Walipini Design and Construction

This practical guide is designed to help you budget, plan, design, and construct an efficient and successful walipini, or earth greenhouse. The prototype discussed in this guide was a compilation of general gardening principles and engineering principles. Contributers to the original plan included cadets from the U.S Air Force Academy's engineering department and two 2 engineers by trade, as well as the owners/builders, who were aiming to improve their self-sufficient homesteading goals. The guide was written after the prototype had been actively producing part of the family's food for 6 years.
