The Wilderness Garden

Rate this book
There's no need to water your garden! Or weed, prune, spray or dig it! In her decades of watching the bush and the animals around her, and of experimenting with hundreds of new growing strategies, the author has learnt to grow things by letting the plants - and nature - do most of the work for her. Here, she helps you learn to do that too.

Fantastic book! Jackie writes in a personable and fun way about how to grow and nurture a productive garden that provides food and flowers and joy. She is no stranger to the climate of Australia, and does the hard work of finding appropriate plants for you.. Some of which I'd never heard of. I learned so much from this book and am keen to see the results in a few months from all the seeds planted!!

What a wonderful book. Think gardening is hard work then read The Wilderness Garden. Jackie French is full of inspired wisdom on how to create a garden that both produces food and is in harmony with nature. I have my own copy of this book and refer to it whenever my own inspiration is getting low. There is always a new idea or a new plant to get me back into my gumboots and once more reconnecting with nature.

Still a good read. Only one complaint; she says very little about starting a site totally from scratch, particularly easy methods to improve the soil.
