A Thin Line

Rate this book
Kate finds herself locked up in her apartment building’s laundry room. It’s the middle of the night and there’s a man with her. Which would be the great start of a horror movie, except this is real and thankfully the man isn’t that bad. Actually, he’s quite nice. Oh, and hot. He’s a neighbor she’s seen a few times, the playboy with the golden looks. And as they find themselves sitting increasingly closer in an effort not to freeze to death, hands bump into parts of her body that haven’t been touched in years.

It could have stopped at that: one night of pleasure, albeit in a weird location. Except it doesn’t. Even though she knows Jace has another girlfriend, she still opens her door to him every night. He is addictive. And sometimes, he’s even nice. But what happens when the drama finally takes its toll and she bars her door to him?

What’s starts off as a man using the literal girl next door (or downstairs, whatever), turns into the realization that he’s living the life he thinks he’s supposed to and not the one he wants. When Kate made it clear he can’t have his cake and eat it too, he pulled his head out.

Wow, only a few pages in and Jace is pushing all the right buttons in the sexy department.

My only complaint is I dislike when the narrator constantly switches back and forth.

And then reality body slams you and Prince Charming is a toxic asshole. Poor, Kate I know exactly how she feels.

There’s a part of me that wants to hate him and the story but in the end I can’t help but love it. Especially loved his confession to the reader at the end.

No matter how great other people think this book was/is i just cant accept or get involved in the cheating scene...i dont care how down to earth, from our lives and so on Kate is. She should have cut it before it started...i cannot accept being the second woman, no matter his reasons or whatever...an he should have cut it with the fiance if he wanted the heroine so bad. I like stories with women that have a bit of flesh, me being one of them, so thats why ive got this book, but honestly, half of the book i was mad at one of the 2 main characters...but thats just my opinion...

I just loved this story!

Kate was such a great character. She was "real." I liked that the author didn't make her some skinny supermodel. She had real, deep emotion that made her a person that we all can relate to.

I was right there with her on the other side of the door, practically screaming "Don't let Jace in," at the middle of the story. I felt so bad for her. She wanted love not use.

Once I learned that Jace had his reasons, I started to like him a bit more but was wary of if he would really do the right thing. The end was perfect. The phone call break up in the elevator just solidified my feelings for him and when he told he dad to tell Liz sorry I was cheering!

As you can see by the subtle cover, this is a cute little piece of erotica. Quick and dirty (cough) story about a chubby girl who falls for her hot and amorous neighbor who she boinked in the laundry room the first night they met. Lots of angst over him having a girlfriend but still coming to her for a toss. There's also the girlfriend's father who wants a man who cheats for his rich, spoiled daughter. Gotta love a dad like that. Not as bad as I thought. I was looking for a wallbanger and found it not so much. So, if you're in the mood...

I fell for that cover. Its the only good thing about the book. The guy was a total dick that already had a girlfriend that wouldn't have sex with him unless she had a ring on her finger. So he goes to the h to slate his needs and even though she denies him she gives in each time.

=======================================
Spoilers

So it starts off with them locked in a dark laundry room at like 3 in the morning, they talk a bit, both get cold, ends up with him holding her, he's suddenly cupping her breasts

“I’m just warming you up. See?” He enclosed her nipples between two fingers, rubbing them one way then the other.
Then he tells her he's horny

“Live a little. And if you’re worried about protection, I’ve got a condom in my wallet.”

"...Come on, baby, I wanna fuck.”

Is this guy supposed to sound sexy? because im laughing my head off!
Of course this chick is up for it saying its a 'incredible opportunity' so why not right?

he pushed inside her. Hard.

“Fuck, yeah,” Jace growled as he felt her walls enclose around him. “You’re so tight.” He slid out then rammed back in, making her gasp again. “Yeah, baby.”

Three months later with him still dating his girlfriend and having the h on the side. This is him showing up at the h appartment to get laid..

he glared at her as he asked, “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“No-nothing.”
“I’ve been banging on the fucking door for hours! What the hell, Katie?”

“I…I don’t think we should see each other anymore. I can’t do this. I just can’t.”

“The sex?” She nodded. “Why? You can’t really expect me to believe you don’t like it anymore. You were screaming my name just last night, baby.”

and of course she gives in.
and another thing..
This guy looovees anal.

“I want your ass,” Jace said, his eyes flashing as he grabbed her waist and pushed her to her stomach.
Kate sighed as she felt the soft comforter underneath her. “Again?”
“Yeah, I can’t seem to stop wanting you that way. You’re so fucking tight, I love it.”

Another moment of him banging on her door for sex

“Katie! For fuck’s sake. I can’t believe you’re pulling this again!” “Katie! Open the fucking door!” “Come on, you know you want me. I know you do.” “KATIE!” Footsteps then, “You hid the fucking key, didn’t you? Are you proud of yourself?”

What a jerk the way he speaks to her.

In the end he dumps his girlfriend and he and the h get together and live happily ever after. That's pretty much the entire book

Matter of fact this books greatest achievement was in how God awful it turned out to be.

I am certain that somewhere along the line someone was held at gun point to get this book published.

Ronica’s Review

This quick and dirty short story is about a liaison that starts with Kate and Jace locked in a basement laundry room over night. And the relationship progresses, so to speak, from there. Based primarily in the apartment complex where both main characters live, this book is a fast read with naughty sex scenes and a hot-blooded relationship. Add in Jace’s daytime girlfriend and Kate’s need for a public connection, and everything heats up to a big finale.

I liked Emma and totally empathized with what she was going through. Some men are nearly impossible to turn away, no matter how much they hurt you, and I was so glad when she found her spine. It was hard for me to like Jace, but he finally broke through when he pulled his head out his ass.

I liked this book. It was a good short, steamy read. Would have been cool if the author would have put a bit more angst into it, but still good.

OK, I really, really liked this one A LOT!!!

***Potential SPOILER ALERT***

Jace (H) is a jerk but he cannot resist Kate (h) & continually visits her, but only for his sexual release & pleasure. Unfortunately, Jace is engaged to another woman: a model gorgeous & very wealthy woman whose father can ensure Jace's success in his career.
Kate is drawn to the seriously hot guy that lives in her apartment complex & cannot resist him although she tries to do so without success.
And night after night Jace wheedles or begs or seduces Kate into 'one more' encounter until he's shocked to find Kate finally manages to do the impossible: she ends their relationship.
And then Jace sees her on a date with another man.
Now Jace must decide: does he give up his perfect fiancé & a guaranteed successful lucrative career or the sweet loving woman who ignites his passions & heart?

3.5! Not really a fan of books with cheating but I tend to like some with exception and unique circumstances. This one had similar. Like he wasn’t cheating on the h but with her on his gf. A gf he never slept with and was clearly with her just for professional gains and image. And there were no scenes showing him being affectionate towards her. She is barely mentioned. So it kinda worked for me ? Which I wasn’t expecting.

0.5 star.

I really regret reading this book. Not because of the writing style but because involves cheating.
This book made me so mad. UGH!

The MC has very low self esteem and her neighbor takes advantage of that uses her for sex. She is his dirty little secret because he's engaged to a hot and frivolous girl.
It does have an HEA but I still didn't like the "hero".

I have to say the cover lured me in.

2 Stars because this book had so much potential but, I guess, was written hastily? The sex was great, okay. Very graphic and detailed which is an A+ for me but whatever detail it had was what detail it lacked for the entire plot, like, 80% of the book had Jace and Kate fucking and the 20% was a mix of basically everything.

I didn't know Jace was a professional to the point of having an assistant until the end of the book. I seriously thought he was either an aspiring athlete because of the profession of Liza's father and I was an expecting an explanation on how her father new about Jace fucking Kate for months, hello? What the fuck was that detail there for? And what happened to Kate and her job because it didn't look like she was working at all. I don't even know her profession through out the book.

It would have been a great angsty book but damn was it written in a cluttered mess.

A sweet, quick read showing the human side of us mere mortals! This was a good read but not at all what I expected - I was expecting something dark and this was light and sweet. I liked it, so it was a nice surprise on that front
The story is of two tenants in an apartment building who start an affair after ending up locked in the laundry room together. She develops feelings for him and can no share him with his girlfriend, and while he resists her attempts to push him away, he respects her wishes, eventually. Trouble is, he can't stay away from him, and she can't resist him. While the ending clinches the sweetness of the story, there are parts throughout, besides the justifiable temper tantrums, that lend to how sweet he really is!

WOW, hot sex but other then that I really didn't like this book. He used her for his own good and didn't give a thought about what it would do to her. Made her feel like a whore - god I hate him. Even at the end when he supposedly redeemed himself. NO just no, no one should be walked all over like that and still love the person who did that too them. She was a weak heroine and I would have smacked her if she was a friend.

I struggled with this one. It was hot but as a social worker and a survivor of domestic violence I couldn't ignore all of the DV red flags that kept popping up. There's a big difference between a strong alpha character and one who uses power and control over others. Sometimes I can't shut off reality and just read to enjoy, this was one of those times.
