Justine Korman is the author of over 600 children's books, including mega-selling adaptations of Disney hits like THE LION KING, plus her original popular GRUMPY BUNNY series for Scholastic.
Justine has been writing all her life. She worked part-time in publishing while earning her B.A. in English Literature, Phi Beta Kappa from New York University. While an editorial assistant at Golden Books, she met her future husband and partner, Ron Fontes, an artist in the Whitman Comics department, who moved on to mighty Marvel Comics.
When Justine started getting freelance writing assignments, Ron pitched in and a children's book writing team was born! Ron brought visual storytelling, theatre, and history; Justine enthusiasm, humor, and a straight-A attitude.
In 1988, the couple moved to Maine, where they have written everything from beginning readers and novelty books to historical fiction and graphic novels. Justine's hobbies include fitness, juggling, gardening, cooking, and playing the ukulele. She also enjoys making movies with Ron.
The prolific couple's goal is to write 1001 children's books.
On the first page we meet a young lady who say, "I am Shari Zodd, and I know a thousand and one tales!" Well, that introduction was clever but not necessary.
Several tales follow, but I found it more confusing than entertaining. Pick a tale of two and stay with it. This is a jumble likely to make kids chuckle but not leave them with much of an understanding. I'm not even sure how many tales are included ... I'd have to go back and count them.
This is one of the funnier children's books that I have ever read, I read this to my young son and he laughed at the tale of a camel in search of a hump. The author, Ms. Fontes is a wordsmith and writes for the imagination of a child, Well done.
The fact that there is more than one story included in this book explaining how the camel got its hump, it makes it quite confusing for the little ones, as they of course want to know which story is the real one.
This is one of the many Little Golden books which were so popular several years ago. This book discusses several cultural explanations of how the camel came to have its hump. The reader gets to peek into different worldviews as to origins of animal creations. It's funny as the horse gradually morphs into a camel with various features which make it suitable for traversing the desert sands. The camel's attitude plays a significant role in how it develops and is viewed by others.
Such a cute book for young children. Plenty of humor, lots of imagination, magic, legends, animal interactions, colorful and detailed pencil drawings, and quick pace. The book ends with a guide of different camel features which make them well suited for the desert. Also puts in a new play for the words 'Hump' and 'Humph!'
This is such a cute book. ALl the golden books are such a wonderful addition to your classroom. Kids always enjoy this book and you can have them write how something got something.
