I bought this book for my Kindle as it was a decent price and looked like it could be good.
Little did I know it would be the best book i have read in ages!!
I read mostly about vampires/werewolves/fairies etc, so it was time to buy something a little different, and I have to say I fell in love with this book.

Cassia Tiponi is your typical University student, short of cash, and looking for something to earn a little extra. So she offers herself as a guinea pig to the science department for medical testing. She gets paid $250 for each round and this helps pay for her tuition.

She meets a guy, Keanu, and is surprised he likes her because he is so good looking. Pleased that she has found herself a great guy, they sleep together... Little does she realise that all is not as it seems.

The testing she volunteered for has found something... Cassia doesn't have human DNA.

I will say no more, as I don't want to completely ruin the story for those of you who haven't read it.
All I will say is, if you don't own a copy... BUY ONE!

I read it from beginning to end in 1 day because I was absolutely hooked. I also broke my heart and sobbed like a newborn baby.
It has to be a good story to touch me enough to get me to cry. While the odd one or two may get the odd tear, this got a whole bucket full.

So in summary, go and buy your copy now, and make sure you have tissues!!

In brief: A college student - Cassia Tiponi - needs money for school fees and agrees to a series of tests for the science department for cash.

So far, so interesting - I thought!

But then.... The blood test reveals that she doesn’t have human DNA, which leads to a whole new level of ridiculous.

Then she experiences horrendous experiences while being imprisoned by government officials (surveillance camera's - hello?) who want to keep her to experiment on or something.

She escapes of course, with the help of her love interest, of course, and is then hunted by the government, of course. She must discover who and what she is during this journey (because its all news to her) which involves a ridiculous assault on intelligent thought.

The title of the book becomes a joke, too, in ongoing revelations of enormous plot holes. To explain would ‘spoil’ this reading experience and that’s not fair for those who could genuinely read and enjoy it. Many have - look at the reviews!

In all, it cost me nearly nothing and it was basically a silly jaunt with a little romance and paper-thin plotline.

Read it on a beach with a hangover – it won’t stretch you and may provide you with occasional unintended giggles – especially toward the end when you realise how ridiculous this is.

Wow.. I have read Inhuman last week and it still lingers with me. It is the kind of story that stays with you long after you have finished reading the book and put it back on the shelf. It is hard to find the words and do justice to the way Inhuman made me feel. Because isn't the ultimate goal of reading: to make us feel someway? Be it excitement, trepidation, thrill or joy, we read to experience these emotions. And Inhuman is certainly one novel which will take you on an extraordinary ride of emotional rollercoaster.

Inhuman is an emotionally unsettling, deep and moving novel. Danielle Lee's writing is exquisite. Through her narrator Cassia, the story flows freely and naturally, feeling more like a memoir with Cassia's honest and unguarded voice.

Cassia, Keanu and the other supporting characters are all interesting, well developed, flesh and blood characters. Cassia is a very sympathetic and reliable character the reader immediately identifies with her as she is such a typical, ordinary young girl. Her reactions and emotions are exactly as one would react were they in her shoes, and that is why the reader trusts Cassia's and her narration.

Though Inhuman is not a long novel, it is such a condensed, deep story that it packs more emotions and will elicit more reactions than most longer novels do.

The subtle philosophical/spiritual message is both unsettling and uplifting. Despite the gloomy and sad events in Inhuman, there is a beacon of hope that shines through and that elevates the novel from the dark despair it could fall down into.

Verdict: An extraordinary read that will definitely provoke some thoughts and reflections. Beware though that it is not an easy read, there are scenes/mentions of rape, torture, mental and emotional abuse. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is only becase it is an emotionally draining story and can't be re-read too often.

While some things were obvious in the book as to how it was going to end, I enjoyed reading it. The idea was a new one. I was hoping that there was going to be a twist at the end but it didn't happen. I did have one thought though, where were the security cameras in the hall way. I guess that it is possible that they didn't want to video tape themselves doing anything wrong. I still enjoyed reading it and was sad at the end. This is a book that I will read once and enjoy but I don't think that I would read again, unless there comes a part two. I did feel for Cassia at how she was being treated.

This story felt a little short. The plot line begins 20 years prior and doesn't give you much to go on. This may be with purpose as the protagonist isn't aware of her history. I felt some of the details of childhood could have been included earlier. This felt like a first story for the author. Maybe she didn't fully flesh out the characters. It feels like a few chapters went missing. I came away with the impression that it was over edited. Over all there was enough to keep me going but I had to use my own imagination to fill in a lot of gaps.

I enjoyed the writing somewhat. But I hated the fact that before ever chapter end the author finished with "I did not expect what happened next..." kinda thing.. So annoying!

I liked that the characters actually pee in this one. That's rare

I went back and forth on what I thought of this story until I realized that I was struggling with two different aspects of the book: Originality (creativity) and Mechanics (grammar, style, technique, etc.). The originality of the idea of this story is a solid 4 stars, maybe even a 4.5. On the other hand, the Mechanics of this story is barely worthy of 2 stars. I chose the lesser score because the mechanics, in the end, help to decide whether or not a book is readable. As much as I'd like to give the author props for her originality, I finished this book too soon, and had too many questions left unanswered because the way in which the ideas were delivered wasn't on par with the originality of the idea.

So what is the idea? A young Native American woman is undergoing testing to help her raise money for college. One of the tests is a DNA test, unbeknownst to our heroine, and results in her being abducted by a super secret, government (sort of) agency because....wait for it... she has inhuman DNA!!! She then must find a way to escape from her captors and find out the truth about herself before her time runs out.

So, our heroine (who looks human, has human emotions, and no supernatural abilities), is super naive to the realities of the world because she was raised on the reservation, but is not human. And she never suspected, in spite of the fact that she has a perfect star in the middle of her chest. (For those of you who have never seen the show Ancient Aliens, there is a belief amongst certain tribes that there are indeed aliens out there, but they are often referred to as Star People...wonder if this is where the author, got the idea.)

Sounds very interesting. Add that the author added a potentially steamy love story in the mix, and we should have a major hit! Unfortunately, it falls flat.

Let's begin with our characters: Cassia, the so very naive NA woman; Amy, the best friend who is going through law school, but manages to get killed in spite of the fact that she's a super-conspiracy theorist; Keanu (yes, like the actor), the handsome love interest who teeters on the line of lover and enemy; Agent Myers, a decidedly vile little man who could be a great threat if there were more of him; and the grandmother, Cassia's foster grandma who knows the secrets of Cassia's birth (because she was the midwife), but won't tell her until the last 10 pages or so.

Cassia is so naive, she borders on stupid sometimes. Emotionally, she still seems very young, almost teenaged, as she falls head over heels in love with Keanu after a single "chance" encounter on campus and one date the following day. She falls so in love with him, she sleeps with him (sans protection) after having known him for maybe 48 hours. If she knew him longer, I was unaware of it because there was very little mention of time, which in my opinion is just one of many problems with the writing style.

The seasons were changing as we enter Cassia's story (ignoring the opening scene of her birth 20 years prior), and the author describes the coldness in the air to let us know we're getting into winter, but other than Cassia's birthday (later, on Valentine's Day), I don't really remember any mention of dates or months or time. Now, I have never been a big believer in time, but in this case, it was one of those distractingly bad choices the author made, making this story difficult to follow.

Although, I'm not sure that is a true statement. This was not a difficult read, but I did find myself trying to go back to estimate how long certain things were taking. How long was she trapped, and tortured, and raped while in the secret facility? The timeline gets further muddled after Cassia becomes pregnant and it becomes apparent that Cassia's condition is maturing faster than normal. She could have been pregnant for a month, or 4, or 8, or God only knows how long.

And about the baby daddy... Is it the hot love interest, Keanu, who fell so in love with her, even though he was working for the enemy? Or is it the sickeningly vile Agent Myers who is an angry ball of nastiness? She was with Keanu only the once (a scene that if given a few more details would have been perfect in a romance novel) before she was taken and then Myers raped her nightly until they find out she's pregnant. Once they know she's pregnant, he quits, but Keanu comes back and makes love to her again...

Wait, what? He works for the enemy, lied to her from the very beginning, works for the people who let Myers rape her nightly, (let me emphasize that) she's been raped NIGHTLY, and yet he comes back and says some sweet words, strips her down, and she just lets him into her? By this point, I'm beginning to realize she CAN'T be human, because I don't think any woman would let him back into her life at all, let alone let him have sex with her, after all that. Nevermind the fact she's probably sore and emotional because of the pregnancy, but she's been broken down physically, mentally, and emotionally by Myers, yet she's all in love with Keanu again after a matter of moments?

By this point, if it wasn't for the fact that I really wanted to know if she was an alien, I think I would've put the book down. The rest is more of the same: flat characters, naive mistakes, very quick plot-line that has no sense of time and just seems to meander along til we get close to the finish line. There was a huge sense of urgency around them, but our fleeing lovebirds seem not to notice as she thinks about how she's going to tell him she's been raped repeatedly, and also thinks about how she has to survive for the baby inside of her, and how much she loves this guy she barely knows.

I was fairly certain how it would end, but I was still hoping for a little more information about where she came from. While I was given more info about her, it was very anti-climatic and not fully developed.

As I've been writing this review, I've been slowly developing my thoughts on this book, and I think I can finally put my finger on what it is that bothered me most: This book reads like a romance novel, but there is no romance! The characters have the emotional depth of romance characters, but we don't get the graphic, steamy love scenes. We're always just a little short of the payoff of a romance novel.

So we have a romance novel that's been marketed like a supernatural mystery, and there is very little mystery, not quite enough romance, and very, very little supernatural anything. It's almost as if the supernatural qualities of this book were an after thought. The author made her point about love conquering all, and then she realized, "oh wait, what about all the supernatural qualities this character should encompass? Hmmm, let me write it in as an epiphany; that should fix it."

Overall, it was a fun, quick read, and for an almost free book, I would probably still recommend it... as long as you could get it for less than $5.

Cassia is an orphan raised by her adoptive grandmother on a Hopi Indian tribe reservation in Arizona. Wanting to make a new life for herself she left for college to Washington D.C. Two years before. The problem, money is tight to make tuition so she volunteers to be the medical students guinea pig for the cash she needs. Having been unusually healthy her whole life, all of these tests are new to her. During the course of her daily tests she meets an amazingly Handsome man who takes her out a couple times. He is the first guy she has ever dated and it makes her feel she is finally fitting into her new life.

Everything does not go as she expected though when the results of her blood tests come back and they prove she has DNA that is not remotely human. Her life suddenly becomes a nightmare and she desperately seeks to find out who she really is. This isn't easy, though, as the government test facility she is now confined to will do anything to keep her from getting away. Escape becomes a matter of life and death. Unexpected help will come, but will they succeed?

This story is rather moving. I wouldn't consider it a traditional love story. That isn't the focus of the book, but it is a part of it. The real plot is Cassia trying to find out who she is, why she is different, and what that means to her future. The end is not an HEA but I wouldn't call it unsatisfying because the author did close up all the loose ends. She also gave hope for a brighter tomorrow that gives the reader closure.

If you are interested in this book as a romance, it will probably not satisfy you. There is a love story there, but it is limited and the love scenes are brief and less descriptive. If you want a story with a new concept, a bit of mystery, and a love story on the side, all packed with emotional turmoil, this is a great book. I don't regret buying it, especially not for the price. It took me in a whole new direction than anything I've read before.

Cassia Tiponi is a twenty-year old student who needs to make some extra money to cover her tuition fees. She volunteers as a guinea pig and is subjected to a series of medical tests. She doesn’t like it a lot, but she goes back several times as the pay is quite good.

One day, when she goes back, she is questioned and locked in a room as it turns out she has non-human DNA. As she was abandoned at birth she has no idea what her background is but she’s being kept locked up as a criminal.

Unpleasant things happen to her and some good things too. Like the strong and handsome Keanu! Eventually Cassia learns more about her birth family.

What I thought:

I read this book in e-book format, which is not my favorite format, as I don’t own an e-reader. Still, on a relaxing Sunday afternoon with my laptop on the sofa, this was a compelling and easy book to read.

The book was a quick and easy read (ideal for a read-a-thon!). The writing was fluent but not very intricate. There was only the one storyline and chapters often ended with a bit of a weak “cliffhanger”, which was totally unnecessary. For instance “The door opened. The person entering the room was not who she had expected”. And then in the next chapter it turns out to be a minor character, nothing important.

I was intrigued by the premise and wanted to keep reading this book. Normally, I abandon e-books quite easily if they don’t keep my attention, but with this book I was quite happy to keep reading.

The story was a little unlikely sometimes. For instance, why did “they” wait for her to come back to the medical institute rather than go to her home and take her away?

I felt like this book could be the first of a series as the ending had potential for a further story.

This book was a bit odd for me, but was still a quick, fairly enjoyable read.

Cassia is an orphan, raised by her adopted grandmother and is now a student at university. To make ends meet, she volunteers for medical trials in order to raise some much needed cash, only for the doctors to find out she is not normal. Her DNA, something so "small and trivial" (as stated in the book a few times), doesn't match that of human DNA, so she is whisked away by the Men In Black (aka the Majestic 12) for a series of tests. Whilst being kept prisoner she is subjected to the most humiliating of punishments and finds out that the man she has just met and slept with is one of the Men in Black.

After a few weeks of inhuman treatment, she finds out that she is pregnant and decides to try to escape in order to prevent the government agency from performing the same trials on her baby. With the help of Keanu, the man she slept with, they go on the run and eventually end up back at her grandmother's reserve, where she finds out who and what she is.

As a cheapy book from Amazon, the small typos didn't bother me particularly and I didn't find the mini cliffhangers a problem either, probably because I was reading through the book so quickly anyway. I can see the potential in this author and I would love to read a sequel about the characters who appear at the end.

The only thing I do have a problem with is Cassia's feelings for Keanu. After his betrayal, I was very shocked at how she still felt towards him, wanted him to be the father of her baby (no guarantees there) and regularly wanted to jump into bed with him. I certainly wouldn't have done, although maybe she felt she owed him after he promised to help her out of the compound.

I got this as a free e-book from itunes and i thought i would give it a try as it sounds interesting. I found i actually enjoyed reading this story. It was fast paced and you can't help but feel for the main character as she is put into this crazy situation she can't see a way out of.

Cassie is a 20 year old student who is stuggling with her tuition fees so when the opportunity arises for her to volunteer as a test subject for a few weeks to earn decent cash she thinks that it is a fairly easy way to make her tuition money. Only one thing though. She was adopted as a child and knows nothing of her past and one day when she goes in for testing she is held captive and questioned as it turns out she doesn't have human DNA.

Cassie must find a way to escape this government run building and find out the answers to all the questions now swimming around in her head. Who was she? What was she? Where did she come from? Why did her family abandon her?

This story is a fairly short one and that is why i only gave it the 3 stars. Had it been a longer book with more content i would have given it more. Really is worth a read.

My first ever kindle read! And yes it was free, but it was a good buy.

The main character, Cassia, is attending university and to pay for her tuition fees, she offers herself up to the hospital as a guinea pig in order to get paid. After having blood tests and all sorts, her blood tests results show that she is not "human". After going back to hospital again, every is acting strangely around her until she is kidnapped buy the government.
From here to story is basically what the government do to her and how she escapes the confinement in which she is kept.

For the first time in a long time, i have actually spent a while reading a book and thoroughly enjoying it. I sat there for a while, reading, before i realized it was 3am! And i never stay up past 12! Lets just say, i was very tired at college that day!
The ending i could see coming but was still shocked to see it coming.

But yeah, it was a brilliant book, and i can't wait to read the next!

My Review: I liked the story line of the book. I liked the characters. There were minor errors where a word was missing in a sentence but it's easily fixable to just add a word while you're reading. I wasn't thrilled of the ending because I don't feel as if the story wrapped up nicely, just kind of left you hanging. But for a free ebook, it was good. I would recommend it to others just to see their thoughts on it.

Inhuman captured me from the first chapter.

Cassia is just a normal girl going to college doing what she can to pay for school, which means being a temporary guinea pig for some medical students. She goes in for the last time only to be taken away and locked up in a secret government facility where, because she doesn't have human DNA, she's treated like a specimen to be examined, cut, poked at and worse....

In Inhuman Cassia goes through a very difficult and emotional journey to learn the truth of who she is. And even though the story left me feeling a little worried for the future you also feel hope for the future too.

There were a few interesting ideas in the story, but it was overall rather poorly developed. The writing, while not actually truly bad, didn't draw me in and I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters who were pretty much all walking and talking (in not particularly convincing dialogue, I might add) clichés. Cassia's emotions and thoughts were not very believable and quite erratic throughout the story which had a bunch of holes in it. (e.g. security cameras, anyone?)
And... "the Majestic 12"? Seriously?
All in all it was somewhat entertaining despite (or maybe because of) all the flaws and a quick read. I have read worse books in my life - but not many.

The plot and premise of this book have a lot of potential, but the writing is just so horrible that I couldn't force myself to finish it. I got about half way through and just couldn't take it any more. I really did want to know what happened to Cassia and her hunky man in black, so I decided maybe I could just skim the chapters to find out what happens. Even skimming through 5 chapters, I finally decided I just didn't care enough. The story is full of over reactions, strong character attachments that have no backing, horrible cliches and just plain bad writing. I got it as a free ebook and am glad that I didn't pay for it.

I started this book a few months ago and then stopped. I picked it up again a few days ago, and I loved it!!

This is a well written story that follows the story of Cassia. Life is going great....until she meets Keanu that is...!!

From then on, her life spirals out of control and in a direction she couldn't possibly have dreamed!!

The author gives great detail in to the characters personalities, surroundings as well as the plot. I was completely immersed in a world torn upside down and was constantly on the edge of my seat as the story progressed.

If you're someone who loves government conspiracies, as well as slight paranormal twist, then this book is definitely for you!!

I had this book on my kindle for ages and hadn't been inspired to read it because the cover and title I thought was off putting. how very wrong I was. hooked from beginning to end. how refreshing to read something supernatural without vampires and werewolves. so if you are looking for something slightly different don't delay read this cause it was really good. there are a lot of negative reviews for this book but I guess it's a kind of love it or hate it book but I loved it! I guess you should never judge a book by its cover!! a x

I hated this book. I was hooked the moment that I started this book and disgusted the moment that I found out her lover was an agent and worse a %$#@! for still liking her and not getting her out of that hell hole. But I will say I lost all hope for this book and she was raped and I skipped ahead and found out she spend most of the book being tortured and raped. I am honestly disgusted by this book. Not because she is raped or tortured but because she stay a victim instead of overcoming her torments and becoming the strong heroine I thought she was to become.

I didn't like this book. It seems pretty promising in the beginning, but things just didn't come off as real. She jumped too soon and then the plot went in a downward spiral quickly after she was abducted. The only thing that made me finish the book was because I was wondering what would happen to her.

This is a very quick read, and the story is definitely interesting. My main complaint is that there is little variety in sentence structure and it quickly became jarring; the story would have benefited from a rewrite. Nonetheless, I still had trouble putting the book down. Great premise, engaging characters, it just felt too much like a first draft.
