Jenna never expected to be saved from a messed up situation with her ‘now ex’, by one of the hottest strangers she’s ever seen. Barely spending thirty minutes in his presence, he makes an impression. And he steals her phone number.
She’s determined not to develop feelings for a man who only did her a favor, but the more they text, the more she longs to know everything about him. But he’s cagey, always travelling and there’s no way falling for him could end in anything but more heartbreak…
He’s known the world over as Aidan Gass, lead singer of the rock band BreakNeck. His real name is Adam, and when he meets Jenna, for the first time in his life, a beautiful woman doesn’t recognize him, or ask for anything from him. The only way he can have her is via their texts, Adam can’t bring the chaos that is his life into hers. He definitely shouldn’t meet her in person…
The longer they chat, the more he knows it’s not just simple attraction. He can’t give up on what he wants.
Chris Reilly has loved reading from as early as she can remember and would spend hours letting her imagination run wild. She was born and raised in Liverpool, UK and still lives in her favorite city with her son and their two cats.
She spent the majority of her 20’s/30’s reading thrillers, but made the switch to romance when she picked up a book called ‘Dirty Letters’ and loved it and the authors so much, she went looking for more. Reading Indie Romance became her passion and she was inspired by these amazing authors and decided to put her writing hobby to the test.
A 'Happily Ever After' is always the goal for her characters, but there may be a cliffhanger or two, and definitely some angsty situations to work through, occasionally a little bit dark, but oh so delicious.
Truly, I have nothing bad to say about this. Adam and Jenna were so stupid cute together and this actually felt like a relationship that could ACTUALLY happen unlike most things I read.
And..this scratches a very specific itch that only one person would understand and thus ONTO BOOK TWO(Ily loulou)
Enjoyed this book, rockstar romances are my kryptonite, hehe. New author for me, the book was free on Amazon so I said why not, I'll give it a try. I liked the writing style, there were a few mistakes here and there, but it did not bother me.
Loved the fact that there was no 3rd act breakup, there was some drama at the 80% mark, but not related to their relationship.
I will continue the series, curious about all the bandmates stories.
* no cheating (between MCs), some miscommunication and misunderstanding here and there, but they work it out
Jenna meets Adam by chance in a crowed club, she was running away from her boyfriend. She’d just punched him in the face after finding him having sex with some woman. She’d been waiting at the bar for him and had gone looking for him. So she runs into Adam and he hides her away in the VIP room. She has no clue who Adam really is, all she knows is that he’s hot. He’s gorgeous and has beautiful blue eyes. He tricks her and gets her number and this starts a series of chat by text. It’s really cool, sort of like the email in Fifty Shades of Gray but more down to earth and no kink. These two have chemistry and when they got together I thought my Kindle would combust. Their story is a roller coaster ride but I liked that Jenna always trusted his word. Love the other guys in the band, can’t wait to read about Archer because he sounds like he has secrets. Anyway I already downloaded book two, so Nick is definitely next. This band has a great friendship, they’re funny, rambunctious and family. It’s a wonderful love story, I couldn’t put it down. The ending was scrumptious, giving it five stars and I highly recommend it.
If you like erotic romance, this is definitely the book for you. From the front cover, (and what a cover) to the last page and everything in between, this book has you wanting more. You are given a glimpse into the world of a famous rock band and how they live as you read about the ups and downs of a blossoming unexpected romance between the two main characters of the book, Adam who is the lead singer of Breakneck and Jenna who is an exec asst of a small literary company, but it’s not a smooth ride for the two of them. All of the characters come alive in your imagination as the author describes the events in perfect detail. You are left feeling like you know them personally. Fantastic book and looking forward to the next in the series. 5 star rating as I couldn’t put it down and it left me wanting more.
Totally loved this book- a really likeable strong female lead who you instantly warm to. With a little bit of sauce it’s essentially a good old fashioned romance and you find yourself rooting for the characters to have that happy ending. There are also some great side stories waiting to happen, bring it on……
This was a great read with the story starting out with Jenna and Adam text messaging each other as their relationship grows. The humor throughout with the band mates gave it an extra special touch. Oh, and I have to say I simply loved how the story ended. So, if you're looking for a good romantic love story, then this would be a great one to read. 😍
What a delightful surprise. This book popped up into my Kindle saying read me. That I did. The book was well written had a good p!It and I was thoroughly entertained. Definitely recommend this one!
I loved the chemistry between Adam and Jenna. They made a great couple. It had it’s intense moments but there were lots of light hearted and laugh out ones too. Couldn’t put it down, just a great book. Great character development and story.
Read to 37%. Writing is good and I like the characters. However, I’m not feeling a big connection between characters yet. It is mostly my mindset and not the book! Will try again later.
After reading a really raunchy rockstar series prior, this was quite tame.
I liked the heroine, though. Jenna had a good head on her shoulders. She was career minded and independent. She didn't have betraying body syndrome and never succumbed to being a wet puddle every time the H looked at her, so 5 stars for the h!
I liked how well these characters were developed. I thought Adam was alright for an H, though. He wasn't edgy or charismatic enough to be the great rock god that he supposedly was. Nothing in particular made him stand out from the bevy of book Hs out there in this trope. It is evident that it's a non-American writer writing about an all-American cast. It's not a bad thing but noticeable in word choice.
I liked it. It was better than average, although it did plod along. It’s not quite an actual 4 star rating for me but close.
I love the story and the romance. I didn't like the manager . She was guilty of knowing and aiding to try ruining his relationship with Jen. They should really find a better record deal. I hope this couple will be in the next books and see what they are doing.
Rating ignores my biggest issue with this book. At about 10 pages in, I’d already spotted so many errors, from poor punctuation (missing commas, question marks) to sentences that cut off halfway, incorrect spelling and conjugation, that I almost DNF’d… which would have been a shame. Examples: “He own’s the bar”, “passed” instead of “past”, and “text” instead of “texted” every time. And this problem continued throughout the book. There were also several times when dialogue appeared but was not attributed to a specific character (ie. “Bla bla,” Pete said), and I had to sometimes just take a guess as to who was ‘speaking’. Is decent proofreading that much of an ask?
Now, the good stuff!
From the start, the FMC was feisty, independent and refreshingly strong. And the relationship between the FMC and MMC was a slow burn, spicy one with a satisfying climax and epilogue.
Plot - there was more than the standard rockstar romance, and I enjoyed it.
Banter - this was fun, both between the MMC and FMC, and between the band members, who had a lovely ‘found family’ dynamic. I loved how the guys were fully developed characters, their individuality clear and each getting a chance to shine. Other supporting characters were also given time in the spotlight.
Despite ALL the proofreading issues, I will be looking forward to the next book in this series.
I adored this book. I could not put it down! Every spare minute I had I was reading it! This book was beautiful, spicy, raw, heartbreaking, heartwarming, perfect 😍 I loved Jenna! She was strong, confident, but also a little insecure and I loved how this was portrayed and thought her feelings were relatable to any relationship. And as for Adam....wow....what a beautiful man inside and out (yes I know he's fictional 🙄) It's easy to forget that celebrities are just normal people people and I think the way this book was written demonstrated this perfectly. Adam has a a history of being used and has a but if a bad boy reputation with women but all he wants is to be loved for him and not his status. I was championing for their relationship from the minute they met!! I loved their story and how their relationship developed from that initial meeting.
As much as this story is about a beautiful developing relationship, we can't forget the DV that is happening to another character. Although I think it's pretty clear throughout the book what's happening it was still a massive twist I didn't see coming and I may have had a few tears in my eyes but I think it was written and handled so well and tastefully. It is only a small section of the book but as always please read the trigger warnings. I highly highly highly recommend this book!!
I absolutely love this story. The hidden identity element is very much a necessity for Adam to find a woman who loves him for him, instead of for the status of his alter ego Aidan Gass. As the lead singer of one of the biggest rockstar bands on the planet, women have always tried to use him. Meeting Jenna, as Adam, the person he was pre-fame, is exactly what his life needs.
Jenna is a fighter, in every sense; in spirit and the gym and that's why she stands out to him; she is unique. She doesn't just endear herself to Adam but to his band mates too. This story is about more than just a couple, it's about friendships and navigating relationships that are complex and fraught with obstacles. But it's also a story about hope and that element of fate that drives people together. When you know, you know.
Chris's writing is smooth and the story flows, twisting in ways you wouldn't expect. I loved the integration of the characters within the overall setting and the way the characters grow with and defend each other. It shows realism as well as fantasy and they blend together in a way that is captivating. Chris shows incredible promise as a writer and I look forward to seeing more from her in the future.
The grammar is horrendous. It’s written like a British author tried to write about Americans. The spelling of a lot of words are either wrong or not the American version of the word and the use of Cos instead of because is just stupid. I was able to look past that and the story is ok up until the end and then it tanks. It seems like after the incident with Meg and her ex (which could have been left out all together), the author rushed the ending of the story. So that was disappointing. There are two epilogues but the author could’ve just took the time to wrap all the plot points up properly instead.
Then there was the characters. The MMC is perfect… too perfect and his attraction is basically instaluv. I get why she caught his eye, but I didn’t understand why he pursued her after that. The FMC seemed like she was looking for a reason to run even tho she was inexplicably attracted to him passed there initial meeting. This really irked me.
Overall it wasn’t a bad read, the book could have used a lot of editing and reconfiguring.
Love me a good rockstar romance and was really excited at the premise. It started out great but I quickly got bored and started skimming through bits. DNF at 58%.
Pros: The dirty talk was on point during the phone sex scene. The texting exchanges were good and showed depth of character interest beyond the physical, with just enough flirting in there to make it fun.
Cons: Felt less like a rockstar romance and more like a “famous person” romance. The rockstar elements just didn’t really shine through. The spicy scenes didn’t spice for me (except for the phone scene) and I really hated how much of a tease Jenna became. It also ended up sounding like Adam felt as though he was owed sex, which rubbed me the wrong way. Aside from that, some of the writing felt disjointed, like the author was listing off a checklist of activities the characters were doing rather than immersing me in the story.
WOW. I already read Chris' other books and loved them, I knew I would love this one too, but I didn't expect THAT 😱 It's not just the rollercoaster of things that happen, it's also so much emotion. I think we all dreamed about having a relationship with a celebrity. But dreaming of it and having it are two different things. And when it comes to all the press and stuff, no, I really stay with my boring life where nobody knows me 😎 It wasn't that Jenna was dreaming about any of that. She didn't even know Adam 🙈 Adam is so wonderful. Sure, he is a rockstar. He has an image. But he is so much more. He is sensitive and cares for the people he loves. Not just his family, but also his band (who is family too).
I'm excited to read all the other band members soon. And a few other side characters 🤩, especially Megan. I feel so sorry for what happened to her 😭
I’ve been searching for a similar book for months now and stumbled across this one on Amazon. It was such a fun read that i finished it in a few hours!
Loved the characters, especially Jordan who had me in stitches with his antics everytime! The storyline was great too and was well-rounded, covering a number of topics.
It was such a breath of fresh air with how the FMC was a total badass (not giving any spoilers) and i also loved how the book had some very relatable scenarios when the main characters finally meet and spend time together.
Not the typical whiny nonsense. Thank you!!!
All-in-all - a pleasant, fun read for all the feel-good vibes 💗
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the boys in Break Neck and thought this was a great introductory book to a new series. I liked that Jenna was a strong fmc, and while she had insecurities regarding her relationship with Adam, it made her more real. Adam for his part was not the typical man-whore lead singer, and acted his age. This story had me thinking about what was going to happen in the next chapter long after I put the book away for the day.
I took off one star because I wanted more of a wrap up with Erica, and I thought there was too much information given about the rest of the band in the future given in the epilogues....almost makes me not want to read the rest of the series...but I will because I am not ready to leave these characters just yet.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A different take on the rockstar romance, lots of entertaining bits and pieces, although the first half of the book was very slow paced and felt it needed to wind itself up to go, go, go!
I did like that the expected 'run, I can't cope' blip didn't happen, Jenna had the golden gloves and the golden balls, fair play to her - although the scene with Megan was frighteningly heartstopping!
The other characters in the band seemed to flesh out better towards the end of the book - dropping Jordan in a relationship without explanation raised my eyebrows a tad, but not sure if it's enough for me to want to continue with the series as he doesn't seem to have a book?
I often wonder at the number of five star reviews when I read a book that is so poorly written that a two star review is generous. Whose work are people comparing this author’s with? Certainly not anyone who can form a complete and comprehensive sentence. This entire book is rife with spelling and grammatical errors, continuity issues and a complete lack of knowledge of the subject matter. The world building is non existent, the characters are one dimensional and the dialogue is just plain pathetic. The author definitely needs to find a good editor. Stat.
