I joined Corporate Finance, at what was then Standard Merchant Bank, at a momentous time, 1 February 1990, and spent almost 20 years at the Bank.
I was extremely fortunate to have worked with many remarkable, extraordinary and decent people.
The focus of this book is unapologetically humour, anecdotes, stories, human interest and personalities. It is about the people I have admired and the quirky, colourful, interesting and outrageous idiosyncrasies of their personalities.
The office environment is a social environment where friendship and camaraderie can thrive giving rise to banter, repartee and amusements.
The content derives substantially from Standard Bank, but there are also chapters from sojourns at Brait, Anglo American, Fisher Hoffman Stride, the army and even from my current incarnation – as “CEO” of Laroki Corporate Finance – one of the top 1,000 corporate advisory firms in Johannesburg.
This book is about fun, or as my late father would have said; it is about “The Power of Fun”.
