Many of Graham's readers blame him for sleepless nights, arriving to work late, neglected dishes and family members, and not allowing them to put the book down.

Beyond Justice is an amazing and awesome book. I was hooked and feverishly captured within the first few pages. Graham puts readers deep into the pit of a man's worst nightmare - what if you lost everything, right down to your freedom and self?
I had a physical reaction to this book - my heart was racing with fear, anger, and sadness for Sam Hudson, the main character. The book puts faith on the line - do you have it, will it get your through, how much is enough, how much is too much?
Forgiveness lies at the center of this novel and its characters. I found myself stepping into the character and asking myself - would I forgive? Several characters in the story have people and events to forgive, as everyone does, but how does one make that leap when sheer evil is involved and you're there with it face-to-face? Is there anything not worth our forgiveness? Will God indeed forgive *all* and does He really expect us to do the same? These are the tough questions that are raised in this debut novel by Joshua Graham.
This is a book that is in serious need of an editor. I read it on my Kindle. While the story got off to a great start, by mid-book I was bored. I'm not sure whether the print edition has as many grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors as the Kindle edition, but it was quite annoying. There were also several events that were overwritten and too over the top such as many of the court and prison scenes. Also unbelievable was the story that DNA evidence was unavailable until several months into the trial. The book should also be billed as a Christian/religious thriller. I'll likely not read any more of this author's work.
I wish I could think of something nice to say about this book, but I really can't think of anything. It was plodding, predictable, unrealistic, and I was relieved to finish it so that I could forget Graham's novel as quickly as possible.
If you enjoyed the movie Facing the Giants, and you believe in a God who provides elect individuals with supernatural and psychic visions, prophetic dreams, poetic justice, material goods, and happy endings; if you like cliches and flat characters; if you enjoy Christian novels that are as deep and Spirit-filled as a thimble; if you want to read a legal thriller, but you are afraid that reading books like The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly will corrupt your soul; then you have found the perfect book to read. Ignore this review and dive right in.
I cannot understand the 4+ star ratings on this book. There are so many grammatical and spelling errors, not to mention that he can't even keep his own character's names straight! Who proofread this book for him? Didn't anyone in his family read this book before it went to print? On more than one occasion he has two different names for a character. The legal process on this whole case is so unbelievable, hardly any of it would actually happen in a real court case. As a nonfictional book, I'm willing to suspend belief only so far. At $0.99 I actually feel ripped off!
This is one of the worst books I have ever read! It is overly long, with pointless details that don't move the story forward. The characters are one dimensional and never developed into anything more than either a person whose sole response is to punch and choke someone, or one who prays. Dialogue is trite and predictable. Author doesn't really understand the environment he's writing about as evidenced by his inability to flesh out scenes with any authentic details. What should have been a taut psychological mystery plot ended up as merely boring.
I have heard that the words of Matthew West's song Forgiveness was inspired by a woman's story to forgive the drunk driver who took the life of her child. The same conclusion can be reached by the conclusion of Beyond Justice by Joshua Graham who is rapidly earning his way to the top of my Most Wanted Author list. Beyond Justice is his debut novel written back in 2010 and I don't know how I missed it up until now. The message is as relevant and powerful as it was when it was written and it is definitely for those who are finding it more than challenging to forgive someone for something they did to them. This is a highly recommended novel for that very reason.
Beyond Justice takes us in the heart of what all of us would dread, to come home after a long day of work, anticipating spending time with our spouse and kids. Expecting nothing out of the ordinary, Sam Hudson is a bit puzzled by the fact his security system isn't armed when he arrives home, but doesn't think too much about it. His wife Jenn has been having issues with arming it, and since she is home it doesn't seem at all out of the ordinary. Sensing a romantic night awaits him as he enters his home, he finds Jenn has lilac candles waiting in their bedroom hoping to surprise him. That is exactly what he gets when he opens the door to the bedroom to find her laying in bed, stabbed multiple times. Grabbing his cell phone, he frantically dials 911 and she whispers to him to find the children. Not wanting to leave her side, he rushes to his daughter Bethie's room and discovers the same thing. She is laying in bed with multiple stab wounds and a slight pulse. Rushing to his son's room he finds a bloody baseball bat on the floor and his son barely breathing under the covers.
It is more than any man could ever hope to handle, but it's just getting started for Sam as one by one his house of cards begins to fall as he watches his family carted off in an ambulance while the detectives begin to suspect that Sam is more than innocent in his claims. All the evidence seems to point compellingly back to Sam and no matter how much he sticks to his pleas that he is innocent, the evidence keeps stacking up against him. Will he be able to prove his innocence or will he find time to wrestle with the reasoning facing the death penalty behind bars? Only time will tell.
I received Beyond Justice by Joshua Graham compliments of Partners in Crime Book Tours and Dawn Treader Press for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This is a true suspense novel in that you literally can't see what's coming from that blind corner. I LOVE that! Too many times, the authors give it away too soon and thus the need to finish the book is lost, but not this time. Joshua maintains that same level of intensity from the beginning until the ending you never saw coming. It is the basis for grace and forgiveness coupled with a spiritual element that can only be God inspired! Well done Joshua Graham. I easily give this one a 5 out of 5 stars. For those of you that love a great murder crime mystery novel, trust me and pick this one up. You'll definitely be wanting more!!!
The author takes you on a never forgettable read with Sam. Sam arrives home to find his wife barely alive, his daughter dead and son severly beaten. He is accused of these horrible crimes. No one believes you, the cops take the easy way out. It is always the husband or is it because the detective in charge of the case had a grudge against men. Found guilty Sam gets life. In the prison it was the hardest part of the book to read. Racist prisoners, fights, anger and guards who only looked out for themselves. This novel is loaded with nail biting crisis in the prison. It kept the book going at a fast rate. What would you do to keep your sanity and thrust other to find your innocence. I really liked the balance of this story of mystery, legal, some romance, believing in God and friendship. I have never read a legal thriller before and I can assure you that I will be reading many more. They tend to draw you in. An unforgettable read that stays with you. This book renews your faith that God is always there with you if you take the time to listen and see the signs. Many thanks to the Partners in Crime tour for allowing me to take part in the tour.
Funny just a day or two ago, Nook on Facebook asked the question about when was the last time you read a whole book in just one day? I couldn't remember, I don't know if I had. For sure I read the Blue Nowhere, by Jefferey Deaver in one weekend, but certainly not in one day. Well, I now have an answer, I started Beyond Justice yesterday afternoon, and just now finished it, less than 24 hours later. This was an incredible book! I absolutely could not put it down! What an incredible story! From the beginning when Sam Hudson's family is murdered, throughout his trial and conviction, his years in prison and ultimately his finding faith and believing and/or trusting in God... "Everything is going to be fine" what more can I say? A powerful story of one man finding faith and the will to go on, after losing everything, after suffering indescribable pain, but somehow he manages to survive. Truely amazing.
This is a very intense book it certainly took my emotions for a wild ride, an exceptional work i would like to say. Joshua Graham really knows how to manipulate emotions it's unlike other crime mystery novels from the first 10 pages i was hooked i just couldn't put it down although had to and it was torture. This book is all about faith, forgiveness, courage and never giving up. The ending totally different from what i expected but it was sooo good it brought tears to my eyes. i would say that it teaches us a lot of things about faith and forgiveness. the main character that is Sam Hudson is put through so many emotional and mental tortures and then expected to rise above them with very little hope having lost almost everyone he loves and then being imprisoned. A must read.
Graham grabs a hold of you from the first paragraph and doesn't let go. A very well written book that is a true description of a page turner. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy a GREAT christian suspense. Unfortunately, what happened to Sam Hudson can happen to any of us. Hudson becomes a victim in more than one way. He falls prey to not only a vicious, hardened serial killer but to the 'justice system' as well. There are not enough words to praise "Beyond Justice" or Joshua Graham. Very well done and it definitely deserves 5 stars!
Great story by Joshua Graham. Christian fiction is not a genre I usually read. After reading the horribly disappointing "The Shack", I was a bit hesitant to read this one. Joshua's story was a great ride from start to finish. Not overly preachy or metaphysical, it was simply a great thriller. I even found myself thinking that the church mentioned in the book was one that I would actually visit! I look forward to discovering more of his other titles. Thank you, Joshua!
Terrific writer!! A 5-star writer. I would say that this was an exciting book and a real page-turner. I'm anxious to read more of Joshua's books. His compassion and passion are both evident throughout these pages. Amazing story that will keep you on the edge of your seat! So hang onto your hats when you first pick up this book - you're in for quite a ride :)
Excellent book! A man is forced to face a tragedy in his life and his world is shattered. Can it get any worse? With nothing to hold on to and no faith to sustain him,he is befriended by his neighbor, a Pastor. His journey is a page turner to the end.
Literally horrible. About as intellectually stimulating as Pretty Little Liars but with an overbearing religious agenda. Over the top, unrealistic, nauseatingly religious.
Wow. Graham's debut novel is a strong first effort that has me looking forward to reading his follow-up novel in a couple months. Graham's short stories worked so well because they grab you right away and move at break-neck speeds through the story so that you're flipping to the next page to find out what happens next and his full length novel isn't much different. This is a strength of the book most of the time, though I will say that there were times were I think narrative could have slowed the pace and dove a little deeper into some of the more compelling or moving moments in the book. To give you an idea what I mean, the book is ~430 pages long or so and there are ~100 chapters or so, so the average chapter is between 3-5 pages long before you pick up the next thread in the story and move on. This kept me riveted and I blew through the book in a couple nights, but it did create some challenges in the story.
One of the challenges that the pace introduces is that the characters are not fleshed out very deeply, beyond just what the narrative of this story throws at them. You know next to nothing about Sam or Rachel (the two main characters) in this story beyond what you learned about their characters in the context of this story. Finally, and the last slightly negative thing I'll point out is that there were a few times when I thought things happened to easily (Brent's conversion) or implausibly (Sam visiting his son while still a prisoner) because the pace of the story didn't really allow for the events to be fleshed out in a way that made them more realistic. Bottom line, you fill in a lot of the gaps in the story yourself which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different than I'm used to in a novel like this.
Those relatively minor issues aside however, and I want to be clear here, I *really* enjoyed the book and intend on reading through the rest of Graham's backlog as well as pre-ordering his upcoming novel. The story had plenty of twists, turns, action, mystery and a lot of heart in places as well. Also, as someone who tries to live the way Christ taught us we should live, I really appreciated his portrayal of what a "church" (body of believers) should look like in our culture. Not judgmental, preachy, or trying to convince someone to accept a set of facts or pray a collection of words that = get into heaven free card, but just loving those around them by being the hands and feet of Jesus to people who are in need it like Sam found himself in this story needing.
While Graham's a bit like Ted Dekker in some ways (gripping, intense thriller with lots of twists), he's definitely got his own style as well. Recommended to all fans of Koontz, Patterson, Dekker, Michael Connelly or any other thriller/mystery/action type author.
I will give you fair warning before you pick up Beyond Justice by Joshua Graham - - the next 24 to 48 hours of your life will be utterly consumed by this book.
I can be an intense, all-inclusive reader but it takes a special book to have my unconditional and unwavering attention from page one to the conclusion. Beyond Justice does just that; it draws you in from the first page and literally does not let go of you or your emotions until the rollercoaster conclusion.
Author Joshua Graham has managed quite a feat in writing a powerfully gripping legal thriller, featuring a brutal serial killer, that includes thought provoking views on faith and divine intervention. Neither the brutality of a merciless killer nor the religious overtones are too graphic or overwhelming to upset readers who generally do not prefer genres of either type. The legal aspects are hit upon hard, most especially dealing with a criminal trial and wrongful conviction. Even knowing that central character Sam Hudson would be convicted and imprisoned, my heart remained in my chest while reading of the trial and the horrors awaiting him in prison.
I was absolutely captivated by Mr. Graham's writing, leaving me with a strong emotional connection to Sam and his adopted family of supporters. I liked Sam, I thought him a realistic and endearing character and more importantly, I cared about Sam. I wanted him free and exonerated and I wanted justice for him. To say Sam's story was mesmerizing would be a gross understatement. Sam's story, told through the able pen of Mr. Graham, is inspiring in every aspect. Sam isn't a believer in God in the beginning of the book and does not become a believer due to the horrors his family is subjected to, nor due to his imprisonment and branding as a "family killer". It's a gradual process in which he truly sees the light.
Was there anything negative about Beyond Justice? I am a very particular reader in certain aspects. Typographical errors make me crazy and I have been known to put a book down due to such errors or inconsistencies not caught by editing. While I did notice typographical errors throughout the book, absolutely nothing short of an act of God or nature would have stopped me from finishing this book. That's how unbelievably powerful and spellbinding this book is. Beyond Justice is not a light read; the story will stay with you long after you finish it.
I would highly recommend this book to any reader looking for a strong and powerful story, period. The legal thriller and spiritual aspects are just icing on top of this very substantial literary cake. Do not hesitate. Rush to get your own copy of Beyond Justice.
The writing in this book is so vivid. Graham uses common language -that we all know and recognize- and twists it. For example: "Hell hath no fury... like a boy who has lost his Thomas Train toy." While not a particularly funny book, lines like these had me laughing one minute while the plot had me crying the next. The story is one that will hold a reader's attention the whole way through, being a story that has been told many times- a man wrongfully accused and convicted for a crime he didn't commit- but still reading in a fresh and new way.
Also, it must be said that the only thing that I like better than a spicy romance or snarky females is a well-written court scene.
It is super hard to write this review without giving away spoilers.[CB1] Beyond Justice is a coming of age story about a man, Sam, who- after being convicted for killing his wife and daughter and spending over a year in a high-security prison- finds Jesus and devotes his life to Christ. After he is released, God tests his faith by bringing him face-to-face with the real killer and asking Sam to forgive the killer as Sam had been forgiven by Christ. Most of us are familiar with that Bible verse, but I wonder how many of us actually practice this forgiveness. It is a lot to ask of a person. And whether or not Sam is able to do this herculean task- well you will have to read the book to find out.
I will say this: Beyond Justice is, first and foremost a story about a crime being committed and the characters that the crime influences. Graham does a beautiful job of using Christian principles and teachings without making this book preachy in any way, making the book enjoyable for Believers and Atheists alike. Add in a firm grasp on the English language and an emotionally engaging story, and Beyond Justice proves to be a book that you will want to add to your library for sure.

In Author Joshua Graham's riveting legal thriller, Beyond Justice, the reader is taken on an exhilarating emotional roller coaster ride that will leave them breathless.
San Diego Attorney Sam Huston is accused of killing his wife, Jenn, and daughter, Bethie. All this even while his son, Aaron, who he is also accused of assaulting, clings to life. Wrongfully convicted and sent to death row, Sam tries to make sense of the devastation of losing his family, while trying to prove his innocence. Interwoven within this powerful story is Sam's journey through the justice system where he learns about himself, life, loss, heartache, faith, forgiveness, justice, and redemption.
Sam's story is simply captivating, you can't help but get drawn in as his journey unfolds with thrilling twists and turns that will make your heart race, and keep you sitting on the edge of your seat in suspense. The author does a wonderful job of bringing Sam to life and describing his raw emotions and the devastating turmoil he went through on his journey. The reader will experience the full gamut of emotions as they turn the pages of this powerful and compelling story.
Author Joshua Graham weaves an intriguing tale that intricately delves into the murder, the justice and prison systems, and Sam's journey of self-discovery, faith, forgiveness, and redemption. I loved how the author blended a realistic mixture of suspense thriller and spirituality within the storyline, and his faith based moral message of the power of God's grace and mercy was inspirational and provided much food for thought.
Beyond Justice is a fast-paced, riveting, and deeply moving Christian legal thriller that will resonate with you long after the last words have been read.

This was an interesting book to review. Having read the blurb, I was really looking forward to reading it. The plot was incredible. It was extremely well planned; a couple of times I thought I had it worked out, but it surprised me. I like not having something predictable to read, where you can guess the ending or how it is going to work out long before you get there, and Beyond Justice was certainly able to keep the suspense going right the way through, and still have a couple of surprises left for the end. The characters were very believable, you could feel the emotions of Sam, as he went through each obstacle that was put in his journey, and almost ending up wanting to shout about his innocence when the justice system was blind to the truth. I could feel my own frustration rising with what was going on, the ability of Joshua Graham to drive that in the reader, should be particularly praised. I especially liked some of the prison characters, the way the various factions were portrayed felt very real (not that I have any experience to base that on, you understand!) Pastor Dave was also a favourite; it was nice that despite everything he had been through he was still prepared to stand by Sam throughout. Overall I wasn’t disappointed by Beyond Justice, the pace was a little slow for me, but it fitted the story well, so this was really a personal thing. I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes legal thrillers, and anyone who wants a book that doesn’t pull it’s punches, and keeps the reader guessing as to how things will play out.
This book was so much more than a mystery novel; it was an exercise in faith, understanding, joy and mercy in their purest forms. Graham brings Sam Hudson to life with his anger, loss, love, frustration, fear and his ultimate belief in this book.
With his beloved Jenn and precious daughter Bethie stabbed to death in their own home, Hudson clings to the hope that his son Aaron will somehow make it through surgery and come out of his coma to recover, live with his dad and readjust to life without a mom or sister.
Although I figured out who the perpetrator was, there were still twists, turns and surprises to be found here. This novel is filled with so much in the way of emotion. How do you go on when you’ve lost most of what you hold dear and are accused of being the one who did it? While in prison Sam discovers many things, the most important being himself and what he’s made of deep down inside. With his in-laws gaining custody of his son, they eventually decide to take him off life support and Sam gets no say in the matter.
He makes many friends along the way—in prison of all places—and gets to see his son for what he believes is the very last visit. Take the time to read this book. You will not be disappointed.

I have been so lucky to have read so many 5 star books lately. Beyond Justice is right up there with the best.
The story starts off with a bang and only gets better and better. It was so easy to put myself into the shoes of Sam. How horrible to come home to your family slaughtered, have your son hanging on by a thread and then be blamed and convicted of doing this crime and be sent to death row. Sam found his faith while he was in prison and that helped him hang on and keep going.
This is not always an easy book to read. The opening chapters are graphic and will tug your heart. Don't be surprised if a tear finds its way down your cheek. You will find love, determination and how faith can change a person in-between the covers of this book.
While at times I found it just a little bit preachy, in the whole big picture of the story it fit, made sense. This is more than just a mystery, more than just thriller, it's in a word terrific!
If you love a good thriller then pick up this book, you will not be disappointed.
This is one of the best books I've read in a while. I'm not usually one for crime books, but I had heard so many good things about this book, that I decided to pick it up. The first 50 pages were pretty hard to get through, because the action starts right out of the box. But things just become so intriguing and interesting, that I kept moving forward at a high rate. The last part is really good.
The story is about a husband who comes home to find his family attacked - his wife murdered, his daughter raped and murdered, his son beaten, but alive and in a coma. Before long, he is accused of the heinous crimes. The only ones who believe him are his wife's former pastor and members of her church. As he fights to clear his name, the deck is stacked against him. But the journey teaches him many things about God's grace and mercy and power.
What will happen when the true killer is found????
A real page turner, especially in part 3. A surprise ending and much we can take with us as we close the book.
Captivating. This was an absolutely amazing, and page turner of a book. One of the most captivating book I've read. I read the excerpt of the first three chapters in Accidental Hero and I knew I had to read this book. This book will consume you, you'll yearn for to continue reading, the need to know is so compelling that until you've completed this book you will rest again. It makes you ask yourself questions about your own life. You'll pray and have a little or a big talk with God. And that's okay. My heart went out to Sam and his family, this guy literally lost everything. Tried to put myself in the character place, asked myself what would I do? Thank God most people are compassionate and willing to help with no strings attached. If you want a five star book read Beyond Justice. Gosh, Joshua! You made me cry. (Shaking my head). Thank for an awesome read. Wishing you all peace, love and soul.
In Beyond Justice, Joshua Graham tells us the story of Sam Hudson's personal hell. The tale is eerily reminiscent of The Fugitive which is a favourite of mine - well the movie is anyway. (come on - young Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones? Who could resist?) Sam's tragedy is threefold when he arrives home to find his wife and daughter dead and his son beaten into a coma.
The detective who railroads Sam into prison is one Detective Anita Pearson - and did I ever hate her! Mr Graham knows how to develop his characters. It was the characters and their distinct personalities that pulled me past the Fugitive deja vu and into this story on its own merit. I enjoyed working against Detective Pearson and I felt the trials and triumphs of Sam as he struggled to reclaim his shattered life.
Beyond Justice is well developed, interesting and not at all preachy for Christian literature: easy to read and easy on the sensitivities.
This book hooked me from the start and it was only half-way through that I realised it was Christian fiction. This is the first Christian fiction I have ever read. The plot is great and the story well-written. You have a successful lawyer who is accused of murdering his wife, murdering and raping his 12 year old daughter, and clubbing his son with a baseball bat. Quite violent, gruesome crimes. The story is written in the first person, and what I really enjoyed is that you felt that you were experiencing everything that the wrongly accused man felt. The writing was descriptive, yet unflowery, and I liked that. There were times towards the end when the Christian message seemed a bit contrived, but it was doable because the story and writing was so great.
Actually 4.5 Stars. From my book review blog Rundpinne "...Beyond Justice delves into the sick world of child pornography, murder, scandal, abuse of the legal system, and to balance it out, the novel is also about love, redemption, and truth. Hudson crafts a brilliant thriller filled with unforeseen plot twists and character behaviour changes unlike no other. Graham’s cast of characters is not only diverse, but also extraordinarily believable. ..."The full review maybe read here.
what a STUNNING debut novel!!!!!!!! i don't usally read books that involve religion but i love Joshua Graham's short stories so i decided to give it a go. i'm so glad i did! from the very first page to the very last page i was enveloped in the story. i cant recall a single page that didn't have me at the edge of my seat. just when you think you have things figured out, Joshua has the knack to pull a fast one on you! i must admit that there were a few times i definitely shed some tears....some happy, some out of distraught. Joshua.....kudos! i can't wait until your next novel!
Excellent writing, very suspenseful with a gripping storyline. There is no doubt that Joshua Graham is a talented author. My only problem is that I am simply unaccustomed to reading a book with that much strong language. While I personally prefer there to be none, I don't mind there being some. I just felt this book could have used a little less. Again, just my personal opinion. Other than that, I would give this a 4.75 stars.
The action in this book started as soon as I started to read it. I was immediately drawn in and had a hard time doing much else! Wonderful plot and characters who I actually liked. I didn't realize it was a Christian novel but that was fine with me. I have read other Christian books and have enjoyed them. The book has a great message. I found the ending very emotional. I had a good cry! I always feel a good book invokes emotion and this book did just that.
