As with all DK Eyewitness guides, this is packed with information, photos, maps and plans of towns and buildings. Everything you need for a trip to Norway.

April 2, 2023Cannot decide how to rate this travel guide. Somewhere between a 3-4 stars. I borrowed the 2022 version from our local library.
- The beginning "Discover" section is very interesting reading briefly covering history and showcasing wonderful pictures from all over Norway. The detailed maps are disappointing since it was missing many of the towns and fjords that I'm planning to visit.
- A very large portion of the book is about Oslo which I'm not planning to visit.
- The "Experience Norway" section BRIEFLY covered some of the areas I plan to visit. I did enjoy that there were 6 pages on Trondheim where we plan to walk around and absorb the town on our own.
- The "Need to Know" section gave insight to things that I didn't think about needing to know and that I've not found on the internet yet.
All in all if you never thought about visiting Norway this travel guide would persuade you that you are missing out not traveling there.

Disappointing
I used to collect all the DK eye witness series as they showed you what others only described. They also made great souvenirs of travels. If this is anything to go by I won't be buying anymore.
I chose the kindle version for the first time.
Plus side you can jump to any linked page or google map.
Downside. Where have all the illustrations and photos gone?
Unless you're going to Oslo which had comprehensive section the rest is very light on info let alone pictures.
We visited Tromso and Bergen and found DK added nothing to our experience that we couldn't have found out elsewhere and better explained.
The introductory section on history, food culture etc seemed to be briefer than other country books.
At least as far as Norway is concerned DK seemed to have lost the charm and usefulness of their series.

The first chapter Introducing Norway was very good and gave a brief but helpful insight in Norway culturally. I very much enjoyed seeing the page spread on Norway's regionals folk costumes. Also, the street by street illustration of Oslo was also very interesting.
The bulk of the book is Oslo by area and Norway by area which goes into more detail about what to do and where to stay in Norway. These are particularly helpful if you are planning a trip to Noway, but sadly I am not. 😭 Hopefully, one day I will and I'll certainly be using this book!

Roadtripgewijs veel leeskansen gehad en veel van opgestoken!
Naast natuur en wandelingen dit jaar ook Samische cultuur opgesnoven, geschiedenis van de Vikings en Lofotische visvangst verkend en Noordelijker geweest dan ooit tevoren (waarvoor een nieuw boek nodig was). Dankzij dit boek de heerlijkste verse zalm in mijn leven gegeten!

July 7, 2023Like most DK books this has lots of great pictures but I found it a bit hard to follow in planning our trip because it jumps around and isn't presented in the most logical order or with the greatest clarity.

Unfortunately, printed travel guides do not date well, this is no exception. Found so much outdated information on Oslo and Bergen in here that I had to cross check everything online. Disappointed!

A good foundation of information for a tour I am about to take, but if I were traveling on my own I would get a Lonely Planet guide for more detailed lodging and dining information.

Highly recommend this whole series. I have many for countries or specific cities & find them all jam packed with current & relevant info (updated continuously). They all include tips on history, currency, hotels, restaurants, shopping, medical, how to get around, rail/metro schedules, customs, attractions, hours of operation & much more.
They are small & easy to carry around & I always use the maps provided inside detailing city streets & location of attraction & transportation lines.
Each also has insider knowledge that you don't immediately think of but is very helpful & gives a variety of options for everything, depending on your budget. Mine are frequently borrowed by friends & family before they go as they help with initial planning, not just when you get there.

I've used these Eyewitness travel guides a dozen or more times in various places, and though each guide varies in quality, depending on the writing and editorial team, the format is consistently useful. The photos are sumptuous and the organization quite good. While there may not be as much background for some of the lesser sights, there's plenty on the major ones. Useful maps, essential travel info, and concise sections on eating and accommodations round out each guide.
I find these books especially helpful when I'm in the early planning stages of a trip, to get a general sense of where I might want to go and narrow my focus.

Excellent resource as always. Beautiful photographs, detailed illustrations, and easy to read maps. What makes this guide definitive is the inside information on what to expect when you arrive and getting the most out of your stay with great tips and advice. A page is dedicated to the Norske language, but believe me when I say it will not help you. Norwegians love when someone goes out of their way to learn their language, and once you can fluently speak and understand it, your trip to Norway will be twice as memorable.

Reading in this book and watching the pictures and illustrations gave a lot of 'fore fun' while planning our holiday.
We were quite optimistic... Staying about 70 km. further west of Oslo,we thought,we could go on a daytrip to Bergen and hike there :) We had no idea that there were al lot of mountains between us and Bergen.
Maybe we were naive, but we had not found it in the guide too. It was a bit of a disappointment.

This is a really excellent guide to Norway, with detailed descriptions of each main area and city/town. There is a good balance between pictures and text and a good selection of choices for different budgets. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to travel there and I'm looking forward to my own visit later this year.

DK Eyewitness travel guide Norway was a helpful addition for my recent travels.
With wonderful pictures, clear text, and helpful suggestions for all aspects of travel, this guide was a useful companion.
They are compact and portable (just the thing when traveling) and are easy to reference just about anything.

September 21, 2016Yes, going through travel guides like crazy. I like this book series for the awesome photos and own a few just for that but probably wouldn't seriously use them for planning a trip. Go for Lonely Planet, a recent copy of Lonely Planet, for your destination. Or a Rick Steve's book.
