I don't really need to "go on" a diet but I read the books to stay motivated to eat well and mind my portions. I like the concept of the New Sonoma Diet. I don't always think phases are that helpful but this one makes sense in curbing "addictions" to refined sugars and grains first. I like the recipes quite a lot and look forward to playing with those. Some of her information is controversial but the overall message is good. I've read a lot of diet and nutrition books and this is up among the more sensible. The meal plans are a great idea for people needing a jumping off point. I'm a calorie counter so the way food is portioned here wouldn't work for me but YMMV. Most people hate counting calories. They'll like this model.

Another title listed as one of the best diet/fitness books available, this has a definite California feel to it, emphasizing fresh food. Biggest somewhat unique theme is its emphasis on outlining your (small) plate into portions with veggies taking up the lion's share. Also emphasizes eating mindfully, in a nice environment.

This is an updated version of the original Sonoma Diet. Do not be fooled by the word diet; this is no crash or fad weight loss program. If you need to lose weight, it gives you the principles of healthy foods to eat and portion control. Even if you don't need to lose weight, the recipes are easy and delicious~Sonoma county, Mediterranean cuisine. You can even drink some wine.

I feel much more informed about the food choices readily available. In the first two weeks, I lost ten pounds ... while eating some of the most delicious (and healthy) meals I've ever cooked. Our home smells like a restaurant nowadays!

This philosophy of using fresch foods sounds more practical. I found reading about the idea behind it more useful than the recipes itself.

Looks like a great way to eat. I wish they spelled what you can and cannot have better.

I need to dust this one back off & re-read it. To many sugary, sweet treats lately. Also, the word diet is a misnomer. This plan is highly doable, and I distinctly remember not feeling hungry.
