2004. A survey of the background and challenges related to urbanization leading towards the possibilities for ecological living in cities. Includes some history on the origin of cities and economic development and includes information on urbanization in lesser-industrialized countries. Ends with the Eco-polis concept, a vision based on renewable energy, innovative transit systems, walkable cities, healthy communities, and local economic development.
