Second grader Jacob worries that the real live author visiting his classroom will discover that he has no imagination and that Maria, the little girl visiting from Puerto Rico, will find out that he likes her. Original.
Chose this book as a easy chapter book read. Main idea is about friendship and being okay with who you are. Also, good book on friends coming together to make another friend happy.
Another book we read in second grade, but I don't remember this one as much as I do the other books we read. But the more I think about it, the more I remember how it was so sickeningly sweet. It was so sweet it made my teeth hurt. It was EXTREMELY cheesey and cliché; a little boy fishing with his father, hoping the girl he likes won't find out she does... I suppose if you teach second grade, read it aloud, but otherwise, never even give this book a second glance.
This was a cute book. At first, I was a little irritated with the kids making fun of Jacob, until I realized it was a rouse not to tip him off. Wonderful!
