There are just times when you can not give an even remotely unbiased review.

I've reviewed books of people I know on this site. They get five stars. Thems is the rules. It's simply a matter of being supportive.

But giving a review of this book presents a challenge since I've known the man who wrote it since high school. I'm so far from unbiased it's beyond the horizon line.

So I'll give an illustrative anecdote instead:

The way I parted ways with my parents and their home was not a clean and orderly affair. After dropping out of community college I was no longer meeting the requirements of the household, which was to either be working and going to school or working 40 hours a week full time.

I came home from a friend's house one night soon after, put my key in the lock for the front door, and couldn't get it to turn. A shiny new deadbolt was looking back at me. A good minute after ringing the doorbell my step dad simply opened the door and stepped aside, not saying a word.

The next morning I woke up to a pounding at my bedroom door. Without waiting for a response, my step dad entered.

"Get up, get dressed," he said.

"Why?"

"You're not working 40 hours. Today you work for me. I took the day off to do it."

After I had haphazardly thrown on a teeshirt and jeans, he began ordering me to do chores throughout the house, watching me through the entirety of the activity like he was overseeing a chain gang. All the doors had double-sided deadbolts, all locked, so without his permission, I couldn't even angrily storm off.

Eventually I was ordered to break down boxes and move them all to the garbage bins in the garage. The solid garage door would need to be unlocked. After the second load I realized a couple things:

The door had to be kept closed while I was in the garage. In a household of cats its not even questioned.

And the sidedoor hadn't received the lock upgrade.

I walked out the sidedoor, across the driveway, and just kept going.

The first place I went from there, almost without thinking, was Bob Tipton's house. I showed up asking for advice because I had absolutely no clue what I was supposed to do next.

His book is about dealing with problematic situations, and the parable in the story quite specifically handles the process when applied to a crisis situation. The man has a way of working through a problem that avoids a sense of judgment and doesn't add to the panic.

Bob's advice is well worth listening to. It's a rambling way to get to that simple point, but it's what came to mind.

The "myth" presented is interesting, though I think real world examples would be far more illuminating than the fictional scenario where everything works out perfectly and the individuals are the perfect people for each role.

But the second half, that describes the phases and steps is informative and certainly causes one to step back and review their organization and to see its problems, challenges and difficulties in and new and valuable light.

I loved this book so much I read it twice. There is so much to ponder, so much to learn. The first time I was amazed at how the author tied together quantum physics and spirituality to define an approach to making change. The second time I focused on applying the concepts to my life. Great read if your life includes change.

Tipton has brought together quantum physics, wisdom from ancient philosophy, spiritual practice and leadership theory to create four stages of innovative change - Get Ready, Incubate, Aha!, and Make it Real.

He uses a fable of a non-profit in Loveland, CO that needs to change to survive. I liked it, and it aligns with what I've learned from Gap International, plus other readings.
