ratings when I originally read them four years ago and I refuse to leave them at that high a rating when I'm not liking the series.

I read the first book in this series and had a few reservations about it but I didn’t want one book to prejudice me against the author and the series. I really wanted to like this book. I love the premise of sword-wielding, wolf-shifting warriors who live hundreds of years, searching for the chosen one in order to protect her great power from falling into the wrong hands.
Jager’s Mate is pretty much the same story as Roan’s Fall. The wolf shifter senses his mate, pursues her, fights the enemy for her, the heroine comes to terms with what he is, they mate and it’s over. The dialog was predictable and a little hokey at times. I found myself skipping parts of the story because I’ve already read it in the previous book.
What I do like about these stories are the characters. I find myself wanting to know more about them and their histories. I enjoy reading about their easy camaraderie, the way they banter and joke around and most of all, how they would lay their lives down for each other.
As I stated in the previous review, the author has a great idea for the story. However, by breaking the story up into smaller books it is taking away from the overall integrity of it. If the plot was more detailed and all the smaller stories combined, this would be a great read.
I definitely didn't enjoy this book as much as the last one. I think descriptions of Jager's character in the previous book provided so much potential that this book did not live up to. But the two major things I did not like about this book: 1. Roxie, chill out. Obviously you have some issues you need to deal with regarding your own mating but please do not force your beliefs on everyone else (even using position to enforce a bogus and ridiculous set of "rules"). I completely understand trying to help other people because she has experience but it was definitely taken too far. There is just no need for that level of obsession over other people's matings. That part made me very uncomfortable and concerned for her mental health. 2. *SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT* I'm sorry Daylen but you shouldn't be able to beat Jager. I get that it was trying to show how worthy she was but it's just not feasible especially since she hadn't been trained by any of them (yes I realize she knows karate and is a cop but it's not the same as training with swords, wolves, and over-six-and-a-half-feet-tall men). I think that if she had lost but fought at an almost equal level they would have allowed her to be admitted and participate "in the field" with some training.
With that said, don't worry I will be continuing this series (mainly because I can't wait for Leif to fall :)).
Daylen is a SFPD officer and loves her job. But then one night during a routine patrol, she sees a sword fight in a dark alley and ends up almost arresting her soul mate Jager for carrying a concealed weapon.
This reminds me of the ‘Highlander’ TV show, especially the first part.
I like this couple. Daylen is going to make a wonderful addition to the group, but the escape at the end was way too easy.
I expected Jager to be a little more upset over his losing to Daylen, but then I guess that just mean he’s confident enough n his masculinity to not let it bother him.
Fave Scenes: sword cuddling, the wolf in the bathroom and Daylen & Jager’s one-on-one fight.
As a cop, Daylen is not sure what to make of the two men fighting with swords in the dark alley way. Deciding the best course of action is to bring them in, one flees on foot while the other is more than willing to talk to her, smell her, and kiss her.
Jager was in the middle of following up on a tip when his mate appeared. The only thing standing in his way of claiming his mate is her desire to arrest him whenever shes sees him, which is something he plans to change.
I thought this was a fun one. Jage was one of my favorites from the book before always weilding his sword around and blunt statements.
Okay this seemed unfinished to me. The abrubt ending just didn't fit at all it left to many unanswered questions that could have been answered within this book not the next. But, with that said Jager was hot I really liked him and was wishing that he would just take his sword and chop off Roxie's head with it. I never did like her she's so annoying.
