Read in preparation for a trip to Scotland. Nice overview. Chapter 1 on Geology and Climate requires familiarity with Scottish place names. Nine chapters on different ecosystems and two chapters on specific species (deer and seals). Each ecosystem chapter provides an overview of the extent of the system, a bit on the processes that create it, and a list of species that reside there with notes on the species natural history. A familiarity with Latin names of species will help the reader. The book is not heavy on ecosystem processes but does touch on them. The subject matter is ripe for an update, as I'm sure much has changed.
