Time Life Books does a terrific job in providing the reader a broad overview of the Uboat war under Karl Dönitz with focusing on various specific Uboat missions that were of strategic significance. The reader walks away with a comprehensive understanding of strengths and weaknesses of the Uboat's themselves, improvements on technology from both the German, and British (and American) sides, along with the development of the "wolf pack" tactics employed by Uboats against the Atlantic convoys during World War II. Well done Time Life Books, I highly recommend this read.
One of the Time Life Series on the Third Reich. It was pretty good - I hadn't read much on U-boat warfare, so it gave me a good overview. I've been on the U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and it was nice to see photos of the sub in the book. I wish they would have said if it was before or after the sub was modified to accommodate tour groups.
