A BOOK OF IDEAS ABOUT HOW ONE CAN SIMPLIFY ONE'S LIFE

Georgene Lockwood is also the author of books such as 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Organizing your Life,' 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beading Projects Illustrated,' 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Crafts With Kids,' etc.

She wrote in the Introduction to this 2000 book, "This book is for people who want to figure out what that 'something deeper' is and take steps toward simplifying their lives and living more lightly on the earth. It's for people who care about the land and the future of our planet, who want to conserve natural resources, and who want to add more meaning to everyday activities. It's for people who want to have more time for relationships and for doing things they truly enjoy... (it) is about starting where you are, thinking about your options, and then making choices that will lead to a more authentic, less complicated way of life."

She suggests "10 Simple Living Principles," such as: "Consume less... Put people before things... Live lightly on the land and close to the earth... Choose locally wherever possible... Insist on quality... Check in with yourself regularly," etc.

This book is a very useful tool for people who want to simplify their lives.

Good as far as it went. A lot of it didn't apply to me at all. Now if I can only find a simple living guide for someone near retirement with a mentally ill, physically disabled husband and an autistic teenager with frequent melt-downs, that would be something!
